This all season, well furnsihed waterfront, country cottage faces westward over Weller's Bay to tree covered sand dunes. The house is nestled amongst majestic mature trees and is located just off the oldest road in Ontario. A large wooded area across the road from the house complete with marshy inlets and historic 19th century relics is excellent for walking, birdwatching, fishing, biking, paint-balling or birdwatching. There is a major 40km bike trail by the cottage which goes to Picton. Located in scenic Ameliasburg township, in northern Prince Edward County, Ontario. The fully furnished cottage is spacious and cozy. The lakefront on the property is ideal for lounging and ducks and swans and also has the right atmosphere for a girls weekend, small corporate retreat, a wedding event or a romantic getaway.
The 2,000 square foot bungalow has three generous bedrooms and two full bathrooms, including an ensuite. There is a large 20 by 24 foot living room with cathedral ceiling and large stone fireplace, a six person dining room, a fully equipped eat-in kitchen with dishwasher, stove with oven and microwave. The house has central air conditioning. There is a covered deck and a large open deck off the living room, complete with a four person hot tub. A heated out building near the deck is a games room, complete with a pool table, table tennis, foos-ball and a dart board. The house comes complete with use of a gas barbeque, two firepits, fishing rods, bad-mitton set, sports balls, lawn chairs and bicycles. Some firewood is provided. There is a canoe provided.
Relax and listen to the rustling leaves as the warm wind gently blows over your body. Sip a cocktail at the water's edge as the sun slowly sets over the water and dunes. Later, have a campfire in the firepit, bask in the hot tub, listen to the stereo, watch a movie, sing karaoke or play pool.
Play family games and sports on the lush grassed area on the property and later cool down with a swim in the shallow sand bottom lake waters.
This home is completely self sufficient with linens, bedding and supplies provided. All you have to do is just bring your bathing suits and camera.
In the morning, the first thing you will notice is the singing of the birds. In August, sit in the hot tub and watch stars fall from the milky way. In fall and winter, build a warm fire in the stone fireplace and curl up with a good book and a glass of local wine. Great in winter too - cozy, skiing and snowboarding nearby.

Lance Alexander purchased this cottage in 2006
Prince Edward County is unique. It has everything. It has beaches, golf courses, wineries, birdwatching, hiking, lots and lots of history and heritage (the cottage is located just off the oldest road in Ontario and there was a fort from the war of 1812 just around the corner from my cottage), lots of cool stores and funky restaurants and the cottage itself is very homey and relaxing. A couple of interesting facts about the County:
- it has 800 kilometres of scenic coastline
- Sandbanks Provincial Parks is home to the world's largest freshwater sand dunes
- Prince edward County is an an emerging epi-centre for new world wines with over 20 wineries and more coming
- it has lots of heritage and was home to United Empire Loyalists and Sir John A Macdonald
- Presquile Provincial Park near the cottage is one of North America premier birdwatching sites, especially waterfowl.
- Battawa ski hill which is neaby was founded by the Batta family who created a global empire making shoes. Battawa has a reputation as a small but very good place to ski and snowboard.
You are close to many things and it is easy to get to from the 401. You will not be bored at my cottage.
Thanks for the great cottage experience! We loved our stay here! What a beautiful area! Thanks
This cozy cottage provided a wonderful home base for me, my boyfriend and our parents for an amazing week long getaway to visit Prince Edward County and all its many diversions. There is no shortage of things to do and see in PE County, and nothing was more than a 40 minute drive away. The cottage was spacious, had everything we needed and well stocked in the kitchen for appliances, utensils, pots/pans and cookingware. The waterfront is one of my favourite features, as because of the heat, there was that lovely breeze off the lake that we could depend on to keep us cool! We used the air conditioning at night to make for comfortable sleeping. The games room was really cool and in rainy weather we would have made more use out of it, we used the canoe which was great. The cottage is on a bay on Lake Ontario so to cross the bay in the canoe was really pleasant. There is a nice size deck with a bbq which me made almost all our meals on. All in all, everyone enjoyed themselves. We will be talking about this vacation for many years to come!
Before I begin, I want to explain why this review is later than what I would have liked. The individual who organized this event was waiting on the deposit to be returned as I didn't want this review to be used as a reason not to provide a deposit. I'm not saying this has happened but you never want to risk it.
The cottage was very cute and has a lot of potential, however it was clear after being in the cottage that it wasn't taken care of like the pictures above indicate. The backyard was not mowed and the grass was very long. The only part of the yard that was moved was a strip to go to the dock. There were bushes (or weeds, hard to tell) that were overgrown surrounding the back of the house as well as the deck. These bushes/weeds were also surrounding the games room which none of us knew was a games room, to be honest it looked like a run down shed. It was brought to our attention by the individual who was in contact with Mr. Alexander that we would also have to bring our own firewood to the cottage if we want a bonfire. This seemed very odd to us as a group since you would expect that these items would be included, not only that but there are by-laws that require you to use firewood from the area and not outside areas. Since firewood isn't expensive at all, I personally thought it was ridiculous that we would have to bring our own instead of it being included with the rental.
The hot tub never warmed up, there was no hot water for the showers and the vacuums did not work very well when we were cleaning the house Sunday morning. We only stayed for the weekend so we didn't mention anything about these issues as they wouldn't be fixed by the time we were leaving. If we had a week stay at this cottage these matters would have been brought up. Who ever stayed in the rental before us left food in the fridge as well as alcohol in the freezer which had become stuck to the freezer shelf.
These issues may have been addressed since our stay, but I would advise any potential renters to see if they can do a walk through before renting to make sure these issues do not happen to them.
Completely run down, unmaintained, mildew everywhere and mushroom growing in the bath. Mouse droppings all over the kitchen every night. Lots was promised but almost everything was broken - boats broken (except canoe), Games room full of mould and broken ping pong/pool/etc ('games room' is a leaky shed with everything wet and mouldy). I can't believe how badly run down this place is - if it's still standing.
This was our second time staying at the Alexander cottage. We needed a place to stay to visit the cheese festival in Picton.
The cottage is very spacious. We were 3 couples and we're happy to have lots of space and 2 bathrooms. It is situated not far off of the 401 which makes it easy to get to.
It was nice to see the games room has been updated since our last visit with a new ping pong table and pool table. The canoe would of been great to use but we didn't have time.
It is in a gorgeous setting. We were able to sit by the bay and watch the sunset and have a camp fire both nights. The hot tub was a nice added bonus. The neighbours are really friendly too! I am happy to hear that a dock is being put in. That will make it much easier to swim. The lake was actually quite warm and it had a sandy bottom.
The cottage is complete with everything you need for a comfortable stay. This is our go to place when staying in PEC. Thanks!
We were a group of 6 women and really enjoyed our stay at the Alexander cottage. Spent most of the weekend cooking, so it was nice to have a fully equipped and spacious kitchen. The cottage is quite large, 2 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms and 2 decks with 2 bbqs (not that we needed both!)
Setting up was easy and we were allowed to check out late which was really nice. The clean up took more time than we planned so I can see why it would be difficult for people who had to check out at 11am because the dryer takes a long time to get the sheets and towels dry (just a tip - start those early).
The living room is large and spacious with really high ceilings. Having a separate dining area made for great shared meals.
The waterfront was not private (a couple of other properties share it) and it was more of a river so we didn't go out in the water, I don't think you should expect to swim in it but we made great use of the hot tub.
I found the value for money to be excellent. Lance was helpful when I had questions.
I stayed at this cottage over the family day long weekend with my girlfriend. The place was well kept and clean, fireplace was beautiful and cozy. We stayed in the winter and the hot tub was superb. The cottage itself had everything we needed with lots of space. The games room was fun but the pool table and foosball table are in need of repair. Overall we had a great time.
The owner was attentive and provided all key information.
