You enter the cottage by way of a deck surrounded with Rugosa rose hedges. The charmingly furnished living room opens on to a private back deck with view of the harbor. The kitchen is well equipped for any one cooking endeavor or you may choose to take a five minute stroll to one of the tempting waterside restaurants. A fireplace for possible chilly evenings completes the picture at this idyllic Maine vacation spot. The attractions of Acadia are only a few minutes drive away. Or you can leave your car and take the free Explorer bus directly to Bar Harbor!
We have been enjoying the Gables for 25 years and take great pleasure in meeting the folks who choose to make it their vacation home. Originally form Connecticut, we made the full time transition to Maine in 2012 and haven't looked back!
Eleanor Watts purchased this cottage in 1991
We spent 3 nights here and enjoyed every moment. It's very close to Southwest Harbor and just around the corner from the lighthouse and the Ship Harbor & Wonderland trails. Cadillac Mt and Jordan Pond are also just a short drive. The cottage was perfect for us and we highly recommend skipping the crowded tourist trap of Bar Harbor and stay on the quiet side and enjoy the nature of MDI.
We enjoyed our stay at this sweet cottage. It was so very relaxing and peaceful. The back deck was perfect for our evening meals, and provided a lovely glimpse of the ocean. We had everything we needed for a relaxing, enjoyable Acadia adventure. On the Quiet Side of the island, removed from the hustle and bustle, and still very convenient for all things Bar Harbor and Acadia. Our dog was quite content, too. Terrific hosts, great communications, they were there when we needed them, and unobtrusive the rest of the time. A sweet and comfortable place to stay. Many thanks to Eleanor and Sandy for hosting us!
What a great and cozy place. It was perfectly rustic while extremely clean. Our crazy days are over so we prefer a drama free, quiet in the evening, kinda place. Highly recommend it and Lily our 4 year old retriever would concur I'm sure. HSG4-
