Our Lake Superior Retreat was built in 2003. It is a fully furnished log home in Beaver Bay Minnesota. Situated on a fairly secluded wooded 4.1 acre lot with 254 feet of lake shore. Every room has a view of Lake Superior. You will find that the warmth and coziness of the hand-hewn log interior, the openness of the vaulted wooded ceiling, the Lake Superior field stone wood burning fireplaces and the casual elegance of hand-tied oriental rugs on hardwood and ceramic tile floors through-out the whole house, will offer you a place to relax and enjoy the peace and serenity that our home has to offer during any season. It is our pleasure to share our rustic yet very elegant home with you. There is nothing else like it on Lake Superior. You will leave feeling relaxed and refreshed. The main floor has a large foyer with slate flooring.
The great room has a natural fieldstone wood burning fireplace and french sliding doors leading to a deck which runs the length of the house over looking the lake. A dining room and fully equipped kitchen, and a mudroom off of the kitchen. On the top floor we have the master bedroom with large glass doors leading to a deck giving you a panoramic view of the lake and master bath with a jacuzzi, as well as the loft which over looks the great room below, where our children like to sleep on aerobeds. The walk-out lower level has ceramic tile through-out, a field stone wood burning fireplace, two bedrooms, a full bath and a laundry room. There are sliding french doors leading to the brick patio under the deck. We have ceiling fans in every room, and in floor heating. We think you will enjoy staying in our home so much that you won't want to leave.
Jeff and I bought the property in 1998 and built our log home sanctuary is 2002-2003. Jeff is a rheumatologist who gave up practice to start a medical device company in 1998. His business is doing very well but it requires a LOT of travel. Often he spends more time out of Minnesota than in Minnesota.
Our house was sitting empty because we couldn't get up there. The kids and I would go with Jeff on his travels because he was lonely for us and made his business travel more enjoyable.
An empty house has no soul, so I prefer to share it with other families to enjoy.
Dawn (me), currently works at Navab Brothers Oriental Rugs in St. Louis Park. I owned 2 oriental rug stores, one at International Market Square and one in Wayzata, but liquidated in 1996 when our twins were 2.
I like to manage the Beaver Bay house and clean it, getting it ready for each guest. On occasion, I am not able to get up there to take care of it, so my dear friends Greg and Sue help me out. They live in Silver Bay and know everybody in the area. They have been wonderful.
Dawn Felt purchased this house in 2002
We have always loved the feel of the North Shore. Hiking, camping, exploring, fishing on Lake Superior, Boundary Water canoe trips, etc. Jeff and I have been coming up to the North Shore since we were small children and when the opportunity to buy our lot came up, we grabbed it. We wanted our children to have the same wonderful experiences that we had as children.
This particular lot caught our eye because it is secluded, no one around us. Beautiful Lake shore, and beautiful views of the Lake. Plus we have City of Beaver Bay water and sewer. A huge benefit.
The location is perfect. Ideally located in Beaver Bay which is 50 miles north of Duluth, 40 miles south of Lutsen, 60 miles south of Grand Marais, plus 3 state parks within 10 miles of us, Gooseberry, Split Rock Lighthouse and Tettagouche. You can hike to the Superior Hiking Trail from our house.
Secluded, peaceful and serene
Beautiful spacious log home with Lake Superior stone fireplaces
I leave the grounds natural with beautiful wild flowers all growing season
Lake Shore and Beautiful Lake View
Far enough off of 61 that highway noise is almost non existent.
Large well equipped kitchen
The moment we walked into this home I felt welcomed, at peace, and ready to relax! This home is beautiful, you can tell Dawn takes pride in her home, it was immaculate!! The pictures on the site do not do this home justice at all, and the beach was so awesome! My mother in law and I love going north to look for sea glass, this beach was FULL of it, and I got to bring home a couple of gems! After running a very tough Grandma's Marathon, it felt so nice to come back to the home and soak in the tub, grill out, and enjoy time with my husband, and my mother who flew in from NY! I can tell you, none of us wanted to leave come Sunday! We will definitely be booking another stay next year!
This was by far our favorite place we have rented as a family, including Colorado and other states! The house is in the perfect location and is its own sanctuary!! The Pictures do not do justice to this place! We loved everything about it and Dawn was incredible to work and communicate with! The place is very clean, the cleanest we have been to! Which I love! We will only be renting her cabin when we make it up to the north shore from now on! Thank you for being so hospitable and sharing such a beautiful place! The path down to the lake and being able to walk out onto cove point was so much fun! Thank you!
Thank you so much Dawn for sharing your home with us for our August vacation. Everything was beyond our expectations and we will be back. The kids loved having room to explore and played air hockey for hours. The view from the deck is amazing! Thank you so much for everything!
Thank you Dawn for sharing this perfect home with us. Our family traveled from East and West coasts, joined our Northern Minn family (including our 93 year old mom) and spent the week so content with the beauty and comfort of the home - we only ventured out for groceries. (Not quite...we did visit some of our old haunts.) The beds were comfortable - bedrooms spacious - dining room accommodated our group meals with no one sitting on the others lap. Abundantly equipped...and did I mention gorgeous. To use my mom's phrase, Thank you, thank you, thank you.
This is a beautiful and amazing house with unbelievable picture perfect views of Lake Superior! We had 8 in our party, 5 adults and 3 children. The space was perfect for our stay. The kitchen and dining area are open and brought us all together for preparing and cooking meals. Great deck with plenty of space for everyone to hang out and take in the views. We were right in the middle of great hiking, quaint shopping, state parks, great food. We all really enjoyed our stay. Dawn was very nice to work with! Thank you for sharing your gorgeous home! Our family vacation was awesome!
This beautiful home was a great place for my family and I to celebrate my parent's 40th anniversary this past weekend - the location provided the opportunity to make quick trips to Split Rock Lighthouse, Temperence Falls, and just to explore the Beaver Bay and Silver Bay areas. The home itself has so many great touches (board games, puzzles, air hockey, books, and overall just a welcoming feel), which provided entertainment even in the rain! Dawn, the property owner, was amazing to work with - quick response to my booking request, clear property information and expectations, and just the right finishing touches within the home to make it a wonderful retreat spot. My family and I definitely plan to stay there again and hope to make it an annual event - everything was perfect (well except for the rain!). Thank you!
Beaver Bay is centrally located for all of the various activities you enjoy. Just 50 miles north of Duluth and 40 miles south of Lutsen. You can hike, bike, ski, fish, boat, golf, explore state parks, or just have a romantic getaway, sitting in front of a fire during the cooler months, or sitting on the deck listening to the waves crash on the shore on a warm summer night. The Superior Hiking Trail is right outside our front door. We like to hike all year round. The Beaver River and the Caribou River are personal favorites. 7 miles of the Gitchi Gami Trail are completed so far, bring your bikes or roller blades to enjoy this wonderful path. We have three gorgeous state parks just a few minutes away that offer trails of vast beauty. View the falls at Gooseberry Park, bring a picnic to enjoy after touring Split Rock Lighthouse, or hike along the Baptism River at Tettegouche.
