A wonderful stay in paradise!

We rented Pamela Popo for a week in St. Martin for our first trip to the island. I cannot begin to express how impressed we were with the property. Sylvie and Olivier were wonderful hosts, taking the time to show up everything that we would need for the week and made recommendations for beaches, restaurants, and activities during our stay. It was fun to lounge around at the pool with the resident cat when she chose to visit as well :-)

The villa is situated in a good location on the French side of the island, overlooking Isle Pinel. You will need a car to drive yourself to the many beaches and restaurants (as well as to one of several nearby grocery stores for provisions). If you aren't averse to a short but hilly walk, there are a handful of really good restaurants nearby (say hi to Momo at Le Ti Bouchon, and try the 3-course menu at Le Grain de Poivre, Villa Pizza is good too). You can also walk yourself to the pier and get kayaks or ferry to Isle Pinel (plenty of parking too if you get there before 11am). Apart from that there are many more restaurant choices in nearby Grand Case and you can't leave without spending a day at Orient beach to the east.

Pamela Popo is a great choice for a private getaway for a couple or a good spot for a small family or two couples to split. Highly recommended!

exceptionnel & paradisiaque

Invitation au repos et à la sérénité, pour cette superbe "open air house" avec une magnifique terrasse et une vue fantastique.

La piscine a fleur d'eau sur l'horizon vous émerveillera...

Cette villa a été étudié dans le moindre détail afin de satisfaire toutes les exigences de ses locataires, il ne manque rien!

Merci à Sylvie qui aura été d'une aide efficace dans toutes circonstances et de bons conseils.

Robbed in

Sylvie and Oliviers home is very pretty...

However there are a few crucial things not mentioned in the listing:

1. We were asked to take care of a cat. Nowhere in the listing or our correspondence was this mentioned. I have horrible cat allergies so this wasn't good. Every morning, the cat would leave us a dead and bloody lizard in the kitchen. On four separate occasions we had to clean splattered blood and guts off the kitchen floor first thing before breakfast.

2. There is no toilet in the main bedroom area. If you need to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night you'll need to walk down an outside set of narrow stairs into a toilet closet.

3. The house is at the top of about 5 flights of stone stairs. This is fine as my boyfriend and I are young and in good shape but in the subtropical heat this daily task became tiresome quickly.

4. The most important thing to note is that this is an open air house without doors. The kitchen, main toilet and dinning room are all exposed with no way of securing them at night. So when we woke up one morning, our bag holding our wallet that had been tucked in a corner of the kitchen was stolen. Could we have been more cautious? Yes. But the bottom line is that while we slept, a stranger wandered through the house, took our things, and helped themselves to a Coke from the fridge.

The next day we were forced to notify Sylvie and the police. Sylvie did not come back to the house to help us. In fact, she was only worried about the safety of her own items.

Because we lost a day of vacation, and had no food or money for that last day (even western unions were closed as it was a holiday), Sylvie kindly offered us 3 free nights in the next year outside of major holidays.

We tried to take her up on this offer recently and she said it was only possible if we spent 7 nights (4 chargeable to us). Her listing states there is a 5 night minimum. This made no sense except that Sylvie and Olivier are only interested in generating passive income and not at all interested in being fair, honest or honorable hosts.

Finally, if you choose to go to this property around March -June, beware the smell of rotting seaweed that wafts in from the harbor. It's a putrid smell that permeates the entire neighborhood.

Owner's Response: Here is my side of the story.. Quinn and his Boy friend rented the house in may 2015 with a competitor website Airbnb. They called me on one morning to announce that they have been robbed and lost the house's keys. I was on the nearby island on that day, and I immediately called the neighbor and the national gendarmerie to ask them for help, explaining them what has happened. Quinn and his boy friend did not want to make a deposition to the gendarmerie, I did not understand why.. The day after they told me that they have found their bag with the wallet and the credit card but not the keys. They did not want anymore the money I offered them. In the mean time, I asked them how the door of the living room could be opened if they did not have the keys to open it… What is more, is that they told me that they stopped the credit card, and after they have found it they can use it again, a piece of nonsense.. I had to replace the 3 locks of the house which is composed of three separated units, each unit has a door that can be locked of course! The villa is a caribbean style open air house and build on 3 levels that makes you feel free and respects your privacy, obviously with doors and shutters as it can be seen on the photos. The kitchen, main toilet and dining room are in the open air area now with a main door that can be locked. Who is enough imprudent to let his bag with the keys and wallet in an open area and what's more, don't close the door of the room when leaving or going to sleep? The house is in a community gated residence, and such an incident never happened in the house. I always explain to my guests that each unit has to be locked when one is leaving the house. Does everybody let his house unlocked when leaving or when go sleeping? Olivier and I have had more than 60 bookings during the past 2 years, and never had such a problem with our guests. All the appreciations that have been posted on the vacation rental sites including this one can testify to that. Concerning the problem with the seaweed, a cleaning program has been deployed on the island to eliminate them since november 2015. I just want to notify that the problem coming from Brazil was not local and a lot of places have been concerned. To conclude, I would say that I consider their comment as a childish revenge and I sincerely regret this situation.

we had a fantastic holiday at this open air Private island retreat. There is a great view from everywhere and we would highly recommend this for an adventerous couple looking for a great escape on the island. Very convenient for trips to pinel, orient beach, and Ance Marcel.

AMAZING VILLA!

Thank you Sylvie and Oliver for a wonderful vacation home!

My husband and I had a lovely time in St. Maartin exploring the many beaches, fantastic food and scenery, but we couldn't wait to return to this beauty of a Villa at the end of each day. We even preferred to relax poolside a couple of days, vs the beach.

We counted 69 natural steps which lead directly into the open kitchen. Nicely hidden away! It is exactly how it appears in the photos, pristine. Well done!

wonderful home and location!

We really enjoyed our stay. Sylvie made us feel most welcome, including making wonderful recommendations. The home is very special. Plenty of space and a very open feel. The house is appointed with everything you can think of, including a fantastic bottle of wine upon arrival. The location is the best on the island. Hope to return. Schlosser family.
