Beautiful views, comfortable home. Loved our walks on the beach every day!
The views are fantastic. The place is very clean and well equipped for your needs while you are staying there. Its so refreshing to see the water from the patio or your table while you are dining. Very quiet at night and no lights to disturb your sleeping unless you want to turn them on. Sunrise and sunset views are gorgeous. You also have access to the beach with a very short walk. Can't say enough about how we enjoyed out visit. We will be back again!
If you're looking in Lubec I'm going to assume you know what to expect regarding the weather. I was blessed with an exceptionally nice week with very little rain and less fog than usual. (But I love Lubec even in the rain and fog.)
On to the apartment. I traveled alone and was quite comfortable. The nicest feature is the combination of the deck and the eating area inside, just in front of it (this is currently the featured photo, and rightly so). I spent a lot of time on the deck (nicely shaded in the afternoons); trees and fields to the left, water and islands straight ahead.
Things you might like to know that aren't clear from the photos and description: the rocking chair has been replaced with a recliner, which was fortunate for me, because the sofa has been replaced with a twin bed in disguise as a day bed. Even with a bunch of pillows I couldn't find any comfortable way to sit on it. The recliner was great.
You should know, especially if you are a couple with kids and you still like each other, that there is no door between the two bedrooms. They share a single closet with no closet doors. The doors are staggered so you can't see between the two rooms, but there is no aural privacy.
The apartment (which is over a garage, by the way, but you'd never know it while inside) is a 10 or so minute drive to town, and an even shorter drive to Quoddy Head. (The washer and dryer are downstairs.)
If the sofa had been sittable I would have been even happier, but I had a very good time here and plan to return. I've stayed in many places in Lubec; this was one of my favorites.
This was great. As advertised and more. The location is near everything. The kitchen has everything you need and the sunrise is wonderful( very early)Bald Eagles and a very interesting tide.Jodie was very helpful with all the information there with things to do and places to go.If it is relaxation you are looking this is the place.Quiet and comfortable. We are planning our next trip..Thanks again Jodie for a great job..
First Light Loft is situated steps away from the waterfront of "Down East Maine" and is the perfect get-away. Leave all of your worries and the hustle and bustle of every day life and come relax in the most beautiful natural surroundings you will ever enjoy.
Steps away from the loft you can stroll the beaches for miles as the tide receedes and hunt for sea glass, shells or walk the mussel beds and hunt for "rinkles" a real down east delicacy. Perhaps while walking the beaches you will see seals, bald eagles, whales or catch the rare glimpse of a sand dollar moving along the bottom of the bay.
Within 2 miles is East Quoddy lighthouse with all of its breathtaking views and hikes along the jagged rock cliffs of Maine. While at Quoddy you can stroll an Artic Bog and be amazed at all of the beautiful and unusual plants.
Located within a short drive is the town of Lubec - a peaceful friendly New England fishing town. Or Campobello Island full of natural wonders, FDR's summer home, lobster pounds and salmon farms. You can take the ferry to Deer Island or East Port and enjoy all they have to offer.
You can travel into Lubec and purchase fresh lobster and seafood direct from the docks and cook in the well equipped kitchen at the loft. There is no better way to spend the end of your day then cooking and eating fresh lobster then dining at the loft and watching the sun set over the bay.
The loft is well equipped, clean and will meet all of your needs. The loft is located at a VERY QUIET, peaceful and serene location. Just hop out on to the deck at night and be amazed by the beauty of a night sky that is not ruined by light or air pollution.
We highly recommend the First Light Loft and Lubec Maine to anyone that wants to experience the tranquility of Down East Maine. It is a great escape you will never forget and you long to return every day you are away. It was one of the best and most relaxing vacations my wife and I have enjoyed over the last 30 years.

Lubec is home to the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse, situated at the easternmost point of land in the U.S. In Lubec you will find sandy beaches (a rarity this far Down East), bold coastal cliffs, coastal rain forest, wildflower meadows, and peat bogs. The Lubec area is host to three state parks, a national wildlife refuge, and several nature preserves, all of which offer a variety of well maintained hiking trails. Local whale, wildlife, and puffin tours offer the chance to observe nature up close from the water as do kayak and canoe rental facilities and many public boat ramps. The area is rich in history the first naval battle of the Revolutionary War was fought in nearby Machiasport. Maine's own 'Cannery Row' lined the waterfronts of Lubec and Eastport with sardine canning factories and herring smoke houses. You'll find it all here rich history, spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife, and friendly people. You won't find pollution, crowds, or traffic jams.
Other Activities: numerous hiking trails, nature preserves, parks, and lighthouses in immediate area
