Unsafe Neighborhood, Choleric Husband

  • 1 of 5

I stayed over 2 weeks at this place and I regret ever going.

I had a less than pleasurable first few days and I went to the husband to complain about it. I wasn't in the mood to discuss things so I just voiced my issues and left again. The husband pretended to be nice asked me to hear him out.

I thought he was reasonable, so I gave him a chance. He immediately started making up reasons so he could yell at me.

- While I greeted him the day before, I didn't greet him the day before that. "I WAS HERE WITH A CLIENT AND YOU DIDN'T SAY HELLO!"

- He yelled at me for not having paid yet. I arrived on a Friday and I transferred the money through Transferwise to their bank account. I asked the wife if she wanted to wait for confirmation, she said no and left. So, I sent her a screenshot of the confirmation page immediately afterwards. It clearly said the money would be there the next Wednesday. The husband was yelling at me on Tuesday. "YOU HAVEN'T PAID YET!" "Yes, I have." "NO, YOU HAVEN'T!"

Then he further intimidated me by telling me a story of how the neighbors' house got broken into. Burglars cut the electric fence, locked up the neighbors, and stole their valuables. He also told me about how a neighbor was openly carrying a gun around with him because of frequent breakins.

The next day the husband just pretended everything was normal and told me the wife put fresh towels and bedding in front of my door. I was too intimidated by him to voice any further concerns so I just nodded along.

He kept trying to greet me every day and didn't understand why I wouldn't talk to him anymore.

I told the wife through Homeaway that I wasn't interested in further communication with either of them due to this hostility. A few days later she saw me walk by their front door and she came out. "HELLO! GOOD EVENING!" She yelled these words even though I was 3 meters away from her at the time.

On the last day there was no thank you by the husband, no goodbye, no nothing.

Owner's Response: We sincerely regret that one of our guests perceived his experience as less than warm and friendly.

Lovely place!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with Dorrie and Terry from the 26th december till the 8th of january. We really loved the house. It's very clean and everything you need is there. The sleeping room and bathroom are very spacious. Our son of 7 years old really liked the pool and the tortoises in the garden!!

Dorrie and Terry are always willing help when you have any questions. I definitly recommend this guest lodge.

Comfortable and functional

  • 5 of 5

The property is functional, nicely furnished and comfortable. Fully equipped and offered enough space and help from Dorrie and Terry, to entertain our friends and family to my Mothers 90th birthday function. The hosts even provided additional crockery, cutlery, glasses, chairs and a brand new BBQ. Mum was able to stay over without any problems, just encouragement from Dorrie and Terry - they were fabulous and were the icing on the cake to the great accommodation. Thanks Guys !

A most memorable stay

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I spent 3 weeks here. It was our first visit to SA and we were a little apprehesive. Dorrie and Terry put our minds at rest and were always on hand to give us local information and friendly advice. The apartment was very clean and well maintained and was adequate for our requirements. The location was perfect for sightseeing, making everything easy to get to. It was also excellent value for money.

We were very pleased with our decision to stay in this apartment and would definately recommend it to others.

Garden table, chairs and sun loungers on terrace leading to barbeque facilities, pool and tranquil garden. The apartment is adjacent to our residential home, and therefore the pool area is completely private. Smokers will be requested to only smoke outside. Private parking available within an electronically gated property. Full service once a week and bedding exchanged weekly. Towels exchanged regularly, as per your requirements. Stairs from lounge to bedroom upstairs could be inconvenient for the frail, however, the 270 degree views across the mountains, from upstairs, are stunning.
