About Russ Davis

I purchased the home in late 1980, lived there for 3 years and because of a new business and the time necessary to run it. We spend a lot of time boating on the North end of Lake Leelanau, and Grand Traverse Bay

Russ Davis purchased this house in 1980

Why Russ Davis chose Northern Michigan

The close proximity to Leland was a definite + can see local beach from anyplace in front of house. The privacy was another consideration before we bought, there's no one up at that level.

What makes this house unique

Large parking area for boats etc.... Dog Kennel side of garage with dog house through side of garage.

This location is a short distance to the most beautiful part of Leelanau County LELAND. Falling waters Lodge and the Cove Restaurant are favorites. If possible check the outside deck by the water falls. Absolutely mesmerizing

Leland Vacation

  • 4 of 5

This was our first time coming up there for vacation as a family and we had an amazing time. The house was in the perfect location to go to the beach, dunes, and shopping. The house was very spacious and cleanly. The only issue we had was that some of the outlets did not work. But other than that we had a blast.

OK, but be aware....

  • 2 of 5

We had a nice time in the house. It is just as it looks on the pictures. During our stay we were surprised that we were instructed in writing to leave, upon departure, all linens clean. The first night, around 2 am, we heard water noises, kind of water running through pipes. We learned later that a service call to fix a leak related to the dishwasher would be scheduled during our stay and I was asked to coordinate directly since the landlord would be out of town.

The utensils, china, appliances and mattresses need upgrading.

It is a nice house, investing a bit on it would make it much nicer.

It took almost 3 weeks and various emails and a couple of phone calls to get our security deposit back.

We have enjoyed 24 Summers in a row at the Davis house in Leland.

  • 5 of 5

Our first family trip to this Leland property was when our first-born was an infant. We had a great time and came back each Summer as our children grew up with this house acting as our "vacation house". It holds a special place in all of our hearts. It is always clean, well maintained and the owner has always promptly solved any of the problems which have occurred during the past 24 years.

Needs updating

  • 3 of 5

The view is lovely but to call it an "executive retreat" is a stretch. It has potential to be lovely, but needs updating. Plus, ripped towels and old linens do not meet an "executive" rating. The oven is small and outdated, not what you would expect from a Jen-Air. The mattresses are soft and the cable TV did not work. No air conditioning (probably don't need it often, but it was a hot July) and if you open the sliding glass door in the upstairs bedroom you can hear the busy road below. The layout of the house is very nice. It has a long winding steep driveway - good exercise but wouldn't want to try it in the winter! The area near Leland is beautiful but the house does not have lake access. We were a bit disappointed in our accomodations, but loved the area and enjoyed the scenery and wineries. The small town of Leland is within two miles and is fun to relax and browse the shops. Good restaurants are there also.

Dick's Pour House is a local favorites hang-out. In season they have probably the most reasonable, and best tasting Perch and Bluegill fish around. Dick's is located directly in the town of Lake Leelanau. Another of my favorite's is Fishers Tavern, about 13 miles north of Leland on M22
