I own and operate a farm called Smolak Farms in North Andover, Massachusetts, about a 50 minute drive from my home to Ogunquit.
H. Michael Smolak Jr. purchased this house in 1988
This is undoubtably one of the closest and best locations and closest to stay near Ogunquit Beach. Located on a quiet street and only a very short walk to the beach or to the center of town.
Our family had an absolutely fantastic time in this beautiful house. The location and the accommodations exceeded my expectations.
We could walk to the beach (which we did daily) in just a few minutes. Walking to town was equally as easy.
From the house we took a few "day trips", to York (Nubble Lighthouse, Stonewall Kitchen), Kennebunkport (Dock Square), and Portland (Lighthouse, Old Port). Otherwise, we spent our days on the beach and walking the breathtaking Marginal Way. In addition we walked a few times to Perkins Cove and spent a few nights shopping in the Village. Ogunquit has so much to offer!
The large deck was great for morning coffee. I can't think of a better way to start the day.
We can't wait to go back again next year!
This is the second time that we have used the VRBO site to find a place to stay for our long weekend escape in Ogunquit. Our first experience at another house was wonderful. Our recent stay at this particular house fell shirt of our expectations. We visited with two other couples. The weather was fabulous and the location is perfect for walking. It's a short distance to the quaint town or to the beach. Views from the porch were outstanding. Our disappointment was in the condition/cleanliness of the house. The floors were quite dirty. We had to pass the mop before we could sit down and relax. The carpet was dirty. The floors under the bed has dust balls. When I cleaned a small spill on the kitchen floor, the paper towel was black from the dirty floor. There was even a pair of scissors, a bottle of hand cream and a dog toy under the cushions of the couch.
We were disappointed when we spoke to Michael about this and he didn't offer to reimburse or compensate us in any way. The internet didn't work well. I assume that it's the location. Overall, we made the best of the weekend. Weather and the company of great understanding friends at the Maine coast made up for our disappointing accommodations. Unfortunately, we won't be returning.
Have travelled from Ireland to stay in this property several times, every time it has been perfect, ideally located, well equipped fantastic place for group of family or friends to get together. Owner is great to deal with. look forward to staying there again soon.
Property clean and well-maintained. Will surely go back. Highly recommended.
It was everything we could have wanted and more… The house is so close to the beach and the center of town, just a few minutes to walk to either. We parked the car and it did not move. The house was in great shape and the owner told us he was going to renovate the outside next year.. We were very happy with the way it is..Could it get any better?
The house was exactly as described. From the house we could hear no street noise plus each room had blinds for those who cared to sleep in.
The walk to the beach was easy...our 5 year old (and her 4 yr. friends) walked it every day. Also super easy to take the car and park for free in 30 min. parking to unload ALL of our stuff.
Our afternoon routine incorporated the huge deck...there were definitely nice views of the water and comfortable seating. From up there, we got the benefit of the ocean breezes and the deck was shady by cocktail hour (which was ideal given the 90+ temps). We also used the grill which was a nice option.
The upstairs and downstairs provided so much privacy...kids could go to bed early and never hear the adults...the opposite was also true in the mornings.
The furniture was comfortable and the house was very clean. I would definitely recommend this home.
