4 bedroom, luxury 'home from home' in the city centre
About Hannah Forbes
Gordon was born and raised in Edinburgh. Hannah is from England, but spent many years living in Kenya and South Africa. We have three wonderful children, two of whom are at university, with one still at school.
Hannah Forbes purchased this Apartment in 2007
Why Hannah Forbes chose New Town
We decided to buy a second home and spent two weekends seeing more than 50 properties. The minute we walked through the door we knew that this was the one for us. It is beautifully proportioned with 14' ceilings, retains many original features, is in a beautiful Georgian building, and located in the wonderful East End of the city with walking distance to everything. We never use a car when we are there, and feel immersed in the fabric of the city. We use the apartment often ourselves, but also love that we can share it with our discerning visitors.
What makes this Apartment unique
This is far from a typical holiday rental. It is a gorgeous, top quality, much-loved second home. You will forgive us for asking about your group before a booking is confirmed. We want to ensure that our apartment is well looked after, and ask all our guests to be respectful of the other residents in the building who live there permanently are all lovely people.

Fabulous flat! There is NOT off-street parking
We loved our stay at this fabulous apartment. The location is accurately described in the listing, very close to everything you might want to do. The kitchen was well appointed, the beds were comfortable. The apartment was professionally decorated, and was one of the nicest rentals I have stayed in. Please be advised, however, that there is NO off street parking. The only place to park is in a metered spaces in front of the unit, and the spaces are extremely limited. Fortunately, we arrived on Friday and It is free to park there on Saturday and Sunday. So we only had to pay for Friday afternoon and Monday morning. Very expensive metered parking.
We're so happy that you enjoyed your stay and thank you for the lovely feedback. Yes, we explain the parking arrangements when guests ask about this. A car is not needed around the city so we usually suggest parking a few streets away where it is free. Alternatively, there are car hire companies within a 5 minute walk for those who want to do day trips.
Home was beautiful, very comfortable and an easy walk to everything from restaurants & bars to shopping & old town
Thank you so much for your feedback. We are delighted that you had a great stay in Edinburgh and loved the apartment as much as we do.
Quiet & Walking Distance to Old Town
Seven of us — ages 12-84 — stayed in the flat. We had a wonderful time. The flat itself has everything you need and is very well appointed. The pictures are accurate. We found the flat to be more spacious than we expected and very comfortable. The furnishings are all well maintained and comfortable. A lovely welcome basket was given to us — the fresh loaf of delicious bread was a hit with everyone. The flat is in a quiet area and is peaceful.
There is a playground just around the corner. Restaurants are plentiful and nearby. There are several grocery shopping options nearby too.
To get around, we did a mix of walking & taxi. It is hilly so if you plan on walking principally have good walking shoes. I walked up to the royal mile and all around the Old Town area. City Taxi provided good on time service. One day we rented a car from the rental place down the street and explored Scotland outside Edinburgh. You definitely do not need a car in this area.
We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.
Wonderful location. Great place to stay.
Previous reviews and pictures accurately portray apartment. It is spacious, well furnished, w responsive owners/staff.
We would stay again.
Thank you Roy, we're so pleased that you enjoyed your stay.
The Forbes HOME is a grand, warm, very well decorated and finely appointed home that is greatfully shared with travelers to the grand city of Edinburgh.
Our family of eight loved it!
Thanks for this lovely feedback. We want to ensure this is not 'another rental', but rather a real, luxury 'home from home'.
The apartment and location could not have been better for our family of 8
We loved staying at this beautifully decorated flat that felt immediately like home.
Thank you Caryn. We want it to feel like home rather than an anonymous rental, so pleased it hit the mark for you!
