Plum Island is a wonderful vacation spot.
We are a family that owns multiple homes on Plum Island in the same general area. We have nine summer rentals
that we advertise on Home Away and we have our own web site for you to acquire more information
about our homes and surrounding vacation area. http://www.plumislandhouserentals.net/rental-properties/1_vacation-rentals/3_qhalfway-rocksq-vacation-house-on-plum-island-2-bedroom-8r-mcleod-ave-newbury-ma-01951
The listing and pictures on this sight are exactly the way we found it. It was simply a wonderful place for our vacation to the East coast. We used it as our base as we traveled to and from Maine and the greater Boston area, including Cape Cod. Our cottage/home for the week was very clean and excellently maintained. Joyce was a gracious host and a very friendly helpful guide. The kitchen had everything we needed and the gas grill provided was an extra bonus. When you are traveling from the midwest such as we were, it was wonderful not having to worry about packing linens, towels, etc. Our little cabin had everything we needed for our week vacation. The beach was a short walk and the cool summer breeze was perfect on the front porch as we ate our breakfast. We would recommend this vacation property to anyone as it a very good value for your vacation $$$. Enjoy and relax as we did!
This house is located a short walk from the beach in a quiet area very close to the perfect viewing spot for beautiful sunsets over the marsh! My 3 kids aged 3-9 begged to walk not drive! Having the parking pass was nice as well as I also have a baby. Unfortunately, there is not always enough parking at the beach even if you have the pass.
Even better, it is one of the cleanest rentals we have ever had (we rent thru homeaway 2-4 times a year). And the response for minor problems was very fast. The maintenance man and owner/managers were all very nice and very accomodating. They went out of their way making special allowances for us!
The yard was great. The kids (and their grandparents) loved the swing and the apple trees. The 3 season porch was also very nice... really helped us to keep the noise away from the bedrooms.
The only problem with this property -- our family is too big for it. We will try one of their bigger properties next time!
One note for those who have never been to Plum Island. It was our first time going to this beach. The beach itself was great as it was very sandy (not at all rocky). But the waves were very big and powerful and the shore very steep in this area. My bigger kids thought it was great fun to play in the waves. But it was not as good for the little ones. They still had a blast but required constant hands on supervision as the waves would really knock them over. Another beach goer told me the state park at the end of the island is great for little ones, but our schedule didn't give us a chance to try it out.
My wife and I stayed here last year with our two young children and our puppy. We had an amazing time. The beach is an easy walk from the front door. The grocery down the street is very convenient. Parking is easy. The internet is fast. The kitchen has everything you need. Joyce came over and talked to us and was so friendly. We loved it so much that we just booked it again for this year!!
Two friends and I just returned from a wonderful weeks stay at this property. We couldn't have asked for a better rental. Joyce was so pleasant and helpful in every way. She was there meeting our needs through out the entire week. The house was very clean and comfortable. There was easy access to the beach, and a great parking space provided with the rental. Plum Island is a quiet and pristine destination. Unlike other beaches it is quiet and yet close to Newburyport and beaches North. "Bob's Lobster" was nearly within walking distance and hailed great fresh seafood, either cooked and eat there, or take home. Needless to say we ate seafood from there several times. The Parker River Refuge Info Center was very interesting and worth the stop. I would recommend this rental to anyone. Joyce even had bikes that we could use to get around the Island. We are already making arrangements to stay there again next summer. Thank you Joyce and family for a wonderful, relaxing vacation.

Our stay over Labor Day was great. We had a family birthday party and everyone had a good time. The weather was so-so during the week but there are plenty things to do nearby in Newburyport. It was a nice vacation and we will be looking forward to next year.
The property was very clean and the location was great. We enjoyed sitting out on the porch in the evening.
cozy and quaint (yes, somewhat small) but a great bargain. We stayed there in early to mid August - wonderful weather! The owner lives next door, she was very pleasant and friendly. She was eager to ensure that we had all we needed and that our stay was pleasant.
The place is small, there was only my husband and me, would have been crowded with our grown children, but for the two of us, of if you have small children, plenty big enough. Two good sized bedrooms. The kitchen had the basics, as did the whole place, nothing fancy.
The best parts of the house, the marsh breezes - wonderful, the front porch - super, and best of all - the parking spot the owner has secured for her tenants, right across from one of the best parts of the beach. Easy parking, quick walk to the beach.
Overall, loved this place, the amenities are basic, but everything you need is there, the value for the money is unbeatable. After all, the reason you come to this wonderful place is the beach - and her access is TOP NOTCH. We would stay there again in a heartbeat, highly recommended.
Swimming, biking, nature walks, fishing, Plum Island National Wildlife reservation is very close by. Downtown Newburyport is only a couple of miles away with many things to do such as shopping, great restaurants, art galleries, special summer events, enjoy the waterfront boadwalk, harbor tours, whale watching. Take the train into Boston to spend the day. Visit historic Portsmouth, N.H. Or just relax on our beautiful Plum Island with the ocean and the sunrises and sunsets.
