We are Ronald and Pam Shenk and have lived in the Luray area our entire lives. We have lived and raised a family of three children on Ronald's family farm. Ronald has been a building contractor in the area for over 25 years and has built our vacation rental properties.
Ronald or Pam Shenk purchased this cabin in 2002
This cabin was hancrafted by Ronald with logs from a neighboring property and sawn on his sawmill. The unique setting is very peaceful with beautiful views but yet close to most area attractions. We decided to decorate with local antiques and memories of times gone by.
We hope you and your family enjoy your stay as you will feel our cabin is your "home away from home" while you visit the Luray area.
One of the best benefits of our cabins is their proximity to the Caverns. We are the closest cabins to Luray Caverns and just outside of the Town of Luray. We are also close to restaurants and the "things to do" in the area.
This is our first time here to the cabin and I fell in love with it as soon as I opened the door.
I love the interior decorating, everything looks great and has a real down home country feel to the place, the antiques are great.
You guys have though of everthing to make the stay so enjoyable, a little bit for everyone to enjoy.
I really enjoyed sitting out on the porch on the swing enjoying the sunset go down and my favorite of all watching the deer come and wander about and playing.
I really hate to go home after being here. We definitely intend to make return trips.
Thanks for making us so much welcome.
Had a great experience during our stay & loved the location and convenient accommodations in the cabin. We have three kids, ages 13 and twin 8 yr olds and a shit tzu. They all loved being outside playing in the spacious yard outside the cabin and looking for sticks to make a fire in the fire pit, where we made snores! Loved sitting on the swing on the front porch feeling the morning sun and relax! Loved it!
Our family stayed at Deer Country Log Cabin in July of this year. It was so beautiful! The cabin fit our needs perfectly and I just cannot say enough about how nice it was. We had 4 adults and 4 children and we all loved the cabin! The location was amazing within 5 miles of the caverns and Walmart but still out in the country with plenty of privacy. Thank you Pam and Ron and I hope we get to visit Luray again and Deer Country Cabin.
When we walked through the door of this cabin, we were blown away by how spacious it was. The web pictures don't do it justice. The kitchen had plenty of cookware and silverware with attention to detail such as an opener for wine bottles, charcoal and matches. Though the cabin is not far from a road, mostly you would never know it. It was very quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed playing badminton on the front lawn and sitting on the front porch in the evening. The property is clean and well maintained. It is also centrally located to New Market, Museum of Frontier Culture and lots of other "must sees" in the area. It is about 5 minutes from Luray Caverns. Other amazing things we did while there include tubing with Shenandoah River Outfitters , a visit to Luray Rescue Zoo, and a trail ride with Fort Valley Stables. The museum at New Market was awesome as was the Museum of Frontier Culture (in Staunton). We also hiked the White Oak Falls trail in Shenandoah National Park, but from the park boundary up to the Lower Falls rather than from Skyline Drive down. It was a nice hike and the falls were beautiful. When we contacted the owners regarding renting the property, Pam got back to us promptly and was both friendly and professional in all her contact with us. I would definitely recommend this property to a friend, and as a result of this experience I believe property rentals like this are the best way for a family to vacation. We would venture out to attractons or activities during the day and come home to a home-cooked meal and dvds and games or time on the porch to relax afterward. The cabin is set in a meadow but the Shenandoah Mountains are every where you look. It's a beautiful, peaceful spot.
What a great cabin. 4 adults and 4 children (ages 3-9) shared the cabin for a full week. The space was great. The kitchen was well equipped. I had brought some of my own cookware based on a prior review, but obviously the owners have invested in a new set of stainless steel pots/pans which were very nice.
One adult is a paraplegic and full time wheelchair user, and with the addition of a very small portable ramp (6 inch step onto porch) and a tub bench the first floor was fully functional for his needs.
Lots of activities to do in the vicinity: caverns, Skyline Drive, fishing and swimming in the river, Lake Arrowhead...
We also saw a local production of "Charlotte's Web" at the performing arts center which was just adorable.
We can't wait to go again next year.
The cabin was nice, comfortable, close to attractions, and conveniently located while still being secluded . The property was sufficiently clean and well maintained. If you plan to prepare your own meals, the kitchen was stocked with plenty of flatware, dishes, and such, the only disappointment was the condition and quantity of cookware. I would recommend this property to a friend, and the owner provided good customer service. This property is pet friendly, but you would never know that a pet spent any time here. Overall it was a pleasure staying at Deer Country Cabin and I would probably return.
