Perched at the top of a delightful rural wildflower meadow, this waterfront cottage looks across Back River Cove to the unspoiled coastal woodland of the Medomak Valley Land Trust. Great spot for biking, kayaking and canoeing or just relax on our new private float! Interior is classically Maine, with pine floors and walls, picture window views and true cottage atmosphere. Large deck with picnic table, fully equipped kitchen, bath with shower stall, living/dining area, and two bedrooms; one with double bed and one with two twins (can be pushed together). Living area has pullout sofa, radio/tape player, TV/VCR, gas wood stove. Kitchen has microwave, gas stove, lobster pots, etc. Waldoboro is about 4 hours from Boston or 1-1/2 hours from Portland.
Henry and Cathy live in Miami FL. They have been traveling to Maine over the course of their 44 year marriage because as a child Henry vacationed in Maine with his parents. When our youngest daughter was 10 she went to the Audubon Camp in Bremen Maine. We had 10 days to comb the Mid Coast region and we knew that we needed to own a piece of paradise. So, the acquisition of the 2 cottages became a reality.
Cathy Block purchased this cottage in 2007
This piece of paradise fit all of our criteria. A place to come and relax with friends on a tranquil waterfront. Since there are two cottages about 75 yards away it gives privacy if the two are rented to different people and it also gives a chance to travel with friends or extended family. Cathy loved the uniqueness of the retro cottages that gave her the opportunity to easily enjoy decorating and turning them into Raspberry and Blueberry over the years. They love to kayak from the dock (although renters must bring their own but they can enjoy the row boat, at their own risk) around the cove and nearby islands. When the tide goes out mussel collecting becomes another adventure for that special indoor meal! . If you like to poke around and discover things Mid Coast Maine is the spot. We discover something new each year!!
Location, Location, Location!!! After exploring the area for over 10 years we have found that the being close to all Mid-Coast activities is wonderful. You are away from it all on the cove but traveling to Boothbay, Rockland, Camden or Outlet shopping in Freeport are all easy treks. It is even possible to visit Acadia National park for the day. If you are coming from far away the Portland airport is just over an hr drive and Boston/Logan is a 3 hour drive.
A charming retreat overlooking a serene meadow and a quiet cove. We had a lovely time in the cabin and were very comfortable. Just the right size for myself, husband, and our two Pembroke Welsh Corgis. We spent our days sitting by the cove, picking wild blueberries, visiting local farms (an alpaca farm and a sheep farm), and relaxing with a wonderful view. Whatever we needed the owners were there to provide -- the most gracious hosts any guest could request. I enjoyed baking blueberry pies, blueberry biscuits, and Dutch baby pancakes with the sweet wild blueberries we picked, Even our dogs enjoyed eating the blueberries right off the bush. Located in a secluded area, just what we wanted, we had a nice relaxing stay. Can't wait to visit again very soon!!
This time we stayed in the Raspberry cottage next door and it was an amazing time! We brought our two dogs and the weather was perfect. Everything is within driving distance but the cottage is just enough out of the way for serenity! We will be back!
We just completed our third stay in the Blueberry/Raspberry cottages. It was wonderful as always! The perfect size for our family of four, it's close enough to everything we want to do but far enough off the beaten path to offer much-needed solitude. We love rowing in the cove, sitting outside in the meadow looking at all the stars, and just relaxing on the dock next to the cool water. We can take a day trip to Acadia or spend time closer by in Rockland, Camden, Pemaquid, or other places nearby. Moody's and The Narrows are great places for dinner close by. One word of warning - once you enjoy the peace and quiet in this cozy cottage, you might not want to leave! That's why we keep coming back.
We had such an amazing time at the blueberry cottage, I wish we could've stayed longer.. Everything you need is right there, but we mostly just needed a spot to relax and do nothing.. It was so clean and quiet and comfortable.
It was a great place to unplug and really spend quality family time together.. We really needed to do that and we loved every minute. We are definitely going to be back!
Waking up in the early morning light at Blueberry Cottage is more than a thrill- it is always the start of an adventure! What to do today? A hike, a trip to the lighthouse, kayaking, a trip to a nearby cute town for a meal and an explore? All are possibilities. Some days, however, (some of the best ones) are spent just hanging out at the cottage. Good meals with friends and family on the deck rank high on our "favorites" list. At night we enjoy playing cards, figuring out jigsaw puzzles, or competing in board games. The night normally ends with a look up at stars that seem so close you just know you can reach out and touch them. I really can't wait to get back up there!
When my husband and I think vacation, we think Mid-Coast Maine. The drive from Boston is only about 3.5 hours with plenty of places to stop for lunch along the way.
We have stayed in Blueberry and Raspberry cottages and we can't decide which one we like best. Both cottages have everything you need for a comfortable escape. A well equipped kitchen (even lobster tools!), bathrooms, games, and a boom box that plays a great classic rock station (102.5!) The dock is a perfect place to begin a boat ride or to sit, read a book, play a board game, or take a nap. Our dog loves to roam with us through the meadow and slosh through the mud at low tide. We love this feature since it's hard to find dog-friendly digs.
I've rented the cottages for a family getaway and a girls' weekend too. I highly recommend them for both. We've recently had a baby and look forward to bringing her along next time!
There are many attractions within a 30 minute drive. Some include a nature walk at the Audubon Center in Bremen, a ferry from New Harbor to Monhegan Island, a visit to Pemaquid Lighthouse in Bristol or the Jetty Light in Rockland. How about antiquing in the countryside or shopping in the nearby villages of Damariscotta, Round Pond or Friendship?
Drive 15 minutes more to Boothbay Harbor or take a tall ship day cruise from Camden. Birding, hiking and bicycle routes are nearby and sheltered water for kayaking and canoeing is a step off the beach. In Rockland visit the Farnsworth Museum and take in the Owls Head Transportation Museum. Visit the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath and Fort Edgecomb near picturesque Wiscasset. There are theater performances all summer in Waldoboro, Damariscotta and other nearby towns.
Attend the Wooden Boat Show, The Maine Blues Festival, The Lobster Festival or Boats and Harbor show in Rockland.
Other Activities: awesome kayaking, hiking, birdwatching, restauranting, unique shopping.

There is a 2nd Cottage on sight. Raspberry cottage is about 75 yards from Blueberry cottage and is great if you have extended family or friends. Far enough away if you only rent one cottage.
The Pet Deposit is not taxable and refundable is everything is left in good order.
