Our delightful summer home in Cape Porpoise, Kennebunkport, is bright and welcoming. It is located on a dead end street within walking distance to Cape Porpoise village. We are secluded but close to everything.
This unique cottage has two stories. Downstairs, the living room has a Sealy sectional sleep sofa, cable TV, DVD and a wood burning stove. This room can be closed off for privacy. A large, modern, eat-in kitchen with brand-new stove, dishwasher and eating area for 4 people. Our bath is fully updated and has a shower. In the living room there are sliding glass doors which take you out to a fenced-in yard with a brick patio. It is equipped with table/chairs and Weber grill.
The second floor has a master bedroom with a queen-sized bed and sliders to a deck overlooking the cove. There are custom bunk beds in the second bedroom and a large closet. There are ceiling fans throughout the cottage, a/c upstairs and baseboard heating.
Our cottage has a Right of Way to Sampson Cove, with ocean access. This is part of the Rachel Carson Bird Sanctuary and Kennebunkport Conservation Trust. The migrating Great Egrets nest here. You will find our kayaks on the cove and are included in the rental with paddles and adult PFDs. You can kayak a little further to Cape Porpoise Harbor and its protected islands. Find secluded beaches, explore deserted islands or paddle out to to Goat Island Lighthouse to picnic on the rocks.
Our local beach is Goose Rocks Beach which is a few miles north along Rt. 9. You can bike there or take your car (parking sticker available at Police Station).
Cape Porpoise: Our village is in Kennebunkport but far from the crowds. It is a small community of lobstermen and locals where people remember you and always say hello. Stroll the 5 minute walk along the sidewalk to the village center. Many people come to eat at Nunan's Lobsterpot but there are other restaurants like The Wayfarer (BYOB) and the Captain's Table. You can walk to the pier which is a 3/4 mile walk or ride your bike. Here you'll find the CP lobster co-op, Pier Chowder House (clam shack) and Pier 77 ( fine dining restaurant) and The Ramp pub downstairs. The view of the lighthouse is spectacular and as are the sunsets
Our cottage supplies non-toxic household products free and clear of dyes and scents, sheets and towels.
Welcome to our cottage. My Mom and I are pleased to have you share our home in Maine. We love it here and rent to nice people like you when we can't enjoy it ourselves.
John Morin purchased this cottage in 2003
Our 'Kayak Kottage' is a wonderful retreat. It is spacious and bright on the inside and perfect for a family. Our yard is shaded for some time out of the sun and comes with an outside shower for a quick wash-up after a day paddling in Cape Porpoise Harbor or when you return from Goose Rocks Beach.
We have a right of way deeded to Sampson Cove from our house which is located less than 100 ft from the yard. We are the only people who can use it. You can bring your folding chairs to the waters edge and watch the tide flow. Our Kayaks are right there and all you need to get out on the water. All equipment is included. This is the hidden gem of our place. The ability to get out on the water without getting in your car. Paddle out and enjoy the natural beauty of the nesting Great Egrets. The lure of the uninhabited islands. With in Cape Porpoise Harbor are island beaches only accessible from the water. We have had seals swim up beside us and check us out.
Check in and check out were easy. The kayaks were great, once we found them hidden in the grass. And the proximity to town was awesome, a three minute walk and we would recommend any of the shops and restaurants in Cape Porpoise. The actual location was a bit of a let down though, neighbors in all four directions and not much of a view. You can just glimpse the water past the neighbor's house and only during high tide. The house itself is a bit dated and lacks some basic amenities, such as a blow dryer and any toiletries.
Property was as described, plenty of room in the kitchen and living room. Kitchen well equipped and fresh seafood nearby. First bedroom upstairs with deck and double bed great for a couple, 2nd bedroom is kind of make shift but works great for kids. Loved the shaded backyard, stayed nice and cool even midday in July. Clothesline and washer/dryer were a plus. Walking distance to coffee, breakfast, dinner and groceries was very convenient. Goose Rocks beach was the nicest beach I've been too, nice shallow shelf with gentle waves, great for small children so you don't have to worry about undertow, about an 8 minute drive. Kayaks were great and Sampson cove is beautiful. All gear was available, even a few pairs of water shoes. Very quiet lane, nice neighbors. We were 4 adults and a 3 year old, pull out couch downstairs worked great for grandma as stairs are steep, we had plenty of room.
We like off the beaten path peace and quiet when we stay in Maine. Yet here you are nearby local, quality eateries, a gift shop, etc. If you want to hang in Dock Square, it is a quick drive down the road. We used the owner's kayaks to visit and explore the local islands, including the local lighthouse. Enjoy the breeze that eases into the living area through sliders if you want to take a day off from the sun and fun. Brand new stove and grill...Bikes? Bring them. Try the local Goose Rocks ice cream shop, a visit to one of the local farms for fresh produce, a swim or a walk on the beach at Goose Rocks, Fortunes Rocks, or Biddeford Pool...a hike at the local sanctuary in Biddeford, a trip to Old Orchard for some pier fries, or a jaunt into Portland or Freeport. The beauty of Maine is all around you.
Well this is the second time my wife and I have stayed here over the last few years and it didn't disappoint. We both absolutely love Cape Porpoise and this place is perfectly positioned to enjoy everything the area has to offer. We'll be back that's for sure. The praise being said, we both agreed that having a working stove in the cooler days would be awesome but we understand why it might not be usable. Secondly, it might be time for new couches. The ones in the living room were very dirty on our arrival but luckily we had sheets with us to put on them so we could use them. We do still love the place and the issues were very minor. Thanks for the chance to stay!!!
Enjoy a shady, relaxing stay at the "Kayak cottage"...local seafood and veggies...kayak jaunts in the pristine cove...what a way to spend your vacation!
We loved Cape Porpoise and the house was in a great location. Hidden away near the cove but close to everything in town. We walked to the pier, the market, the restaurants.
It was clean, well equipped and comfortable.
Kayaks and all the necessary gear are a great perk.
The people in charge of the keys and the cleaning made themselves readily available and were very friendly.
Though there was no wifi at the house, one could use the wifi at the motel which was less than 5 minutes away.
Description is accurate.
Would love to go back someday.
