Lovely Sittingbourne house
This was a lovely house, with everything provided for a very pleasant stay. We found it well equipped, although we were out most of the time and did not make use of some of the facilities. However, we much appreciated using the free broadband internet. For those in the house more than we were, there were interesting books to read, SKY TV on the lovely big television in the living room, a dvd player, use of a telephone, tv in each bedroom, and, for those staying in the summer, a garden with trampoline for children.
There are good facilities for laundry with a washer/dryer, clothes airer (plus washing line in the garden for summer use) and an iron and ironing board. Also lovely thick, soft towels are provided.
We found the living room a lovely and relaxing room, even nicer than it looks in the photos, and we appreciated it very much, especially when we arrived in the evening after a long arduous journey. The owner was very welcoming, and very helpful. Also his wife was happy to help when he was not available - a very lovely family.
On the downside, we found the water pressure to be quite weak, and the shower in the en-suite was difficult to get to the correct temperature.
Also the kitchen equipment was not cleaned properly and the oven also needed cleaning. As we did not make much use of the kitchen as we either ate out or ate takeaways, we did not want to make a fuss of this. Also we had thought it had been overlooked and would be rectified after our stay (as there is a cleaner between stays). But we have no doubt the owner would have rectified this during our stay if we had informed him, as he is very friendly and helpful.
Despite the couple of downsides, on the whole this was a very enjoyable visit, and we would certainly be very happy to stay there again when next visiting the UK.
Thankyou for the comments. The points you have raised are very accurate and fair.
The issue with the (low) water pressure in the house affects everyone locally unfortunately. I will be installing a new shower in the en-suite before Summer 2010 which should make a difference I hope. I am not happy to read about the comments regarding the kitchen equipment and will address these issues with the cleaner immediately.
I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay and thank you again for your very kind comments.
Perfect for families
This house was perfect for our family for 5 weeks. We travelled from Brisbane Australia to visit my family in Kent, house was close by so we could travel to see them each day and also perfectly located for trips to Rochester and London we will be booking again next time we are over.
Good little house for a short stay
We stayed in this property in Sittingbourne for two weeks while our long term accommodation came available.
It's a small place but Duncan welcomes dogs so for us, two adults and two dogs, it was fine. The house was as advertised and clean, neat and tidy. Duncan introduced himself after we moved in and there was nothing that we had any issue with at all. For people from overseas, especially the USA, it does not have the charm or character of older English houses or cottages, but for us it did the job.
I have rated 4 stars, but really my only criticism is that some of the appliances, including TV service, could be updated for a place that costs a reasonable amount to rent.
Thanks Duncan, we would certainly look to come back if need a short stay place in the area.
clean homely house
the house was situated in a very quiet area It was a modern house with all the facilities we needed . Bright open lounge overlooking the garden with patio doors It wasn't the weather for the garden but we would have liked to have let our cat out with supervision but couldn't because fence was broken and cat could have escaped. Comfy settee with large television .There didn't seem to be any manuals for equipment which would have been handy. A bookcase with books was in the room .There could have been more for women .The books tended to be authors more appealing for men.A nice airy kitchen with all the amenities one could need with a dishwasher and washer dryer. Could have had a few more tins etc Upstairs 3 nice bedrooms very comfortable with bedding and furniture The ensuite was very nice with a good shower The bathroom was reasonable but the main shower leaked water everywhere .The screen wasn't long enough to prevent water going everywhere and we later found water going through the ceiling light in the main lounge Water was very hot and the house when heated was very warm.It was good to have towels and toilet rolls supplied .The owner provided local info and offered to clean an change beds whilst we were there .Overall a good stay and we enjoyed our visit to the house and would recommend it for anyone visiting Sittingbourne
A nice house in a quiet area
This house was perfect for our family with 2 young children. The location was quiet without being too remote. The nice garden at the back was completely enclosed so we didn't have to worry about the children wandering off. They also made friends with the owner's kids next door which was nice.
We did day trips to Leeds Castle, Howletts Zoo, Canterbury, London and local beaches a few times since the weather was so great during our stay.
The pub nearby did good food and the local shops and takeaway were handy too.
There was nothing fancy about the house at all but everything was clean and worked properly including the wi-fi thank goodness.
We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the house to others.
Basic holiday house, centrally located
Appropiate equipped holiday home in central location for
Canterbury, Deal, Dover, Bluewater and Greenwich (the latter very recommandable / a 55 minutes drive).
The house itself is simple equipped. Everything necessary is at hand, highlight is a big LCD-TV in the living room. The double beds were, especially for us continental europeans, quite small (approx. 120).
The landlord was very helpful (adjusting the shower, replacing the broken cd player).
Unfortunately we had to clean the kitchen, respectively the kitchen equipment, bevor we could start to cook.
Thankyou for your review.
I would like to point out that the beds in the larger bedrooms are standard double beds 54" or 137cm, not 120cm.
I will ask the house cleaner to check the kitchen utensils and equipment more closely in future to ensure they are clean but I do rely to a degree on the previous occupiers to wash up such items properly before they leave.
