Why Alecia Armstrong chose Plymouth
Centrally located between Killington & Okemo. We are in the heart of Vermont off historic Route 100. The property has a perfect view of the entire lake. The cottage is quaint, cozy, and charming. It is an authentic lake cottage we’ve restored, updated, and renovated all while keeping its true original charm. Sure, we have some quirks here and there, not uncommon for a historical Cottage......and oh so charming. What really sets us apart are our quaint bedrooms with high quality linens, down comforters, 100% Egyptian cotton towels and multiple amenities offered that other properties don't. The cottage is such a relaxing, calming place. We have added many "must-have" conveniences with high quality creature comforts because it needs to be that special place. We love entertaining at the cottage because the set-up is so "party friendly" and there is plenty of room for many friends to stay. The area is packed with fun things to do such as shopping in beautiful Woodstock, skiing/hiking at either Killington or Okemo, Long Trail Brewery lunches, tours & samples at the Plymouth Cheese Factory, and trips to Buttermilk Falls to name only a few. Harry's is our favorite restaurant and is less than 10 minutes down the road. Check out our FB page for the latest updates: Vermont Cottage, Alecia Armstrong, GlampCampVermont, or Vermont Cottage Lake Amherst. I inherited this property from my grandparents who built it in 1934. My grandmother was a Brown and a descendant of founding father Nathaniel Bowman Brown who 'camped at the head of Lake Amherst during the Revolutionary War.' He returned to Plymouth after the war and along with other early settlers settled the town of 'Saltash' which is now Plymouth. I believe that Nathaniel may have very well camped near or on the land that I now owns along with my husband and children.
What makes this Cottage unique
Centrally located between Okemo & Killington, beautiful surroundings, privacy, and definitely not 'cookie cutter' atmosphere. This is a family cottage that is much loved and cared for. When you come to stay you will feel like you are visiting friends and not renting a 'unit' or 'profit mill' property. Please read reviews written by our past guests.

A perfectly perfect VT experience!
Our west coast family of 4 had the most relaxing and fun getaway at this very charming cottage on beautiful Lake Amherst. This was our first taste of VT and we found it to be delightful, largely due to this cozy and hospitable lakeside cottage. As rental owners ourselves and especially because we were visiting from such a distance, we really appreciated the warm atmosphere, generous furnishings and all the toys made available to us. All we had to do was show up! We kayaked, swam, jumped on the water trampoline, sunbathed on the dock, and played croquet. With two boys a bon fire was a nightly event. We adored the spacious screened in porch for dining, morning coffee and evening cocktails. The view of the lake and surrounding mountains was captivating. The area is also a triathlete's training heaven! The owner was gracious, friendly and delivered as promised and than some. We admired how well cared for and organized the house and grounds are and made a few mental notes for our own cottages on the Cape! We had a lovely dinner at the Woodstock Inn and really enjoyed that town for its shopping and covered bridges. This location is perfectly situated within short distance of cute towns to explore and ski areas to hike or bike but frankly, once settled in it's hard to want to leave the cottage and its perch on the lake! We would recommend this cottage in a heartbeat and have already touted its praises to our friends who are looking for the quintessential New England experience.
A Perfect Getaway!
The Vermont Cottage could not have been more perfect! My husband and his buddies spent the weekend there and were raving about everything. Alecia was on top of everything and her clear instructions and willingness to make their stay as perfect as possible was just what you want in a rental owner. She even reached out to us because she wasn't sure the lake would be thawed and the boys were really hoping to do some fishing, but luckily by the time they arrived the boats were out and they were able to enjoy the lake. They even caught a few! There were plenty of boats for 6 grown men to fit and they had a blast rowing around. They all raved about the unique style and layout of the house, as well as the amazingly comfortable beds. The view was gorgeous and the property was just secluded enough that they felt like they had privacy, but was also close to stores if they needed anything. The house has all amenities that you could want and the guys enjoyed cooking both inside and out. I was definitely jealous when I saw pictures and heard stories about the weekend! Thank you Alecia for making their weekend a perfect getaway! We will be back again, with wives and families this time! :)
Perfect for Our Executive Retreat!
I can see how this home would be loved by families wanted to get away from it all. For us, we used it as a get-away from technology and the corporate life for the six of us on the executive team for a major financial institution. We spent a few days reflecting and strategizing for our organization. It was the perfect home for this roll up your sleeve kind of work in a space that allowed you to think creatively!
I would like to see more work retreats held there. Thanks for choosing Vermont Cottage for yours. Hope you can come back soon and enjoy the lake!
We are long acquainted with the area but not the lakes. We had 2 families and we had a fantastic time. It is a true camp experience with all the amenities. Plan on being efficient with your garbage as it is expected to compost and recycle which is great!! Much larger than we thought. The lake is across the road but very close. The fire pit is amazing and the owners stock the wood well. There is a gas grill and charcoal. Read their policies and you will get a very clear idea of you need to bring. VERY CLEAN!!! repeat VERY CLEAN! For an older camp house to be so clean means constant upkeep. They do it well. No complaints at all and left it as we found it easily. Alicia is very friendly and accommodating. The cell service for ATT is not present but the WiFi in and around the house is excellent. Bravo...
Thank you so much for your lovely review. You also were fantastic guests and we truly appreciated how well you took care of the cottage. You are right, if folks read the info guide provided, they will know that we have generous amenities and all folks have to bring are clothes, personal items, food.....and simply show up to begin enjoying. The small dirt road (actually the historic Revolutionary War road General Jeffrey Amherst marched on in the 1700s) now provides guests with access to the boat landing and the small Hawk Marina close by for extra boat rentals or a lake cruise with Lora on the pontoon boat. Recycling is Vermont law and composting will be mandatory by 2020, but we've always composted because we use the organic soil for our gardens. AT&T service can be added to the cell booster by contacting us and letting us know. Verizon connects automatically.
Great house with unique characteristics
Family of 6 had a great time spending the better part of a week in late August. Bedrooms were very comfortable and the yard in the back with volleyball net was fun for kids and grown ups. Bonus was the screened in bedroom.
Thank you for your kind review. Thank you for taking such good care of the cottage. We truly appreciate guests such as yourselves. Happy to hear you enjoyed the volleyball court. It's not just a volleyball court. A great surprise for most. ....and the summer sleeping porch; it's usually a favorite. :-)
Perfect bachelor weekend
The cottage was great! It had everything that was mentioned on the site, and then some. The entire property was very clean and organized. We couldn't have asked for a better place to celebrate our buddy getting married. There was plenty of space for everyone to sleep and all the beds were very comfortable. It was easy to get to, and checking in and out was a breeze. Thanks again to Alecia! She made the whole process very easy. Everyone had so much fun that I know we will be back in the future!
