Taken from Guest Feedback Sheet: Beautiful sunrise from the fantastic windowfront walk (deck). Located close to the quaint town of Southwest Harbor. Walking distance from many great shops, restaurants, the pier, etc. Very affordable price. Close enough to Bar Harbor and Acadia, yet far enough away from the hustle and bustle. Thank you for letting us stay at your beautiful home in Southwest Harbor! We had a wonderful time and will be sure to contact you when we return to Maine in the future.
We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed our stay at the Harbor Daze. The view is beautiful and the accomodations very adequate. We hiked and canoed and cooked lobsters a few days... We went to the airport and went on a glider ride-it was awesome ! We ate in town at a couple local restaurants and enjoyed the views from the deck.We did a day trip to Greenville, Moosehead Lake to look for moose and we found them- so neat and we got some great photos..
We had a terrific one-week stay in this home. The location is ideal. If you want to avoid the crowded craziness of Bar Harbor in search of a more peaceful location, Southwest Harbor is perfect. From this house, you can watch the sun rise over the harbor and then walk to the little downtown area for free Popovers at the Common Good Café, which collects donations for the soup kitchen it supports. While we were there, SW Harbor held an art festival, and you also can walk up the main street for a homemade pie or some ice cream. About a 15-20 minute drive to the Acadia NP visitor’s center.
The house itself was lovely. We are a family of 6 (3 college/hs age daughters and a 10th grade son), so the girls shared a room with three beds on the 1st floor while our son got his own room on the 2nd floor (we took the master bedroom on the 2nd floor). Two full baths and a laundry. Excellent hot tub out back, which is serviced twice a week and very clean. Well-equipped kitchen (we made three pies while we were there). Overall, an excellent place to stay and we highly recommend it.
Jane was very easy to work with and VERY responsive. The house is exactly as pictured and described situated within walking distance of small shops and eateries and right across the marina. We were disappointed however to not be able to walk out onto the piers as they were all private, something we hadn't realized or even considered. Bass Harbor Lighthouse was only a few miles down the road which we visited on more than one occasion both in the morning and sunset. The drive to Acadia was about 20-25 minutes for us even though the house is right along the Island Explorer shuttle. Typically we drove to Visitor Center and then boarded the FREE shuttle there. The hot tub was a real hit with our family as we hiked everyday and tired muscles appreciated the hot tub while watching the evening stars. During our visit it was rather warm and since there is no air conditioning, the upstairs bedrooms were a little uncomfortable even with the fans provided. Understandably the weather does not justify air conditioning but it was warm (we were there the first week of August.) This house served our needs just fine and was well stocked and very clean, thank you Jane!!
We have stayed in Southwest Harbor many times and love it. This house is beautifully kept up, amply supplied, and the responsiveness to questions or concerns is terrific. It's very close to town, which makes it easy to walk in for meals and fun. That also makes it rather noisy, as there's a lot of road traffic.
Definitely stay here again. Great restaurants and shops nearby. Easy travel to sites. Everything exactly as stated. Great communication with Jane Peabody; always in the loop! Beds very comfortable and living space great! 6 retired physical educators thoroughly enjoyed themselves! Weather fantastic!!
This house is everything we expected it to be and then some. The pictures and description of the house were spot on. Very clean, comfortable and relaxing atmosphere with easy access to Acadia and Bar Harbor. We love watching the beautiful sunrise over the ocean from the front window. This was the perfect time of year to witness the colorful fall leaves throughout Acadia NP. We would definitely stay here again!
The cottage is located in the quaint village of Southwest Harbor where you can take a stroll into town and explore unique shops, fabulous restaurants, museums, antique shops, an oceanarium, and much more. Or, walk to the marina and watch the lobstermen bring in their catch. You can even buy a fresh lobster while you are there! Rent a boat locally or take the water taxi to explore the waters and islands surrounding Mount Desert Island.
The cottage is also located just minutes from world-famous Acadia National Park, which offers crystal-clear lakes, sandy and rocky beaches, rocky shorelines, beautifully maintained hiking and biking carriage trails, mountains to hike or drive, and so much more. Opportunities for whale watching, boat rentals and charters, fishing, swimming, tennis, shopping, kayaking, hiking, and many more are within minutes.
