Fantastic Stay at the Fire Tower House
My family and I (spouse, two teenage girls, and a dog) recently spent three nights at the Fire Tower House. We wanted a bit of an escape and some "still" time - we found it. The cabin was exceptionally clean and was exactly as described. The owner, Gary, was quick to respond to our request for access instructions, but the place was set-up so well, we had no other need or reason to contact him during our stay. And the views, don't get me started on the views - the half-hour spent sipping my coffee on the last morning, before the clan woke up, just watching the snow fall across the valley in silence, was worth the entire trip.
Great Fire Tower Get Away
Fire tower is exactly as pictured in the listing: amazing 360 degree views, clean property, great location near Hot Springs. Would highly recommend! A few notes on what others have said.... A little different than your normal VRBO....We had to reach out to the owner the day before to get check in info, but he is very responsive. There is no house book with check out procedures, house info etc. You just figure it out. Also note that there is no oven or washer/dryer and we needed the space heaters to stay warm. Property is much like a very nice, beautiful cabin in the sky. With that said, highly recommend.
The property is really amazing! We loved the views and location of the tower. The ability to hike around the property and see the amazing views was a big plus. There has been a lot of thought into making this a very comfortable and well stocked rental. Really can't think of anything that we needed that wasn't there. Don't miss Moccasin Springs Spa and enjoy the wonderful healing waters.
Instructions on getting into the property weren't well communicated but resolved before we arrived.
Beautiful & I mean beautiful views of the Black Hills!
We LOVED, LOVED this cabin. It was easy to get to, extremely clean & super fun. Everything was brand new and good quality. The bottom floor was the garage with any extra items you might need. The second floor was the bedroom and the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable & the bathroom shower had good water pressure and quick hot water. The top floor was the kitchen and the living space. The furniture and appliances were all good quality. There was wifi and lots of tv channel access. The small refrigerator had more space than it appeared. There was a full size refrigerator in the garage. We brought a few things of our own as we knew ahead of time we would need the extras; small tv/dvd for the bedroom, a cot & air mattress for the kids, a crockpot, pre-cooked food, a kurig/coffee and sleeping bags.
We would highly recommend this cabin to anyone! There was a lot of thought put into this place. It felt safe and very private. There weren't a list of rules so were just respectful of their space and cleaned up after ourselves when we left. The owner was great; he replied to emails, answered my silly questions & gave us our space. Perfect. Thank you so much!
Unique Fire tower stay
We have become avid Airb&b patrons over the past several years and know that each property is unique. All seem to have the same amenities/necessities (some more, some less) and enjoy looking forward to what each place holds. The Fire Tower was a wonderful place to stay and relax. The driveway was gravel/dirt and steep with a bit of washout, so that was something to keep in mind in case there were any storms while we stayed. The views were lovely and the decor/feel of the place very nice. After an 11 hour drive we were looking forward to sitting on the deck to unwind and mellow out, but there wasn't anything to sit on, on the deck, so we sat on the futon inside and looked out the windows. We looked for a welcome book/info on the Fire Tower and the surrounding area, but there wasn't any and went into town later on to find out where to eat, etc. There were plenty of brochures on typical vacation sites, but nothing on suggestions as to where to eat, etc. The bed was very comfy and in the morning I was looking forward to some coffee fresh brewed in the lovely coffee maker, but there was no coffee or filters provided, which was a bit of a surprise. At any rate, a sheet with information about what to do with garbage; the wifi code; how to access the stereo; if using the grill where to find the utensils for it; favorite places recommended to eat; etc. would have been nice. Also, a blanket (besides the coverlet on bed), salt cellars with salt, a clean grill (much residue from prior griller and nothing to clean it with) would have been nice and building debris could be removed (backing up the car could be tricky if larger than a compact). When I come to think of $100 cleaning fee (much more than any other stay we have been at), my choice to reserve, I know, I did expect cleaner floors/windows and futon cushion surface. All in all, we did have wonderful time, but the few regular amenities that were missing, seemed a bit off.
Bundle of scenery
Everything was just as beautiful as listed with everything we needed. Listing and pictures lead us to believe nobody was close. But there is a canine right next door, which you wouldn't expect when listing as an old Firetower. Other than that, all was great!!
