Princeville House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 9-12)

From recent guests:

'Best organized and best stocked rental house ever.'

'The comfort and convenience of Hale Kipa made our trip very special. '

'This was the ideal house for our vacation'

'What a beautiful, peaceful and welcoming home it is!'

This Golf Course home is located in Princeville, home to some of Hawaii's finest resorts, golf courses, and restaurants. Princeville is also the site of three beaches, Pu'u, Kenomene Beach (Hideaways), and Kawweonui Beach (Sealodge). It is just minutes from Anini Beach, the funky town of Hanalei, and Hanalei Bay.

The equivalent of three hotel rooms in a Princeville Vacation Rental on the Makai Golf Course, for less than the cost of one nearby hotel room. For three couples, each has the privacy of their own master bedroom with ensuite bath, and also the luxury of a large living area, looking out on golf course, mountains, ocean and waterfalls, to share with family or friends. For extended families, the house accommodates up to twelve, depending on ages and relationships.

A large living area is just up the stairs of this spacious house which is 3400 sq ft under roof. Upstairs, enjoy panoramic views of fairways, mountains and waterfalls. Walk out on one of two decks, and enjoy fresh tropical evenings as the sun sets behind Bali Hai across the bay.

King size beds in two of the bedrooms and two doubles in the third. A daybed in the Living Room. Two futons for extra guests or extra family. A crib for infants. Number of people the house can sleep comfortably depends on ages and relationships. Upstairs, a 'great room' of Living, Dining, and Kitchen areas, with windows all around, and two decks. Gorgeous views of mountains, waterfalls, and golf course. Directions provided in our own 'coffee table book' to all the best restaurants, snorkeling beaches and shopping, with sample menus and comments from past guests. A fully equipped kitchen large enough for three cooks to work in harmony, or walk to one of three nearby restaurants. Fully equipped with bed, bath and beach towels and linens, beach mats, and a library of paperbacks for that 'lie on the couch and do nothing' day. Books and toys for the 'little ones'. A DVD library of movies made on the Island of Kauai.

You will have use of Sunset Drive Community Association Recreation Center across the street. This excellent facility includes a clubhouse, swimming pool and tennis court.

Guests say: 'It's a beautiful thing when a place lives up to its billing' (The Nickels, Denver, Colorado).

We have been told many times by our guests that it feels like home, not like a vacation rental, and that has been our goal.

From GOLF MAGAZINE's Gold Medal Resorts 2004-05:

Princeville Resort

Kauai, Hawaii

Shangri-la (n.) 1. A distant and secluded hideaway, usually of great beauty and peacefulness. 2. Princeville. Framed by sheer mountains that plunge into azure water, Princeville enjoys Kauai's most divine setting............................. as if the tranquil Hanalei Bay were in your own backyard. Robert Trent Jones's Prince course is a wild child, stretching 7,309 yards and often slashing its way through deep thicket. The Makai ('towards the sea') presents three nines -- the Ocean, Lakes and Woods -- that are more player-friendly. Playing early improves your chances of nabbing a patio table at the Living Room, where the sushi is always fresh and the sunsets are never less than dazzling.

You Said It: It has everything -- ocean, mountains, waterfalls.... The most opulent resort I've experienced.... The lounge at sunset might be the most beautiful place in the world.

About Hank Drayton

Retired Navy Captain Hank Drayton, and his son and daughter in law Rick and Debra share ownership. Rick and Debra, who live a mile away in Princeville keep the place beautiful, and Hank and his wife Gloria keep it full.

Hank and Gloria live half time in San Diego, CA, and half in Kailua, Oahu.

Hank Drayton purchased this house in 1989

Why Hank Drayton chose Kauai

After I retired from the Navy, I worked for Rockwell International in Orange County, CA. One day I was stuck on the freeway in the smog, thinking to myself 'Why am I here in the smog, doing about ten miles an hour, when my son lives in Paradise (Princeville, Kauai)?'

A week later, I called my son, Rick Drayton, and proposed that we get together, buy a lot in Princeville on the golf course, and build a Three Master Bedroom Vacation Rental. I had heard a Real Estate Agent there say 'I sure wish I had a three or four master bedroom house to rent!'

So we did!

And over the last 25 years we have enjoyed making about 650 sets of guests very happy that we did.

What makes this house unique

Snorkeling, basking on the beach, gazing at the amazing scenery of the North Shore of Kauai. Sitting on the front deck watching the sun set behind Bali Hai.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I went with a group of 7 individuals and stayed at Hank's place in Priceville, Kauai over the weekend of November 11th and it was amazing. Clean, beautiful place, amazing location on the north side of Kauai - and fully stocked of anything you might need to make meals at the place - saving you alot of money and getting quality time with the people you are traveling with. I will definately contact Hank the next time I come to Hawaii, either with a group or just with my husband. Thanks Hank for everything for a memorable trip on the island of Kauai.

We certainly appreciated the use of your lovely home in Kauai. We plan a yearly trip with my sister and her family, and this one was our best yet. The comfort and convenience of Hale Kipa made our trip very special.

The kids loved Hideaways Beach and the pool. The parents loved the beauty and ambience of Kauai and Princeville in particular.

Thanks for making this a trip of a lifetime.

Great family rental in Princeville.

  • 5 of 5

Comfortable, open floor plan, clean, plenty of room for the seven of us. Everything worked and there were more than enough household supplies (bedding, kitchen utensils, etc.). I would recommend to anyone, especially families as the garage had sand chairs, beach toys, fins, snorkels, reef shoes, and a huge library of beach books! Short drive to several good beaches, particularly Hanalei and Kahiliwai. Walking distance to happy hour at the Happy Talk lounge. Probably the best 3 bedrm/3.5 bathroom rental in Princeville. Owner lives nearby and is very willing to give advice and suggestions, and of course would help with any problems (which we didn't have).

Wonderful stay at Hale Kipa

  • 5 of 5

I wanted to hide this gem, but felt I needed to share with others. Our family ( 4 adults and 3 children) were quite impressed with the property. It was clean, well maintained and and enough room for all of us to spread out. There is also a homeowners pool close by. We enjoyed the golf course view and the bird watching from the deck. It was well stocked with beach chairs, boogie and surf boards. It is just a short drive to Hanalei Beach: great for boogie boarding and kayaking. Try the Hanalei Dolphin restaurant. The Princeville Center is a 5 min . drive: market, stores.

We loved our stay. Above our expections.

  • 5 of 5

The place was well designed, very roomy, clean, had all the comforts of home. The (3) bedrooms were quiet and comfortable. The location in Princeville was beautiful. My wife and I walked every morning and saw several beautiful sights every day. We used the washer and dryer quite a bit. The Wifi worked well. It took a few minutes to find the password, it was on a card that has fallen behind the TV stand. (Minor setback) Nothing to complain about. We watched some of the NBA finals on Cable TV. Several previous occupants had left all sorts of beach toys behind, we added to the stock. We didn't have a chance to golf but will definitely do so the next time we stay there. We played tennis, used the (4) boogie boards, beach chairs, beach towels. We used the BBQ to cook a couple of meals. The neighborhood was quiet. The house next door is new but empty and selling for 1.4 million. What a great place to stay!!! Hank, Rick and Debra were very accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable. We WILL stay there again and definitely will recommend this stay to our friends and family. We found plenty of nice places to eat out at and shopped at the grocery store located about 2 miles up the street. We thought it was 1,000 times better than a resort hotel and a lot less money. Wonderful visit in Kauai

  • 5 of 5

It was a great experience. We so appreciated the items in the pantry and all the things at the house that you just couldn't pack but was needed like scissors, sandwich bags, and a marker. We enjoyed the waffle maker as well. The yard was very manicured and the neighborhood was beautiful. The only negatives I would say are the lawn mowers on the golf course are operating before 6 am every morning and the bed in bedroom 2 is not comfortable and squeaks but I would Definetly stay here again. Thanks Mr. Draytron We had a wonderful vacation experience

Great deal, nice location, lacking basic ammenities

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in the golf course home. The layout was nicely laid out for our 4 adults and 1 baby. We felt like we had plenty of space and privacy. It was also nice that some basic baby items were available in the house - the crib, baby gate (although it was challenging to use), highchair, sippy cups, and toys. We enjoyed the lanai overlooking the golf course a lot as well.

Past reviews have commented on how well equipped the house was, so we had planned for that and did not buy/bring a lot of the essentials that we assumed would be available for us there. And although there were some things that were very handy to have (3 beach chairs and mats, some snorkel gear, beach towels...), we were disappointed that the rest of the home wasn't as well equipped as we had hoped. The kitchen especially was lacking in common things that would have made cooking much easier. For example: there were very limited spices/herbs (including no pepper) and condiments; the can opener was horrendous and took many tries to finally get a can open; the cookware was definitely not nonstick and had mismatching lids; there weren't any ziplock bags; the coffee maker was missing the lid, etc.

We were also very disappointed to realize that the house does NOT have wifi as it advertises. There is internet available if you bring a laptop and plug it into the modem, but there is not a router to allow for wireless internet. As we did not realize this ahead of time, we only brought an iPad with us and were unable to connect it to the internet. This was frustrating.

We were also disappointed that there was no air conditioning. Luckily we were there in May so the weather was still not too warm, but even so, the downstairs got really stuffy even with the windows open. I can't imagine that it would be at all comfortable later in the summer months.

Overall, the house was in a nice location and had a lice layout with plenty of space for our family. It was a good value, but we would have been more comfortable and happy if the house was better equipped and had the wifi that we had expected it to have.

Owner's Response: We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay in our home, but are frankly puzzled at some of your comments. There is a router, it does provide wifi in the house, and it works. We confirmed that with the guests that checked in right after you. There is no air conditioning, true, but nowhere in our listing does it state that there is. Yes, the last guest apparently used the last of the pepper, but we checked the spices in the house after the next guest left, and there was a considerable assortment - basil leaves, cilantro, crushed red pepper, ground cinnamon (2), ground oregano, chili power, ground cumin, garlic powder, roasted ground cumin, tarragon leaves, parsley flakes, paprika, and all purpose Greek seasoning, and salt. Perhaps the next guest added some of these. Our guests are continually using and adding to the supply. All the cookware has been replaced since your visit. A new manual can opener has been added. Had any of these concerns been made known to us during the visit, we could have probably solved many of them. We hope the next place you rent lives up to your expectations.
