About Deborah

Deborah and Paul Quade, Owners and Managers of Virgin Islands Campground. The best part about the Virgin Islands Campground is our guests!

Deborah purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Deborah chose Water Island

We designed, planned and built the faciltiy starting in 2005 and opened in 2007. We wanted to share our paradise in an affordable, comfortable way with as little impact as possible. Green is your stay with us.

What makes this cottage unique

Peace, beauty and adventure is what you find here on Water Island. Our welcoming community makes you feel unlike a tourist, but like a 'local'. All beaches in the Virgin Islands are public and there are many beaches on our island. There is also a cool World War II fort to explore.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My fiancé and I stayed here during the first week of August. The views are amazing, and the cabins were perfect. Each night had a great breeze that kept us from getting too hot to sleep, and the humidity was nothing we aren't already used to as we are from Louisiana. We mainly used the campground for cooking breakfast, showering, and sleeping, and that was perfect for our needs! If you're a traveler that wants a lazy boy and the evening news, this isn't for you. If you want to get the most out of your vacation, this is definitely the way. We plan on returning every year and will recommend it to anyone who wants to truly unplug and enjoy their Caribbean vacation.

Highly recommended! Thanks Sean and Deb!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a brief four nights and loved it. Relaxing, peaceful, beautiful, incredible view, nearly constant breeze, clean, comfortable beds. Rent a golf cart and roam the island! Karl was a wonderful Captain and host. Sean was terrific getting us to and from ferry dock and generally being an excellent host. We thought about St. Thomas or St. John's but with Honeymoon Beach, Heidi's, and Dinghy's...we never left the island. Already plotting a longer return visit!

Best of the Virgin Islands

  • 5 of 5

Water Island Campground was a wonderful experience we had 9 days of paradise, staying in one of the canvas cottages (this is nothing like tent camping) loved every minute even the one night of rain that the island needed so much to sustain itself was delightful, cool night with the sound of rain and thunder and not a drop in our cottage. The Hot Tub and deck area with awesome views of the sunrise over St. Thomas.

Best plan is to bring some of your food (Even frozen meat made the trip fine in a collapsible cooler in a checked bag) pick up what you need at Pueblo's before getting on the water ferry to the Island, Yes, stop at Tickles for a drink too. We also purchased a multi trip ticket for the ferry on our first trip over and used all ten trips - going into St. Thomas for Carnival (what an experience) also used the Safari taxi to get to Red Hook for only 2.00 each, then took the Ferry to St. John's for a day/nite.

Felt like we got the whole Virgin Island Experience without the hassle of all the other tourist, not to mention cost. We loved serenity of cooking at the pavilion overlooking the Cruise ships coming into port on St. Thomas and yes there are pesky mosquitoes so pack the bug spray, but if you forget there is some for use in the bathrooms, which I must say were beyond my expectations for composting toilets and solar heated showers and very clean. Also don't bother bringing shampoo, conditioner and shower gel it is all there for you to use.

Celebrating our 30th Wedding Anniversary at the VI Campground was the best decision - not to mention how helpful Paul and Deborah are but you get to know the locals, we enjoyed a day sailing with Karl and Katie, the best snorkeling off Buck Island, cocktails at Joe's Beach Bar and snacks, drinks and Movies with Heidi's. Even had Pizza Friday nite on the Island.

Honeymoon beach is a wonderful beach to sit back and watch the day go by - we toured the island by foot, so be sure to bring good walking shoes , Limestone beach , the Fort and Flamingo Point this was a GREAT VACATION DON'T HESITATE BOOK NOW!!!!

This place is just Magic!

  • 5 of 5

It doesn't get any better then The Virgin Islands Campground. My husband and I spent seven wonderful days there. We stayed in the apartment which was bright, sparkling clean and quite comfortable. The setting is absolutely beautiful. The view was unbelievable, I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed my morning coffee so much. We definitely recharged our batteries there. I can’t remember the last time I felt this relaxed and enjoyed such a perfect night's sleep. The location is fantastic...far enough away from the hustle and bustle of St. Thomas, but close enough that it's only a short ferry ride away. We had great fun exploring the island on a golf cart and loved Honeymoon Beach. Hates off to Debbie, Paul, and Allison...they were incredible hosts that provided excellent service combined with a personal touch that really makes you feel special. This place is perfect for couples of any age and families as well. CHEERS & THANK YOU for a delightfully memorable experience...We can't wait to come back again...soon!

INCREDIBLE VACATION.... 7 X!

  • 5 of 5

I have been to Virgin Islands Campground 7 times in the last few years. I think you'd be hard pressed to find anything like it, and anything like Water Island in general. The island is a gift, and Deb and Paul share that gift with their guests by creating the unique experience of luxury camping. The screened in cabins are breezy, clean and comfortable, and the pavilion is a great place to meet other guests. I love everything about this place, and if you are looking for a vacation that truly encompasses all that relaxation has to offer, call Deb and book yourself a week at this gem of a find!

The VI Campground was so ...

  • 5 of 5

The VI Campground was so wonderful. After five days, my husband and I felt renewed and invigorated. It was the perfect beginning to our two week vacation in the Virgin Islands.

The campground has all the necessary amenities. For people like me who suffer from email withdrawals, they even provided a laptop and wireless access.

To top it all off, the staff at the campground made you feel like you were visiting friends. Everyone on Water Island was friendly and greeted you.

Honeymoon Beach was a nice beach without all the crowds you will encounter on the beaches in St. Thomas. Make sure to have taste Heidi's grill chicken sandwich when you are on the beach.

Overall, staying at VI Campground was like getting the best of a campground and high price resort at the same time.

Make sure to request Cottage #1. It has the best view.
