2 Bedroom Cabin Surrounded by Beautiful Lakeshore
About Emily Bujold
After living in afar in Australia, Micronesia, and Japan and nearby in Wisconsin and Minneapolis, in busy urban centers and quietly afloat in the Pacific, the water was our grounding, our inspiration, and our source of renewal. Shortly after starting our family we began our mission to find a place on the water. After extensive searching, we realized it was just a short paddle across the lake from James’ childhood home here on Prairie Lake. We invite you to share this special place with us and soak up all the goodness the Northwoods has to offer.

Why Emily Bujold chose Grand Rapids
We love how close we are to everything while still feeling away from it all. We have lakeshore to explore and admire in all directions, ultimate access to water that beckons adventure throughout the seasons, a humbling connection with the wildlife, and a peaceful place to spend time with friends and family. We're just five miles from shops and dining in downtown Grand Rapids to the south and less than 10 miles from the National Forest to the north. Entrance to the Taconite Trail and Mesabi Trail, one of the longest paved trails in the nation, is less than two miles away. Access to numerous, well-maintained cross-country ski trails within 15 minutes. Direct access to the nearest snowmobile trail via the lake. The bait shop, convenience store and public boat access are just a half mile away.
What makes this Cabin unique
Prairie Lake is a calm lake with little boat traffic. It really is a treasure for paddle sports, fishing, sunset pontoon rides and other passive activities, with quiet shorelines and places for exploration, such as small bays and The Gorge. And when you do want to get out water skiing, you have the place to yourself.

Peaceful and lovely
Owners made the rental and check in process super easy. Unit was clean, pretty well stocked and check out was a breeze. Location was nice and quiet. Wish the weather had been a tad bit warmer. :-)
A bit disappointed.
We are elderly and like to keep up on the news etc.,we were unable to get much of anything. The water smell was horrible, we went out and bought water. The cabin was clean and comfortable.
Sorry you were disappointed Pat. We do note in the listing that the TV does not have local service and that your own streaming services are required. It sounds like I should emphasize this in several places, I know it's easy to miss these details in the listing. Yes, we do have hard water. We test annually to ensure its safe to drink and the cold water is carbon filtered which takes out a lot, but not all, of the iron taste. Some people are more sensitive to the taste and smell of hard water than others so we are installing a softener this fall in the hopes that it cuts back on our guests' bottled water usage. I hope your review can be helpful to others, as we strive for our listing to align with an audience that will enjoy our place.
Perfect up north getaway!
Our family spent 4 nights in Cabin 2 (two kids under 6, 2 adults) and had the best time at this beautiful location! We’ve rented many VRBOs and Emily and her family have gone the extra mile in making their property stand out (complimentary firewood, charcoal, kayaks and canoes, TP/towels/trash bags etc provided). We also enjoyed an easy 90min day trip to Itasca and Duluth. I can’t think of a better fishing spot for kiddos - we could barely get one fish off our hook before our sons reeled the next one in. No AC is no problem, fresh cool lake air made for ideal sleeping weather. WiFi is super fast should you need to connect. Looking forward to our (already booked!) return trip for next year.
Perfect for a ladies weekend getaway!
Clean, quiet, and cozy lake property! The cabin was stocked with anything you could need. It was just a short drive into downtown Grand Rapids. It was literal perfection.
Lovely retreat on a quiet lake
I and 3 friends stayed 3 nights and really enjoyed it. Emily and James were so friendly and helpful when we had questions about our cabin and restaurants in the vicinity.
Great Lake Vacation
We were familiar with the location before renting this spot, and were thrilled with the comfort and cleanliness of the beautiful cabin. Comfortable bed and great kitchen, living area, beach, picnic table and deck chairs. It was a perfect getaway and right across the lake from our family who lives nearby. We hope to stay there again...and again...and again! Wonderful hosts, Emily and James, as well. Thank you!
