Guestbook comments from the owner

I am writing this in regards to my stay at Casa Paz Y Amour, located at 9100 Luna Del Oro Albuquerque, NM 87111. I booked my stay for July 14 to July 26, 2013 and I’ve truly enjoyed it here. The house is spacious with many different patios for all to enjoy. All the rooms have plenty of space to relax and sleep comfortably. The host, Dr. Lopez is very friendly, gracious and accommodating. She truly makes one feel welcomed. The backyard has several different seating; relaxing arrangements from hammocks to a Jacuzzi. The trees also provide shade if one wants to sit on the grass. The house is a true gem with beautiful architecture and artwork. It’s definitely a great place to stay in Albuquerque.

Unexpected Experience

  • 1 of 5

I had arranged to rent the entire house and filled each room with family and friends so that we can stay together without the worry of strangers since some of us had little ones. I did just that however we didn't pay for the living room and when guest had to move from the converted garage due to cooling and electricity issues to sleep in the living room we were reprimanded and said we did not pay for the living room so no one could sleep there. (that was a little unsettling for me since I had arranged for the entire house-no one else was going to sleep there and considering the circumstances it should not have been an issue) The cleanliness of the house was not up to our standards but with a house of this size and there being something literally everywhere it would be hard to keep clean. The "casita" was a disappointment to say the least. It just was hard to enjoy ourselves with the home owner/manager living on site walking through the premises what seemed to me looking for something to point out to us that was not "right". We had guest feel so uncomfortable they left and stayed someplace else the second night. The pictures are not accurate and there are tons of "art" all over the place and by "art" I mean religious pagan idols. All in all we would not stay here again. I am so disappointed in this rental coming off an amazing experience this summer from another vacation rental.

Owner's Response: Unusual and Disrespectful Guests First no one rents this entire house unless it is a for a commercial, TV show or movie and they pay a great deal more than these guests who actually were given a discount in response in part to the organizers lament that some of her family and friends were not able to afford our regular balloon fiesta rates. We chose to do this so that we can support the reunion of friends and family for memorable reconnection. The facts do not reflect any of the comments. This guests rented the five private rooms as well as a little casita and space in the studio and one of the great rooms. She did not rent both great rooms. People rent out the rooms and beds and have use of the rest of house"s common areas , gardens and hot tubs. . There were no issues regarding cooling in the studio , however the guests did not request the information as to how to turn on the refrigerate air so moved into another room which had not been reserved or paid for. When they asked about it they were shown and moved back to their original space. At the Casa there is always 24 hour access to information regarding guests needs or questions which these guests chose not to utilized. All guests are sent both a virtual tour as well as directed to the website which shows all the rooms, the gardens, common areas and art in the space, the house is filled with both fine art and folk art from all over the world. I have an active art studio on the property and am a juried contemporary santera and folk artist. I show in galleries, the Spanish Market in Santa Fe, The New Mexico Arts and Kraft's fair . One of the guests had the audacity to remove more than eight of my paintings from the walls in a common great room turn them around and put them on the floor. They also turned around twelve niches(altars) that are displayed on a long cabinet. There are " no religious pagan idols " or images of any kind in my home. There are praying monks from Thailand, masks from Mexico, Bali, Indonesia, and India, paintings of Guadalupe, and images of the Divine Feminine as well a a myriad of contemporary artists work. . I have posted a few of the accused , Pagan idol images for you to see the insanity , lack of awareness and ungrounded comments. . Please feel free to go to houseofpeaceandlove.com and see more photos of the art. These folks were very unusual, uneducated, clearly misinformed and bigoted guests. Please don't leave any comments that attacks a persons religion/race.

WHAT A WONDERFUL, EXTRAORDINARY EXPERIENCE!

The House of Peace and Love truly lives up to its name. Suzanne is a remarkable woman and make you feel absolutely welcome and cared for. The entire place evokes warm, southwestern hospitality - and spirituality, sophisticated yet so comfortable. Plus the surrounding locale is truly lovely as well, striking and magnificent. My only regret is not staying twice as long!

Disappointed

  • 1 of 5

Spent a week at the house of "peace and love". Was told by the owner that we would be the only party at the house for that week. Three days in we had to move 2 people out of one bedroom because she has a returning client come in for the remainder of the week. She advertises a "casita" which is nothing more than a Tuff Shed with 2 small beds. There was no electricity to the "casita" so no lights or air conditioning due to a "wind storm". We ended up with 4 people sleeping in her "studio" which was nothing more than a converted garage. There were dead cockroaches and crickets on the floor and had to ask her to vacuum before we slept there. The swamp cooler to the "studio" garage sounded like a freight train - hard to sleep when it was on. House is eclectic but not clean by most standards. Refrigerator in "studio" garage where we kept our food smelled awful. We cleaned it before using. I will say the yard is beautiful. Hot tub needed repair but we had use of it 5 out of the 7 days. Owner was accommodating with our team bbq of 25 people. Would not return.

Owner's Response: As an owner, this response is extremely shocking This group of young women athletes were given a significantly discounted rate for their accommodations. Prior to their arrival I had a pest control company come and spray the outside gardens. I was unexpectedly called out of town. A wind storm /monsoon struck and power was knocked out of the casita. The regular rate is reduced in the casita and the studio. Please view the photos of the casita and studio on the site. Both are delightful. The casita , is a lot of space , insulated, carpeted with electricity and air conditioning. The studio is a large four car and RV converted space also insulated, carpeted with skylights, a swamp cooler, built in desk, cabinets and a double refrigerator next to a functioning art studio with a separate entrance. Both spaces are less than private rooms and were discounted on top of that. My 22 yr old daughter checked them in and had to put them in the studio . She didnt check for the bugs nor wipe down the refrigerator. When I returned and was told I apologized and rectified the situation my daughter had created as well as invited them to have their party without charge for 35 people without a cleaning fee. When they reserved the Casita there were no other reservations. However, when they checked in they put themselves in a private room that they hadn't paid for. I did not ask them to move however when I got another reservation for the private room I needed to do so. I would not have rented to a man since I had an estrogen household. I was a regular female guest who comes monthly for business. While here these guests said repeatedly that they were having a good time with the exception of losing their matches and an injury on the team. Their response was extremely unfair and equally disappointing in our effort actually and financially make up for any inconvenience.

Not What We Expected

  • 1 of 5

First, let me say that this IS NOT a child friendly home. If you have children, this is not the rental for you. There is stuff everywhere and I was surprised in the 24 hours that we were there that nothing was broken.

We spend a lot of money to stay in this home during Balloon Festival week. We were told that we would be the only one's renting the home which was extremely important to us as we had 4 children under the age of 4 with us and 4 families. When checking in we were informed that there would be multiple other people/couples coming and going from the home at various times. This was NOT agreed upon and we were not given notice. After driving 8-12 hours from various states, we were then told this info. This made several of the families so uncomfortable that we then left and no refund was given. We had to go rent 2 more houses last minute just to have somewhere to stay.

Also, the hosts office is in the middle of the home and is open air. This was uncomfortable for us as we could hear her business conversations and she was also constantly overhearing our conversations and would input her opinion unasked.

I guess just go into this rental knowing it's transient nature and that the "host/owner" of the property is always there and unwilling to work with customers that find they are unsatisfied or when contract is broken.

Nice accommodations but with a few flaws.

  • 4 of 5

Positive--House was beautiful and full of character. Plenty of room to spread out, both indoors and outdoors. Had full use of kitchen and laundry room.

Negative--Mix-up in number of rooms, but owner made up for that by letting our two teenagers sleep in the game/living room. Also, could not get outdoor grill to work, even though had called ahead to make sure there was one available. House has several pieces of art displaying nudity, including male genitalia, so some might not consider appropriate for children/young teenagers. Lastly, owner lives in the house, and other people can rent rooms at the same time, so depending on your situation this might be undesirable...
