Quiet Cottage in the Woods a Half Mile from Ogunquit Center.

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was a nice escape from the busy center of town. It is in a wooded neighborhood so there is privacy. It is on a quiet dead end street a half mile from the center of town. We walked into town for dinner and to the main beach. Its about a mile from the dog park. The cottage has comfortable furniture and beds. The room shown on the listing with two twin beds has been changed. It now has a bunk bed with a full size bed on the bottom and a twin on top. The other bedroom on the first floor has a queen as does the bedroom upstairs, which also has a sliding door to a small elevated deck. The cottage was very bright and nicely decorated. There was plenty of parking. We sat out on the open front deck one night while looking at the stars and were not bothered by bugs which was nice.

The kitchen was small but well stocked with dishes, glasses, cooking gadgets, etc. The cottage could use new frying pans. One is missing a handle and the other large one is a badly scratched non-stick pan that doesn't sit flat. The coffee maker is confusing (it seems to be a commercial model). The wifi was very good. The water pressure was good and there was plenty of hot water. Having two bathrooms was convenient. There is a washer and dryer in the shed attached to the back of the cottage. The bath towels were thin and looked dingy which was disappointing. The sheets were good though.

There were beach towels in a basket in the cottage and there were some beach chairs, an umbrella, a Boogey Board and some sand toys in the detached shed. I don't know how functional these things were since we didn't use them (we brought our own).

One other issue was that when we first got there it smelled of garbage inside but the waste basket was empty and had a clean bag in it. After awhile I realized that the small pail for recycling in the kitchen closet had a lot of dried residue in it, likely from people not rinsing items before throwing them in. I used hot water and a liquid cleaner that was under the sink and got the smell out (I drew the line at scrubbing it though). I was a bit annoyed that whoever cleaned the cottage before our arrival hadn't dealt with the obvious odor.

I would have given the cottage 5 stars if the towels were nicer, the frying pans were in better condition and if the cottage didn't smell when we arrived. I did not complain to the owner about these issues while we were there so I cannot comment on his responsiveness

Owner's Response: I was not aware of the broken frying but I will purchase several new ones this week. The towels are the same as what I use at home but I will look for a higher quality towel and replace those. I will ask the cleaning company to rinse the recycle bins between guests. Great feedback, thank you.

Very Comfortable

  • 4 of 5

My family had a great week in this cozy, clean house! Lots of options for eating inside or out! Loved the extra beach chairs and boogie boards for the kids. It is a bit of a walk to the beach coming home up hill, but we worked that out by one of us walking back to the house and getting the car to pick everyone up. Loading areas at the beach made this easy with all our gear!

Great vacation home!

  • 3 of 5

Really enjoyed staying here! Everything was clean and in good working order. Fresh towels and linens. We stayed for the 4th of July week and had an absolute ball. The only reason I wouldn't give this property 5 stars is because it was advertised (in the pictures) as having a hot tub included. When we made our initial decision to stay here, we expected a hot tub to be included. I feel as though a hot tub adds some intrinsic value to the property and when I found out the property did not have a hot tub, I spoke with the owner. He told me that he was willing to refund my deposit, but at that point I had already taken the time and effort it takes to find a suitable rental and was not willing to start from scratch. I asked for a discount on the weekly rate and was declined. The owner did take down pictures portraying the rental as including a hot tub after my complaint so that others will not also think this property contains a spa.

What a great place to stay!

This cottage was great and John was very quick to respond to everything! Only about a 10 minute walk to the center of town this cottage was beautifully decorated and had everything you could possibly need! Highly recommended.

The cabin was comfortable and excellent for our group of six and our little dog.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this cozy cabin. The living area was inviting and conveniently located, as it is close to the kitchen. The living room and screen porch are very comfortable. The ammenities were as described, with the exception of the hot tub (it was not working). We loved having the washer/dryer to keep our packing lighter! We, also, had temperatures in the 80s & 90s and having air conditioners in each bedroom was wonderful! Our dog frolicked in the yard and the neighborhood is quiet great for taking any dog for walks. We walked to town a few times and the walk is reasonable for anyone who enjoys a 10-15 minute walk. We appreciated the beach chairs and towels for our beach days.

Owner's Response: Unfortunately the 15 year old hot tub broke over the winter so I removed it as an amenity on the website but unfortunately some people reserved the house during the winter when it was listed as available. Thank you for the feedback.

perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

my husband & i along with our dog enjoyed ourselves immensely this past weekend, so much so that we're looking toward another stay either in late summer or early fall.

the house was well maintained and spotlessly clean upon our arrival. all of the furniture seemed newer and was very comfortable, the decor was beachy without being tacky or touristy (someone has a nice eye for color!) the living area was a bit on the small side but if you're doinga beach vacation you shouldn't be indoors anyway. there is a hot tub on the property, we didn't use it. there are neighbors fairly close by to either side but neither home was occupied when we were there so it was very quiet!

our favorite part of the house was the deck off the master bedroom. there's a small table and chairs out there, perfect for coffee or cocktails!

there is a dog park nearby and town is a sort walk away and ogunquit is very dog friendly so Sammy was welcome nearly everywhere we went. we opted to bring food in so as to not leave sammy alone. we felt as comfortable as we are at home!

thanks john for sharing your place, it was great!
