Retired professionals who love the island and have vacationed on Nantucket for more than 40 years and have retired to the island.
Dr. Robert Sarvis purchased this cottage in 1982
The cottage has all of the advantages of being in-town, yet you have the privacy and quite of the conservation area that surrounds the property. You can walk to downtown and all of Nantucket's great restaurants. The conservation area has wonderful hiking paths where you will see all of the native birds. Two cardinals have lived in our hydrangeas for many years. The privet enclosed backyard is private and safe for children with beautiful gardens full of hydrangeas and roses, and sheltered by an antique oak tree.
The cottage is centrally located within the Nantucket Historic District. The Old Mill and other historic sites are nearby. All beaches are easily walked or biked to. The bike path across the street connects with all of Nantucket's wonderful bike paths, making biking all over the island convenient and safe for children and adults alike. While there is off street parking for two cars, a car is not a necessity. Grocery shopping is a short walk. A bus stop is at the end of the street. Nantucket's seasonal bus transportation takes you to all areas of the island like Siasconst and Madaket.
The cottage is great! Quite and private yet a short walk to downtown and beaches. Well appointed and maintained. We highly recommend. 11 out to 10!
House warm, cozy, clean! Close to town, and just perfect for a family to enjoy, lots of privacy !
This house is amazing! We were taking a girls trip to celebrate a 60th and this house was the highlight of the trip. It is so naturally cozy and you feel at home immediately. The rooms and baths were spacious and clean and the yard (especially the backyard) was magnificent... you felt like you were in an English garden! But by far, the most impressive aspect of the home to me was the incredible artwork (done by the owner, no less) that gave the cottage that tangible warmth. Since this was the first time I used VRBO, I had many questions and Dr. Sarvis always responded immediately and was so very helpful! I would recommend this cottage to all whether it's a short weekend or staying for several weeks in the summer as it is definitely worth it, especially being so close to town! Thank you for a lovely stay and looking forward to a return trip!
(Best of all, the owner of this home responded within 24 hours when I was trying to book on-line last January! ) My family and grandchildren had a beautiful stay in this lovely home. The gardens were beautiful and in bloom in September! Though in town, the house was quiet and secluded, since behind the house is a nature preserve. On the left side of the house is a large empty park that was clear and mowed, but was very quiet with no playground or sport equipment. The house was clean and comfortable. Everything was in good working order. The location was very convenient. Some of us chose to walk into downtown several times instead of drive to visit the restaurants and shops. The main grocery store on the island was close by. The house contained everything we needed including wifi. The cell phone service was good. I would love to come back to stay here again.
I rented this house for a wedding on the island. It is very well kept and is stocked with everything. We were surprised at how lovely it was considering that it was so reasonable to rent. The backyard is breathtaking! A quaint little gem!
We had an outstanding time in this house, even with cold rainy weather. The heat was fast and plentiful, the house beautifully appointed and the proximity to restaurants and shopping was fine. There were four of us, and there was plenty of space to spread out. We went to three fabulous restaurants within a mile of the house (Sea Grill, Downyflake and Fusaros) and easily walked into town to shop and dine. In town we dined at The Rose and Crown, and Brotherhood of Thieves. We never had a bad meal, the Sea Grill was outstanding. The beds were comfortable, the house was sparkling clean, the owner was highly responsive when we had questions and the setting is unbelievable. The house looks out onto protected land, lovely and quiet.
Stroll through beautiful conservation lands and bird sanctuary on your way to town. Just a short five-minute walk to Main Street and in-town restaurants, shops, and grocery. The Old Mill and other historic sites are close. Bike path connecting to Surfside, Jetties, other beaches as well as the rest of the island is nearby. Private back yard with wonderful gardens and large stone patio. Off street parking for two cars.
