Wonderful quiet spot in the medieval quarter of Evora
My experience in Casas da Mouraria was 100% positive. The apartment was quiet, colorfully decorated, and very well-located. Jorge and Ana were extremely helpful, and went out of their way to make my visit good. Highly recommended.
A quiet haven but a short walk to the ancient wall and churches.
A full length mirror! We've stayed in five vacation rentals and haven't seen lower than my chest until this week. 😊 But thank goodness walking in Evora and Portugal in general balanced the little nata pastries we ate daily.
The apartment is well equipped and after a day of wandering we were thankful for the comfy bed.
The artwork was fun. Our general impressions: Evora has Excellent ancient sites. Close to the apartment the streets narrow and become quiet. Enter the property gate and another change: it feels like a small community. For example The older woman who has lived in one of the apartments for many years loves to care for her plants. A grad student was quiet but we enjoyed watching her leave for class. We loved sitting at the little table outside out apartment, drinking coffee, playing double solitare and feeling part of this wonderful world. As dark approached quiet descended on the tiny complex and we headed out for dinner.
Turn right out on the street and a lovely park soon appears. Turn left at the park and there's a bakery and very good restaurant. (We had lamb two times each prepared differently) Across the street and a bit further to the left there's a small grocery store. On the other hand if you cross the park and go slightly right another restaurant favored by locals is a colorful experience. Both begin filling up after 8 PM
Jorge and Marta went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable.
And there are bikes for those who aren't afraid of riding on cobblestones and have the stamina the surrounding hills require. For us walking was enough to almost balance out the wonderful pastries we ate every day. Don't miss the little nata filled filo cups.
Overall a very good experience. Judy and Alex
Sweet stay in an historic city
Just staying inside Evora's walls is a thrill. This apartment was well furnished, near good eating and the hosts were genial and helpful.
Great Apartment and Location
This apartment was on a cute alleyway street inside a cuter alcove of apartments. It has everything we needed including a yummy bottle of wine! My only con was the parking was pretty far away as the street is reserved for residents only.
Very nice property close to all the sights. Jorge is very knowledgeable about the area and made some excellent suggestions. He also went above and beyond to assist us with a medical mishap we had. The apartment was small but sweet and had all that we needed for our stay. Thanks again Jorge.

Évora, a historic city in the heart of Alentejo, is heir to a rich and varied cultural heritage, built and preserved over time. Founded by the Roman people and called Ebora this Liberalitas Iulia, the city was the stronghold that its foundations, in Beyond the Tagus, the formation of the new kingdom of Portugal during the Christian Reconquista peninsular century. XII. After consolidation of the borders with Castile, several kings here fixed his court, particularly in the period of maritime discoveries, at which proudly exhibited titles and landlords in such distant lands as Guinea, Ethiopia, Arabia, Persia and India.
The historical and artistic heritage that today is preserved in the city resulted in good measure this long stay of the Portuguese monarchy. The monumental set that these golden times bequeathed to the city, in harmony with the urban fabric of popular nature, underlie the Evora classified as World Cultural Heritage since 1986.
In addition to this unique heritage in the country, the region around Évora has much more to offer the visitor. This applies to the unique megalithic archaeological landscape, one of the oldest and monumental in Europe, perfectly integrated into the surrounding countryside, that the megalithic enclosure Almendres is the pinnacle.
Is interwoven in the medieval streets, in the exuberance of palaces, monasteries and churches in the living spaces and tasting the exquisite tastes of traditional cuisine, Évora hides the attractiveness of the ancient cities. But on this historical matrix it resumes, again, as a regional face development hub to the great challenges of the future by creating large equipment, focus on the qualification of products and excellent services in the field of tourism, the intense cultural offer, together with the creation of urban infrastructures that give priority to the welfare of its inhabitants.
For all these reasons the tourist and visitor will find in Évora an exceptional cultural heritage, coexisting in harmony with the country's best quality of living standards. Many motives for not help to know and find out ... and certainly want to return.
