THE SHELTER ON HATTERAS is the ultimate getaway home. Our immaculate Hatteras home has all of the comforts you'd expect. This is our second home, not a cookie-cutter rental. I keep the calendar up to date, so if the week you want shows as being open, it probably is available.

Google the address to see the great location. 58213 Woodall Way, Hatteras Village NC 27943. Ours is the first house on the left on Woodall Way, across the street from Teach's Lair Marina/Restaurant and the walk to the beach boardwalk only takes about 2 minutes.

You will be walking distance to the Hatteras Landing shops where you can dine, shop and play. If you have 4wd, you can purchase an off road permit at the National Park station, to drive on the beach where you can explore and discover your own private beach!

You will be in the heart of Hatteras Village with all of its charm and adventure. You will be within a short walk of the Ocracoke ferry, four to five restaurants, unique shopping, three marinas, The Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, and the most un-spoiled beach on the East Coast.

The famous Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is only a few miles away.

A huge outside cedar-lined shower and mirrored dressing area. Free High-speed WI-FI Internet so bring your laptop or ipad. Flat screen TVs with digital cable in the living room and master bedroom.

Fish cleaning table, where you can prepare your days catch for dinner.

Several marinas, including Hatteras Landing, Teach's Lair Marina, Hatteras Harbor Marina, and Oden's Dock have headboats and charter boats available to take you fishing in the sound, inlet or the beautiful blue waters of the Gulf Stream. Scuba diving charters for exploring the many shipwrecks off our coast are also available, as well as para-sailing and dolphin and eco-tours.

The SHELTER is about 100 yards from Teaches Lair Marina. You can book your fishing trip or just visit before 4pm to see the days catch. The typical catches are blue marlin, sailfish, dolphin, red drum, wahoo, kings and spanish, bluefish, tuna, and grouper.

Another popular family activity is to take the from Hatteras Village to Ocracoke Island and explore the quaint fishing village. Ocracoke was named the Nations #1 beach for 2007. As a guest of THE SHELTER you are only seconds away from the free ferry.

USA Today named Hatteras Island one of top ten best beaches in all of the US! and I heard recently that Hatteras has also been named in the Top 10 Most Romantic beaches.

The Outer Banks were the first part of the Atlantic to be visited by English settlers, principally Sir Walter Raleigh’s expedition in the 1580’s.Through centuries of isolation the people inhabiting the outer banks have developed a way of life all their own. Hatteras near its southern tip is within 12 miles of the Gulf Stream is known as “Game Fish Junction” because abundance of northern and southern species of fish. It is off Cape Hatteras that the Labrador Current collides with the warm tropical water of the Gulf Stream.

COME ON DOWN,relax, fish and swim on North Carolina’s Outer Fringe at 'THE SHELTER ON HATTERAS' where you can get away from it all.

The Shelter is the perfect vacation home. It was so comfortable and had everything we could ever need. It was truly one of the best beach vacations that we have ever had. The owner is very nice and checked in with us on the day we arrived just to make sure everything was okay.

The property was well maintained. It was within easy walking distance of the beach, restaurants.

My husband and I stayed at the Shelter with our two adult children, son-in-law and 2 grandchildren. The property was clean, well maintained and worked very well for us. Being located at the more southern end of the Outer Banks, there was less traffic and it had a less commercial feel to it than some of the properties further north. I would recommend having a car if you want to see things that are not within walking distance, however. We looked at the Hatteras Lighthouse, the Wright Brothers monument and lots of art galleries. We took the ferry to Orcacoke one day. Be prepared to wait in line if you do that. It was interesting to see the other island, however.

We ate in some and dined out some. The kitchen is well equipped if you want to cook. There are good restaurants with excellent seafood close by as well. We also enjoyed the outdoor shower!

I would recommend this property to families. Amy, the owner, was responsive to the questions I had. We had a fun stay.

We really enjoyed staying at the Shelter. We will definitely go back. The place is very clean and is decorated so cute. We loved the swings that you could hang on the deck. Amy was wonderful in answering my questions. I highly recommend staying at the Shelter!!!

The Shelter

  • 4 of 5

The Shelter was terrific... Lots of touches that you don't usually find in a rental!!!

And the owner Amy was beyond accommodating.. The coffee maker was a little tricky but instead of just giving instructions... She bought us a new one for pick up at the local hardware store....

Our only downfall was the weather... Lots of rain and then the threat of the hurricane... We had to leave a few days early .. However, Amy called to check on us and OFFERED a refund or another stay when the weather was better... Incredible!!!! We will definitely return for more R&R... Teresa
