About Emma Flint

We have 3 children and a friendly black labrador. We live next door to New Barn but there is plenty of space for everyone in the large garden.

Emma Flint purchased this house in 2011

Why Emma Flint chose Salisbury

We have lived in the area for many years but we moved to Broad Chalke in 2011 so that we could be closer to Salisbury and schools for our 3 children. The village is a very friendly community and we quickly found ourselves involved with the village tennis club, shop and village hall. One of our daughters spent Easter helping a local farmer with lambing.

What makes this house unique

New Barn and Mead House are located in a wonderful setting facing due south. We have beautiful views over the water meadows across the River Ebble to the village church. You can walk or cycle direct from the property with a choice of dozens of different tracks and paths to explore. Alternatively, take a stroll through our enchanting village to the watercress beds to buy fresh watercress and some free range eggs or local honey.

Nice accommodation

  • 4 of 5

Clean comfortable, nice quiet location. Emma and Henry very welcoming and helpful. Convenient for village shop and pub. Downside - family use the entrance to their home, next to the annexe and can be noisy, although we did understand a family member was going to university and it was a busy time, getting everything organised. Dining table quite large, could be smaller to make room for another chair/sofa. Being of the older generation a tea pot and a jug would be useful!

A lovely cottage in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

We were very happy with the accommodation which was clean, comfortable and in a beautiful location. Emma and Henry (and Tattie) gave us a warm welcome and were more than helpful if we needed anything. We particularly enjoyed sitting in the sunny gardens looking out over the pretty village and liked that we could just pop down the road for tea and cake or steak and ale!

Wiltshire is a very picturesque county with access to a range of different activities that even kept two teenage boys occupied. Between fossil hunting in Dorset, wandering around Avebury and testing a local brewer's cider we all had something to do. Our only complaint is that we did not have longer to explore. We will certainly return.

Lovely cottage, lovely location - not private though

  • 3 of 5

We ended up enjoying our stay, lots of place to explore nearby and very peaceful. However, for other visitors be aware of a few things:

The cottage is attached to a main house and shared gardens. We booked it thinking it was detached and secluded. However, when you open the main bedroom curtains you have the main driveway with owners cars as a view and they can walk pass and look in (not that they did). We just has to think twice about our privacy as a couple and that slightly took away from the experience.

There is no mobile reception and limited WiFi. There is no living area or TV/lounge. We brought our iPad but the WiFi was not strong enough to watch movies or TV. The owner provides a manual to the house, it says not to download movies and use up the Wifi. Also to not have baths and use the shower only.

Also, there is a small starter kit when you get there. Would recommend doing a shop for sponges, towels, coffee, bin liners.

For someone advertised as luxury it did seem a bit cheap on some accounts. I did discuss with the owner Emma, who was really receptive to feedback.

Overall summary, this cottage is delightful is you accept it is an annexe attached to main house, it is not a luxury experience/accommodation in my view. You are paying for nice location and cosy space.

Cosy, beautiful, well equipped

  • 5 of 5

We immediately felt at home. A beautiful, cosy place, clean, well equipped, huge garden. Very quiet surroundings and yet a lot of attractions near by. The landlords were very helpful and gave us some good suggestions where to go and what to do.

We'd happily stay there again

Great modern property and friendly

  • 5 of 5

Mead House is a lovely modern country cottage in the village of Broad Chalke which has a great little shop and pub. The cottage had all the mod cons plus Emma made sure we had a cot for our 1 year old (there's also a high chair too). There's a large lawn with trampoline and football goal which keeps bored kids entertained for a short while. The location is brilliant for Salisbury, New Forest and lots of other attractions - we went to Monkey World on one day out.

Overall, really happy with our choice and would highly recommend this property to others. Many thanks Emma and family.

Great find!

  • 5 of 5

Emma and her husband could not do enough to make our stay more comfortable. The barn is clean, cosy and felt just like home.... lovely gardens to relax in were a bonus

Broad Chalke itself offers a great country U.K. experience. Thatched houses, nice pub and stunning views.
