well kept cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Crimson Cottage for a week in August. The cottage is vintage adorable. It is very neat and clean and has everything you could want. It is a short walk to downtown. The weather was oppressive the entire week and I think a fall or early winter trip may be more suitable. Regardless, coming home to the cottage was very comforting. We spent our days high in the mountains of Dupont, Mitchell and the Blue Ridge. We visited waterfalls, forests and beautiful vistas. The location is a good stopping point for stomping around towns and mountains. We indeed had plenty to do outside of Chimney Rock. Sharon is delightful to deal with and makes the process quick and easy. We had no problems at all at the cottage and she is in touch if you need her. Take advantage of a dinner at the Veranda in the Lake Lure Inn. We never got to swim in Lake Lure because of the rain and weather but it looks lovely. We did get to enjoy other adventures however since you are in diving distance to everything you could want in the mountains.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for writing such a wonderful review of Crimson Cottage. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay, in spite of our not-so-perfect weather! Sounds like you thoroughly enjoyed our mountains and took in a lot of sights. Hope to see you again soon - perhaps in the fall when the weather is crisp and cool and the foliage is gorgeous. Best wishes to you and your family, Sharon and Heather

This home is perfect! We had 3 couples and the space was very sufficient. Just a short walk to all the shops in Chimney Rock and very close to Lake Lure as well. Highly recommend this home!

First family (summer) vacation in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

Our family typically vacations at the beach in the summer and long weekend getaways in the mountains. However, this year we decided to change things up and have our summer vacation in the NC mountains. We have 2 children, a 9 yr old daughter & 7 yr old son. This makes our 3rd trip to Chimney Rock but our first time staying in Crimson Cottage. From the online reservation, I knew the upstairs game room would be a hit with the kids (and it was!). They loved having their own space and lots of games. I can't say enough good things about the cabin. It is spacious and feels like home. Plenty of hot water and A/C works great. It's nice that we could wash clothes in their modern W/D. The beds were very comfy and the location is fantastic. We loved being able to walk over the bridge and into town in less than 30 seconds! One of the kids' favorite things to do was take their shoes off and climb on the rocks at the River Walk in town. It's free entertainment for them and nice for dad and I to relax while they are exploring and enjoying the outdoors. We grilled out one night with the grill provided and had planned on making a fire in the pit to roast marshmallows but it was so very hot that we decided that would be a better thing to do in the fall. We had dinner our first night at Old Rock Cafe (we'd been there before). My husband had a cheeseburger and the rest of the week kept thinking about going back for another one, so we did on another night. We enjoy the outdoor seating and friendly staff at Old Rock. The management company was very professional, kind, and accommodating. We would love to stay at Crimson Cottage again the future. If you're researching and wondering if this cabin would be a good fit for your family, believe me, it is!

Owner's Response: Wow! What a wonderful review. You covered it all and we can't thank you enough for taking the time to write such an extensive review of Crimson Cottage. We agree it has a great location and the upstairs game room is a hit for kids of all ages. Glad you got to enjoy the River Walk on the Rocky Broad River. Next time, you must put zip lining at Canopy Ridge Farm on your agenda. Thanks again for being such wonderful guests and we hope to see you again in the fall when you can use the fire pit. Perfect for a family

  • 5 of 5

My family and extended family stayed here for a fall wedding in the mountains. There were tons of games to play and entertain kids. It was a PERFECT location, right at the base of Chimney Rock and next to the river. We listened to the river from the cottage. There was so much room! It was clean and convenient to shopping (just a walk across a bridge). The manager was so helpful, even with our really late check in. We would love to stay here again. I would definitely recommend it, especially for families.

Great location

  • 5 of 5

We were visiting our children on their fall break from Furman University and Virginia Tech..The location of this cottage was perfect....a very short walk to Chimney Rock center and Lake lure was only a mile away...We rarely used our car....We did so much during our 4 night stay, mini golf, kayaking, zip lining, apple picking in Hendersonville(less than a15 minute drive to the nearest orchard) and traveling to Asheville, about a half hour or so away..This is an older home with a very small kitchen, the dining room was a nice size and the rest of the cottage was spacious and accommodated our large group well...Crimson cottage is near a river making it is a little musty but has working air conditioning that helped clear the air...The bedrooms were very nice and there were also pullout couches in the living room, plenty of room for everyone to sleep comfortably...The huge upstairs was great and the kids had fun hanging out in their own private area, playing games and watching movies...We loved the yard and the veiw from the backyard facing the cliff is beautiful! The house is in a neighborhood but the yard is big and we had fun playing horseshoes and enjoyed sitting around the the fire we made in the rustic fire pit....Our family had a lovely long weekend and we will cherish our time and the memories we made at Chimney rock and Crimson cottage.

Wonderful start to our Christmas break!

  • 5 of 5

We decided to visit during the first week of Christmas break, while school was out. We had 10 in all, 4 kids and 6 adults. I cannot say enough good things about Crimson Cottage, we had everything we needed. The kids loved the upstairs room while the adults had their own space downstairs. Close enough to walk to Chimney rock village, the river, great dining (Loved Laura's house). Drove up to Chimney Rock on Saturday and with the elevator out, we decided to trek it all the way to the top. So cold and windy but the view made it all worth it! On Tuesday we took a 1 1/2 hour horseback trail ride with Cedar Creek Stables, solidifying this trip as our family's best EVER!
