About Moira Cooper

After spending a life on the ocean waves, racing around the world for 6 years I decided to come to France to find love and a place I could call home. I found a home, I found love and now I have a beautiful 6 years old boy. I am originally from Scotland.

Moira Cooper purchased this farmhouse in 2001

Why Moira Cooper chose Cherbourg area

The moment I saw this house I knew it was for me. I love the fact that I can watch the cows going past for milking. The house is spacious and full of natural light, and I just love all the wooden floors.

What makes this farmhouse unique

The garden and terrace catch all the summer sun and is protected from the wind. I spend hours gardening and listening to the noise of the country side and its nature. The beaches are only a short drive away where there is the choice of North, West or East! I enjoy surfing, kite surfing and walking and cycling in this unique country side.

Guestbook comments from the owner

As I said to Moira on leaving on Saturday we had a thoroughly enjoyable time in the house, it ticked all the boxes.. we even ventured to baking a rhubarb tart with the rhubarb from the garden.... Karine, the lady who passes every morning with fresh croissants/pain au chocolat is a real asset to the area and we indulged everyday....The Gallagher Family, Ireland, June 2010.

Fantastic hoilday home

  • 5 of 5

This was such a wonderful hoilday home and made our getaway feel so cosy and easy . The house was super comfortable and had lots of beautiful finishing touches and very clean . The garden space was also magic and well maintained . The location was excellent also not too far from wild beaches and a shirt drive from the shops , making the whole atmosphere very peaceful . All of the organization before was well managed , looking forward to next year

Beautiful farm house, had the perfect holiday

  • 5 of 5

Just back from a lovely stay in Cherbourg with my family. The house was beautifully presented, clean and felt like a real home from home with that extra bit of luxury. Lots of places to go and see just a short drive away. The hidden beaches were superb. I would highly recommend this house from its pristine decor and housekeeping to its beautiful surrounding and home comforts. Will definitely be back again soon.

Less than ideal

  • 1 of 5

We chose the house after reading other positive reviews, but unfortunately our experience was very disappointing.

The house itself is well located and laid out, however during our stay, we found fresh mouse droppings every day in the kitchen and on arrival there was a damp rotten smell, which was due to rotting vegetables left in a kitchen cupboard. At night, we were woken by scuttling sounds of rodents in the walls and ceilings.

We ended our stay a week early and had to find alternative accomodation. The owner advised that she could not find any evidence of mice, although we did leave mice droppings which her cleaner found.

We were very disappointed during our stay and our experience with the owner has been very poor.

Owner's Response: I am very disappointed to have had such a bad review posted on my website......and also unhappy to have holiday makers leaving unsatisfied. I have been renting for more than 5 years and have never had any unsatisfied guests. I myself, my cleaner and the gardener have and tried everything to satisfy my guests but I guess they had another agenda. My cleaner passed by the house for a second time only just 12 hrs after the last guests departed to check for a mouse problem. Nothing was found(not any rotten vegetables either). She then passed again to clean and lay traps so we could find proof of any mice. Still nothing was found. My customers then passed a whole week in my property without any complaints and left without any notice. The following week I organised for an exterminator to come and help us look for this susposed mouse infestation. Once again nothing was found. I have tried to find out the real reason they wanted to leave the property early, but to no avail. The house was rented all summer long, fully booked and everyone who visited were more than happy to have passed fabulous holidays in my home. The house has since been rented to several guests with no complaints and no mice ever have been found. This is my home, I am a conscientious and proud home owner, I would never dream of renting it to anyone should there have been any problems.

An outstandingly beautiful, pristine & unique house

  • 5 of 5

Incredible !!! What an impressive, peaceful and ideally situated holiday rental. A huge stone built home which has been immaculately maintained and tastefully upgraded. Local patisseries and boulangeries are very handy in Martinvast and Cherbourg is just down the road. What has impressed us apart from this magnificent home itself, is the central location. East and west coast beaches are only a lovely short drive away and all the gorgeous villages and ocean views in between. If you are planning a trip to France, rent this house !!!!!! Magnifique !!!!!

Great stay.

Very nice and comfortable house. Tick all the boxes and more. The cinema room was a real treat for the whole family on the evening and the rainy days.

We have relatives in the region and we will definitely rent this house again for next year.

The farmhouse is located in the pretty village of Tollevast. It is a quiet country setting where you can find lots of farm animals and nature. It is particularly good for children as there is a vast number of attractions in the region from beach, sailing, fishing, surfing, cycling and walking. Situated just 10 minutes from the ferry port of Cherbourg and its historical harbour. The presq'ile du Cotentin hosts some of the most spectacular beaches in La Manche. An easy picturesque drive to the mont St Michael or a quick ferry trip to the islands or Jersey, Guernsey and Sark. The cotentin is the place to be to eat sea food and fresh mussels and oysters from St Vaast La Houge.
