The Owl House--so named for the frosted windows depicting owls--is a 1200 sq. ft. warehouse turned residence. Built circa 1880, it has been used as a commercial warehouse for several Main Street businesses and even as a carriage house. It was not converted into a residence until the 1980s. The Bench Street level has an entryway, full bath, kitchen, living room, dining area, and another seating area that includes a queen size sleeper sofa. The lower level has the "rock room" which serves as another sitting area for reading and listening to music, as well as the bedroom with a king size bed and bathroom. Off the back of the bedroom is a screened-in porch and small, private outdoor area.

About Joan Raymond
My grandparents owned a farm outside Galena where I spent every Sunday, as well as many weeks in the summer as a child. I have very fond memories of this City. Now, I split my time between Boulder, Colorado (where I raised my family) and Galena. All of my immediate family and a lot of my extended family live in the tri-state area.
Joan Raymond purchased this House in 2017
Why Joan Raymond chose Galena
I saw the Owl House in the 2015 Annual Tour of Historic Galena Homes and fell in love with it. Such a beautiful example of small urban living which is so historically charming! When I heard it was for sale, I knew this would be the perfect place for visitors to stay and enjoy the best of Galena right at their finger tips!

It was perfect! Would stay again and again. Joan thought of everything and the location is ideal!
Cozy, cute & clean!
The house was cozy & full of charm! Most importantly, it was clean! Pullout couch was very comfortable, for additional sleeping options. Location could not be better, for all things happening in Galena; walking distance to everything on Main Street. Joan was also IMMEDIATELY available when I contacted her to retrieve some belongings left behind, before I left town. DEFINITELY recommend the Owl House!
Location and Charm!!
The Owl House is an incredible place to stay in Galena! Cozy and charming, and location is perfect. We loved every minute!
Beautiful property in an excellent location!
Joan was a wonderful and helpful host. This property was absolutely beautiful, so comfortable, and in a very convenient location to shops, restaurants, and the river. I would highly recommend to any one staying in Galena.
Everything is wonderfully renovated!!
Wonderful place to stay!
The property is immaculate and well appointed. Joan added many nice touches. We loved staying here and we will recommend to friends. Super location.
If Illinois is the Land of Lincoln, then Galena is certainly the City of Grant. As a civil war era town, it's not uncommon to see soldier reenactments or even a man dressed as General Grant strolling down Main Street. We call Main Street the "Helluva Half Mile" because it's packed with antique stores, souvenir shops, tasty treats, fashion, decor, and restaurants. And after dinner, the nightlife will make you glad you can just walk home! We like to think of Galena as our secret spot, but we're happy to see others jump on board too! Forbes Magazine listed Galena as one of America's Prettiest Towns, Conde Nast Traveler listed Galena as the 2nd friendliest city in America, and Fodor's Travel listed it in America's Best Main Streets--just to name a few!
