Nicky Whitaker purchased this farmhouse in 2008
Before even arriving Nicky had been in touch to see if we needed anything prior to our arrival including the first shop, needless to say how grateful we were after a long drive (due to traffic) with 2 children and a dog to have food and drink in! The relaxed and timeless environment continued as there was nothing that Nicky and Martin didn't have from fully stocked kitchen, dvd collection that only Jonathan Ross might beat, bikes, hammocks, reading material, indoor and outdoor games, the list is endless. We spent most of the time outdoors in the stunning courtyard garden with pool and dining area (with bbq again charcoal and utensils all there) or in the front garden playing boules, swinging on the tree swing or playing with the dogs. Nicky and Martin were unbelievable hosts providing us with lots of local knowledge and being so welcoming to our family and dog. The highlight of the stay for the children was a cinema evening that Martin very kindly put on. I could not recommend Sarrians enough, you only need some clothes and a toothbrush and you'd have the perfect holiday. Thank you Nicky and Martin.
My extended family (kids, sister, husband and parents) and I spent a fantastic week and a half at the gite just outside of Sarrians. The setting was perfect with easy distance to vineyards and pretty towns, and good for sightseeing in Avignon, Orange and surrounding countryside.
The gite had everything we needed; sunny pool, sprawling grounds for the kids to explore and play, tastefully renovated accommodation, brilliant addition of attached 'cinnebar' and incredibly kind hosts in Nicky and Martin who went out of their way to make us feel at home and help with any queries. We are already planning our return.
We had a totally memorable holiday in Nicky and Martin's house. Our only regret was that we did not spend our full holiday with them. They were full of helpful advice without feeing in the least like we were encroaching on them or vice versa. The house and environs had everything to keep us and our 3 teenage children totally happy. We only got to see a fraction of what the area had to offer - Roman remains, vineyards, markets etc.We still have a list of things we want to do on a future visit! The house was so well appointed with more than enough towels, toiletries, cleaning materials (all the things you can't bring on Ryanair!).Once we got the hang of the internal staircases we had absolutely no issues with the house at all. We could not recommend it highly enough!
The family had an amazing week in this home away from home. Nicky and Martin are such great hosts with some great tips for days out. Our daughter fell in love with their huge garden and two dogs - Brenner and Shaggy and misses them dearly now we are back. The house is beautifully converted and has real character, it is ideally located to visit all that provence can offer and you have the bonus of coming back to relax in the cool, clean pool. The whole family would wholeheartedly recommend it as a great holiday. Looking forward to visiting again soon.
From the minute we arrived we fell in love. Au Coeur du Vignes is hidden away amongst vine groves, and set within a vast country garden but superbly situated for all the most beautiful Provencal villages and towns. The house is beautifully decorated and a real home away from home, all the rooms are huge and our two daughters absolutely loved their pretty Provencal bedroom complete with a bookcase brimming with children's classics. The swimming pool is fantastic and spotlessly clean every day (despite our heavy use of it!) and there is an abundance of places to sit and eat or drink, lunch under the oak tree, dinner on the patio, breakfast on the balcony, we never got round to all of them!
Nicky and Martin have a wealth of knowledge on the area, having lived there for many years and were a huge source of wisdom when it came to finding fabulous restaurants, local cycle rides, hidden lakes, colourful caves and shop your heart out markets. They are the perfect hosts, generous, thoughtful and incredibly chilled out.
Thoroughly recommend to all types - but for us a family of four, I never realised just how content our children could be with a swimming pool, a huge garden to explore, lashings of sunshine and gorgeous dogs to play with. A truly magical place.
The area of the Vaucluse between Orange to the west, Carpentras to the east and the Dentelles and Mont Ventoux to the North is renowned for its quality wine production, its picturesque provençal villages and the countryside in which walking, bicycling, and picnicking can be enjoyed under the almost invariable blue skies. The larger towns have lively weekly markets and Roman and Greek vestiges are easily found.
