This was our first trip to Italy and we can highly recommend this apartment as a lovely, spacious, and clean place. It is modern and convenient wuth everything you need. It is however it a three bedroomed apartment but a two bedroom with a third sitting room. We felt very safe. There is a lovely outside porch for relaxing. We do not hesitate to highly recommend this fabulous home away from home. We also recommend using Matteo's driver to and from the airport in a luxury van and friendly service. The apartment is located about 15 minutes walk from St Peter's and also away from the main shopping areas. Taxis and busses are handy and smaller shops across the road. Would stay there again on a future visit.
We stayed for 7 nights. This apartment was immaculately clean, well-maintained and had every amenity, including great air-conditioning for the sweltering Roman summer. The beds were comfortable, the linens and towels of high quality and all the appliances worked well, especially the washing machine. The living room/ dining area is spacious and both bathrooms had great showers. It was perfect for my family of five, with the little one having his own bed in the little bedroom off the master which has its own en-suite bathroom. Matteo and Marta were kind, courteous and professional and even helped to arrange our airport transfers. It is a less than 10 minute walk to the Vatican- which was our main reason for visiting Rome. It is not however in the very middle of the tourist heart of Rome. The nearest train stop is San Peitro, a 7 minute walk, which is not on either of the two main subway lines. The surrounding neighborhood felt safe. We often took a taxi home at the end of the day which was about 10 Euro from most places in the city. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
This was our first trip to Italy and we were a bit apprehensive about staying in an apartment in a country that we were not familiar with. After arriving at the apartment, our fears were diminished. Matteo met us there and explained everything. The apartment is lovely, spacious, and clean. It is modern and convenient to everything you need. We felt very safe. We spent our evenings after our long and glorious days, on the outside porch drinking wine and recapping the adventure of the day. We do not hesitate to highly recommend this fabulous home away from home.
We also recommend using Matteo's driver to and from the airport in a luxury van! Splendid!
Four of us stayed in this apartment May 25- June 1. The apartment is nicely furnished and the twin beds are reasonably comfortable. The apartment has black out shades which makes for a very dark room to sleep in. The apartment is a nice building but there are about 5 steps up to the first floor which was difficult with heavy suitcases and would be an issue for a person who had difficulty with stairs.
The apartment owner, Matteo, was very friendly and arranged for transfers both from the train station/ and to the airport. Our driver from the train station was late, as he had been given the wrong time. When we arrived we waited just a few minutes for Matteo to let us in. We were very surprised to owe more money than expected upon arrival. The initial deposit (1/4 of total rent) was charged to our credit card and the second payment for the balance was canceled and we received an email to pay it upon arrival. We did not see that in addition to the balance, there was a security fee and a cleaning fee. No big deal- it was stated, I just misunderstood it was in addition to the balance due from the rent. What was not clearly stated was that although we paid a deposit via homeaway, the apartment owner does not receive the full amount. We were only credited for the portion the owner received which essentially meant that we paid the homeaway fee, instead of the owner. I've rented from homeaway before and this was not done nor expected.
During our stay, we had no problems with the apartment itself. It was lovely. The location states it is close to the Vatican and the metro stop. I don't find this to be true. We did walk to the Vatican which is roughly a mile. I would not say it is close enough that you would want to walk there and back each day especially after a long day of sightseeing. My mother is older and has some limitations with walking. The walk took us 30 minutes each way with her. Walking normally, it would be 15-20 minutes at least. We ended up using taxis to get around which most locations were 10-15 Euro taxi rides. There is a bus stop right in front if you take the time to figure out the bus system, it would probably be cheaper. Don't bother with the hop-on, hop-off bus either as the nearest stop is even further.
There is not a huge option for dining near by either. We found one decent place, but if you want to walk to dinner each night. I'd recommend staying more central.
Case Gregoria was a well appointed location for my wife, me and our three adult children. We were able to walk to the Vatican in 15-20 min, use the Metro or easily obtain a taxi. There are cafes, restaurants and grocery within a couple of blocks. Matteo was very accommodating in our arrival and departure arrangements.
Casa Gregorio is a lovely spacious modernised apartment, the photographs speak for themselves. Everything is spotless and in very good condition ( well equipped kitchen, endless hot water in the beautiful bathrooms, comfortable beds, furniture etc), and lovely big terrace. Nice neighbourhood and excellent café next door for breakfast and nightcap. Safe area, only 15 minute walk to St Peter’s & Vatican and hop-on buses; local buses outside the apartment, metro just a couple of blocks away. Taxi fare from most of the major sights of Rome to the apartment were only 12-15 euro, great for getting back to the apartment after a long day/evening out. We ate at various restaurants within walking distance, all with superb menus and service, and incredible value for money - far less than we pay at home, even our last night around The Spanish Steps didn't dent the budget. We bought advance 3-day OMNIA passes which were easy to validate and excellent value for money for all sightseeing and travel around Rome. We also pre-booked Italiarail tickets to Naples/Pompei – good value, reserved seating, clean and comfortable fast trains (just over an hour each way). Would highly recommend the apartment, a great base for exploring this part of Italy. Matteo responded quickly and efficiently to all email correspondence prior to our stay, and was very helpful and understanding on our late arrival (aircraft issues, 5hr delay), and also arranged luggage storage and return transfer for our return to the airport. Would certainly stay again, and highly recommend. October 2015.
