This original stone faced Traditional Irish Cottage is situated just off the 'Ring of Kerry' road. It is between the villages of Sneem & Castlecove in a place called Derreenauliffe. It is a rural setting, between the mountains on one side, and the sea on the other.
It was built in 1917, and was occupied until 1995 by a lady called Annie O''Leary. We thought it appropriate to call this wonderful haven after her, hence 'Annie's Cottage'.
In 1997 the interior of the cottage was modified and superbly designed to optimize space and light, while retaining all the charm and character of a traditional cottage, eg beams on the ceilings downstairs & sloping ceilings upstairs. It is tastefully furnished with the comfort of the guest in mind.
There is a washing machine/dryer, and central heating throughout, essential for winter visitors.
From the doorstep of this beautiful cottage you can smell the different fragrances of the countryside.
Downstairs; There is a cosy sitting room with an oil stove, TV, Radio & CD player. A kitchen with all modern conveniences, eg dishwasher, microwave, George Foreman grill, steamer as well as all the usual oven, hob & fridge. There is a small freezer in the house, but you can use a bigger freezer that belongs to the agent, if you so wish.
Next to the kitchen is a very private and relaxing sun-room/dining-room/ lounge. There are French doors leading from this room on to a patio and secure garden. You can sit, relax and sip your favourite beverage, or have a BBQ, while your children play in the garden under your watchful eye. Or just sit in the privacy of these tranquil surroundings and read your favourite book.
The shower is electric, and is nestled half-way up the stairs. Upstairs there is a toilet and hand basin.
This beautiful cottage sleeps 4 people. Sleeping accommodation comprises of, one double bedroom, (a double bed) and one twin bedroom, (two single beds), both have original sloping ceilings.
The visitor can get everything they need for their holiday in Sneem village which is just 7km from the cottage. There is a supermarket and some small grocery shops, butcher shops, coffee shops, restaurants, bars that serve bar food. Some of the bars also have music at night, (check locally). There is a doctor available seven days a week, check with the agent for times. There is also a chemist shop & hairdressers,
A creche, and a playground will keep the younger children happy during their holiday.
The famous 'Kerry Way', (the road used many years ago, before the use of modern modes of transport) can be joined right from your doorstep. The views from this mountainous walk are spectacular.
There is a local walking group who organize walks of the area. Ask the agent about these.
There are three sandy beaches along the coastline from the cottage. One of the beaches has a beautiful bar/restaurant situated right on the beach. They have an extensive menu, with excellent food. Food is served all day until 9pm. You can enjoy anything from a coffee, or a sandwich - to a steak, or lobster etc.
The cottage is an ideal touring base for the south west of Ireland. The Dingle peninsula, Beara peninsula and Killarney are all very beautiful and can be seen on a day trip from the cottage.
