We miss you and your wonderful family, we miss your beautiful house, we miss the charm of Porto Ercole, and we miss amazing Italy. We had a great summer vacation at your house and with such a nice landlord like you. We hope to see you in the future and we wish you and your family all the best.
Eleven of us stayed in the house and bungalow in a hot week in August and enjoyed it enormously. Of course having the family all together for once, children and grandchildren, was a real treat but to do it in a place like this doubled the treat. In some ways it felt just like home ...but bigger and better...with a wonderful sea-view and Mediterranean climate.
The houses and gardens exceeded our expectations: at the time we booked our holiday at least, the on-line photos didn't do justice to them...Blasco, the owner confessed that he likes to see the looks of surprise on the faces of new arrivals ! Set high on the hillside with uninterrupted views of La Feniglia beach to the right, Porto Ercole to the left and the sea filling the horizon in-between, the main house and the guest-house bungalow, joined by a path of a 100 yards or so, were both well furnished and extremely comfortable. For example: all of the bedrooms had double- (and often twinnable) beds with each bedroom having en suite or adjacent bathrooms; well-equipped kitchens and spacious and shaded open-air dining areas; the bungalow had full air-conditioning and the house had a generous allocation of large fans...though the old stone walls helped to keep it surprisingly cool. The Internet provision worked well in both houses as did the DVD player and large flat-screen TV so indoor comfort was complete.
The gardens were another pleasure: nothing too formal but well looked after, extending up the hillside behind the houses. The wild-life (small lizards and an occasional squirrel, continual birdsong and chirping crickets) was another positive addition. The pool (newly improved as we arrived) was a magnet for everyone and the children simply loved it.
Blasco and his small "team" we're friendly and welcoming and were on hand when needed...and splendidly unobtrusive, considering that they lived in two additional cottages within the grounds. Everything was scrupulously clean and well-maintained.
We're planning to return next year...and hoping we can squeeze in a couple more of the family group to share the experience !
The villa setting is remarkable. Set high on a hill this villa looks out over the azure blue sea toward the Italian mainland. Boats bob in the harbour below you. You are surrounded by tree covered hillside and awake to the sounds of the countryside. The town of Porto Ercole is small busy and exciting. The harbour is focus for both pleasure craft and fishing boats, the bars and restaurants accommodate all tastes and the shops plentiful.
The villa is set about 1.5 miles out of town up a steep narrow lane that is readily accessible. The accommodation offers beautiful indoor and outdoor space, the indoor sitting area is large comfortable and airy, the kitchen is very practical and full of all mods cons along with a wonderful view. The obvious attention to detail, design flare and imagination using antiques and modern furnishings is a delight. The outside terrace is possibly the best place to have a home cooked meal we have ever experienced. The bedrooms and bathrooms all work well with lots of space for everyone. The villa is set in grounds with two other smaller rental properties but everyone has their own private space and this works well. The main property had a private pool which offered a welcome opportunity to cool off in the hot sunny days.
Underpinning this wonderful villa is the hospitality of our hosts Blasco and Elizabetta. They are attentive and helpful without being intrusive and are a source of valuable information about where to go and what to do. They made our stay memorable.
As a family we have travelled widely and would have no hesitation in recommending staying in this villa if travelling in Southern Tuscany, a true gem.
Where do I start!!!
The owner was incredible, always available and went out of his way to help us in anything we needed. We where treated like family members coming for a visit. AMAZING villa, so spacious, it was perfect location; everything we needed was available or made available to us as soon as requested. the locations is perfect for relaxation and the kids enjoyed exploring the grounds. The beach perfect for kids was just 5 min away by car. All surrounding areas are great for exploring and the main railway station (Grossetto) was only 30min by car.
Thank you so much for helping secure our stay at Il Borgo al Mare and 5 stars to the owner !!! we will miss Italy!!
