The studio cottage, renovated in 2013, has an open space living area with queen size bed ; an open plan kitchen diner with a dishwasher, gas hob and a combo-microwave oven, fridge and a shower room with toilet. There is a Roku streaming box for English language TV, French TV with DVD player and Free WiFi. Outside there is a terrace with a covered vine (perfect for picking your own grapes in season!) with a barbecue and eating area and a sunbed lounging area. The terrace is enclosed and is a secure area for children and dogs. From the terrace, you can access the dipping pool and relax on the decking area which are for the sole use of our visitors. Enjoy tasting the fruit from the many olive and citrus fruit trees in the grounds.
I am a local, born in Antibes and I love my region. I have been busy building our family home for the last few years which has been a challenging project ! We live among a large selection of orange and olive trees which require constant maintenance but is a very rewarding task. I enjoy making products from our harvests. This year I have made a special orange liqueur which was delicious.. I have also started experimenting with developing my own olive oil soap - all bio and no animal fats. My next project is to restore my ancient VW beetle .. but that's another story!
Gilbert Giordano purchased this cottage in 2000
When we visited this property in May, the Orange trees were in blossom and the fragrance was fantastic that was the moment I knew this was going to be our new home!
The Orangerie charmed us from the moment we arrived. It is completely detached and sits in its own private plot with the owners house close enough to be useful for advice or any questions we might have had.
The house is nicely finished and clean, with everything you need to hand.
We spent our week roaming between Nice, Cannes and Antibes every day and the house is perfectly situated for such a trip. The local village is pretty and has a number of reasonably priced restaurants and a good pub to keep you fed and watered.
I would definitely recommend the Orangerie, in fact I already have to several of my friends.
Thanks, and see you next year!
We enjoyed a wonderful week at L'Orangeraie. Despite being within easy reach of Nice and Cannes, there are also pristine mountains, lakes and gorges easily accessible. For the adventurous, wild swimming and 'tombstoning' in the River Loup are a 'must' where the river has carved a course of waterfalls, slides, jumps and deep natural pools. You can take guided walking / swimming adventure tours with a number of companies in Pont sur Loup. There is also tandem paragliding available in Gréolières at one of the two paragliding schools in the village. Cultural opportunities include perfume making, visiting hilltop villages, fêtes and open air cinemas in nearby Monaco and Villeneuve as well as winery tours, tastings and painting / photographic tours of the areas celebrated by Renoir, Chagall and Matisse. There are some wonderful walks. There is the attraction of the local food - whether this is a morning trip to the boulangerie or one of the many good local restaurants. The house itself is compact but very comfortable and well maintained with fabulous views and a delightful shaded terrace where one can happily while away a few hours in the morning having coffee and croissants. There is fast Internet access within and surrounding the cottage and also a good signal for mobile phones. The property is clearly well loved and cared. We will be returning!
This is a well equipped comfortable cottage with a brilliant plunge pool, although there is so much to see and do in the region we didn't spend much time there. Although only half an hour from Nice airport, it feels like a completely different world from the hustle and bustle of the coast. The surrounding hills are stunning to sit and look at from the cottage's terrace and fantastic to visit, with crystal clear rivers where you can swim, fish 'tombstone' and much more. There are many magnificent walks through gorgeous scenery and lovely villages to visit with great bars, restaurants and shops selling everything you may want and need. We saw many cyclists and para gliders if you are feeling adventurous. The owners of the cottage are very knowledgeable about the area and will be able to help you plan your itinerary if you wish. They are very helpful and friendly! The cottage is newly refurbished and very clean with everything you need. I wish we had booked for longer but we will definitely be back to this charming spot. Thank you Cathy and Gilbert for a wonderful stay.
Our second time at this beautiful villa and we fell in love with it all over again! The owners, Cathy and Gilbert, have put so much thought and care into the property and are kind and welcoming hosts. A great location in a beautiful village and only 40mins from Antibes and it's beautiful beaches and cobbled streets. The villa has everything you could need, including a dipping pool which is perfect for cooling down in the Provence heat! We will definitely be back!! Thank you Cathy and Gilbert :)
Having now stayed at the Orangeraie we can see why so many people have given it such glowing comments- it is a lovely place to stay overlooking the Loup valley- breakfast at home won't be the same again compared with sitting on the terrace at the Orangeraie under the grape vines and next to the many orange trees. The property has everything you need and is well looked after plus on a really hot day there is a dipping pool to cool you down.
Our hosts Catharine and Gilbert made us and our dog George feel so welcome and nothing was ever too much trouble for them- a lovely couple.
Le Bar sur Loup is a medieval town with lots of winding streets and extensive views across the valley plus friendly people and several nice places to eat including Le Donjon restaurant where you will receive a warm welcome from Christine and Thomas and is a must to eat at. If you are a dog walker then do try the lovely walks up into the hills or down by the river.
Most importantly is the Orangeraie's location -it is an idea place to stay to travel to other parts of the region such as Monaco, Nice, Antibes or Cannes or to go to the many wonderful villages such as Tourrettes sur Loup which is famous for its violets or Valbonne where as a bonus we found a vet, Dr Vincent Charles who, besides being very helpful and friendly, was also the most reasonably priced for the compulsory dog treatment before returning to the UK.
Last but by no means least is our visit to The Verdon Gorges where we drove around the Grand Canyon of Verdon the 2nd largest canyon in the world! It is an absolutely amazing place and the highlight of our holiday.
L’Orangeraie is a renovated cottage in the hills behind Nice, near to Grasse, set in a former orange and olive grove. It is located in a village called Le Bar sur Loup, which is 15 minutes drive from Grasse. It is a 10 minutes walk to the village which has a good selection of amenities: shops, newsagents, restaurants and cafés.
There are local markets almost every day in the surrounding towns, and many local perfumeries to visit. As we are 30 minutes inland from the coast, this is the perfect setting for a quiet break away from it all. You can drive down to the beaches of Antibes, Cannes or swim in our local river, the Loup which has lots of deep (invigorating!) rock pools.
The cottage is in a very quiet location with beautiful mountains which can be explored by foot, cycle or car. From the cottage you can reach the GR4 on foot, directly from the cottage. The GR 4 is a long-distance walking route of the Grande Randonnée network in France. The route connects Royan with Grasse and connects 13 departments. The river Loup runs through the village is a favorite spot for picnicking, swimming, canyoning etc .
It is also a well-known spot for hang-gliders.
If you like star spotting, the famous Riviera beaches at Cannes or Nice are approx. 40 minutes’ drive away.
In the winter months we are only 35 minutes drive from the small family resort of Gréolières-Les-Neiges and 2 hours from the lively resorts of Auron and Isola 2000.
If you like relaxing on your holiday in the peace and quiet this would make the perfect location for your vacation break!
