About Carolyn & Terry ONeill

Terry and Carolyn O'Neill, Big Sky, Montana residents for 25 years.

Carolyn & Terry ONeill purchased this house in 1991

Why Carolyn & Terry ONeill chose Montana

Terry and I were on our way to Yellowstone National Park when we spent the night in Big Sky, Montana. Needless to say, the next day was a glorious July day and we immediately fell in love with Big Sky. After extending our stay another 4 days, we began planning our next trip to Montana to ski Lone Mountain. That January we knew it had won our hearts and we began our search for the perfect property. In 1991 we purchased our thirteen acre paradise on the Gallatin River. It was the best decision we have ever made!!

Guestbook comments from the manager

It will be hard to leave tomorrow!! This is definitely God's country!! Everyday has a highlight. My favorite part was early mornings in the nice, warm hot tub with my eyes shut listening to the river roar through and listening to the birds. Also, taking nap outside on the lounge chair wrapped up in a blanket. We also invited Carolyn & Terry over for dinner...being the gourmet chef my husband fixed an outstanding meal of salmon, shrimp, trout, chicken, potatoes, beans followed by a bottle of wine. It was such a blessing to have them over. Very, very beautiful people...loved the conversations...so down to earth and loving. This home is breathtaking. We hope to be back in the future.

Beautiful Cabin by the Gallatin River

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the O'Neil Guesthouse. The sound of the Gallatin River from the spacious back deck was so peaceful. The hot tub, which is amazingly placed on the back of the deck beside the river, was the very nicest hot tub in the very nicest location that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. The bedding in the many bedrooms was amazing. The sheets were so soft and the pillows and bedding was beyond luxurious. The kids had a great time, with plenty of games to keep them occupied. We were fortunate to still have a little snow left when we got there so they got to play outside and build a snowman. This house is spacious! The downstairs bunk room would be amazing to house plenty of kids. This house would definitely be great for a multi-family vacation, however our family of 4 fit in it just fine. We loved being able to stay the perfect distance from town. Not too busy - not too remote. There are restaurants right down the road too, which was great when we didn't feel like eating in. When you stay at the O'Neil Guesthouse (and you should), you will notice that the owners have taken the time and care to conveniently label and provide much needed information on anything you may have a question about. You can tell the property has been meticulously maintained and is very clean. The O'Neils live just a few steps away and are very helpful and welcoming but are also non-intrusive and you will quickly feel that you staying in a remote cabin in the woods, with every convience you could want or need to make your stay comfortable.

Owner's Response: Sometimes we think things we do around the guesthouse aren't that noticeable then along comes someone like you that comments on all the details. It's guests like you that make every ounce of work we do worthwhile. Thank you for your wonderful review!! Thank the girls for leaving that amazing completed puzzle on the table for us to enjoy. We loved their note "This puzzle was really hard". Tell them I wish I could catch a fish that big. Thank all of you for treasuring your experience with us and Big Sky Montana. We hope to see you again.

AMAZING PROPERTY!

  • 5 of 5

We came May 13, 2017 for six days with another adult couple. This property was roomy and very comfortable with 4 adults. The views are wonderful ! The river sound is the best sleep ever. The house came with anything and everything you needed to cook with. We ate all our dinners at the house. Carolyn and Terry gave us some hints to shop for our groceries in Bozeman on our way into Big Sky and we did. There are a couple of stores in Big Sky, but the prices were better in town. We picnic lunched it in the various parks, Grand Teton and Yellowstone. Big hint, if your flying in to town, stop at the local pawn shops in Bozeman to get your travel big lunch cooler, it is the cheapest route, sell the cooler back to them on the way out. The home was an easy drive to the West Yellowstone entrance, Grand Teton was a bit farther, but the drive was just so pretty. If you like to fly fish, there are great locations within an easy drive of this home, and you can off the back deck the right time of year. Loved, loved, the property! We were sitting in the hot tub while it snowed next to the river, life does not get much better. We will be back to this property for sure!

Owner's Response: We always try to meet our guests sometime during their visit but you were "on the move" everyday. You really covered a lot of territory but it sounds like an incredible trip. We're glad you were happy with the guesthouse. It is a special place!! Now...next time you come please allow a day to hang out on the patio so we'll have a chance to meet you. Thanks for all your nice comments. It means a lot to us.

Beautiful home. Exceeded expectations.

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful time seeing all of the surrounding areas. Although we visited during off-season and many restaurants and attractions were closed, it was nice to have Yellowstone practically to ourselves. Can't beat the beauty and the abundant animal life.

The O'Neill guest house exceeded expectations. It was clean and well appointed. Terry and Caroline were great in making sure our needs were met and had some great suggestions for restaurants in the area.

We will definitely return with friends and family in the future. I would highly recommend this property!!

Owner's Response: The Park is nice this time of the year before the summer crowds arrive. I'm glad you and your family enjoyed it. Please do keep us in mind for a return trip in September. I know you'll enjoy hearing the elk bugle and seeing the beautiful fall foliage. Thank you for the special care you took of our guesthouse. It was immaculate!!! Hope to see you again soon.

Fabulous Mountain Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We were fortunate to have stayed at the O'Neil Guesthouse while visiting family in Big Sky. It is amazing in every way. The owners take such care of the property and guests. The floor plan is very open, and all of the little details have been thought through. The beds are very comfortable and the bedding was soft and high-quality. The O'neils are the nicest and most genuine people you could meet. I look forward to having my family back at the Guesthouse again!!

Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

Great place to explore all the amazing experiences Big Sky and West Yellowstone offers! The home is spread out and our family of three generations had more than enough space to unwind without bumping into each other, The grandkids loved playing in the snow and all the adults fell in love with the beauty of Montana. The kitchen had everything you could need and we loved dining in a couple times in front of the fire and sharing our days of fun and adventure. The hosts were more than accommodating and when asked about sledding for the grandkids delivered some sleds within a few minutes ....wow is all we can say! Can't wait to return!!!

Owner's Response: We are so glad you had such a great time with your family at our guesthouse. Luckily, we had many sleds because that is one our grandkids favorite thing to do and it's free!!! Hopefully, you will return soon to enjoy another winter vacation in Big Sky. Also, thank you for leaving the guesthouse in such great shape. We really appreciate it.
