About Carolyn & Terry ONeill

Terry and Carolyn O'Neill, Big Sky, Montana residents for 25 years.

Carolyn & Terry ONeill purchased this house in 1991

Why Carolyn & Terry ONeill chose Montana

Terry and I were on our way to Yellowstone National Park when we spent the night in Big Sky, Montana. Needless to say, the next day was a glorious July day and we immediately fell in love with Big Sky. After extending our stay another 4 days, we began planning our next trip to Montana to ski Lone Mountain. That January we knew it had won our hearts and we began our search for the perfect property. In 1991 we purchased our thirteen acre paradise on the Gallatin River. It was the best decision we have ever made!!

Guestbook comments from the manager

It will be hard to leave tomorrow!! This is definitely God's country!! Everyday has a highlight. My favorite part was early mornings in the nice, warm hot tub with my eyes shut listening to the river roar through and listening to the birds. Also, taking nap outside on the lounge chair wrapped up in a blanket. We also invited Carolyn & Terry over for dinner...being the gourmet chef my husband fixed an outstanding meal of salmon, shrimp, trout, chicken, potatoes, beans followed by a bottle of wine. It was such a blessing to have them over. Very, very beautiful people...loved the down to earth and loving. This home is breathtaking. We hope to be back in the future.

Lovely winter haven

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 6 came over the Christmas holidays and spent our time downhill skiing at Big Sky (20 min drive from the house), miles of beautiful cross country skiing at Lone Mountain Ranch, hiking, and one day of snowmobiling in Yellowstone (50 min drive). On a rest day we drove into Bozeman to shop, see a movie and go to the indoor climbing gym. So much to do. The house is nicely situated off the road so you have a feeling of privacy and seclusion, and the back deck is right on the Gallatin River. Hot tub on the deck is fantastic: gentle snowfall on your head or millions of stars on a clear night. The house is spacious and clean, love the Montana decor. Has everything you need for a fabulous family vacation.

Owner's Response: You were sure packing in a lot of activities while in Big Sky. It's good you saved some time for one the favorite things to do at the ONeill Guesthouse...sit in the spa on a star-filled night and relax. Lots of snow made for great skiing and snowmobiling but a day off visiting Bozeman was a nice break. Many visitors come to Big Sky but never take the time to go to Bozeman. They sadly miss a cute Montana town!! I would like to thank you for leaving the guesthouse so clean. I always try to thank our special guests that treat our place like home. Hope to see you again.

Fantastic Experience

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic experience at the O'Niell guesthouse. Everything we could possibly need was provided and the house itself was beautiful and felt like home.

With Yellowstone and great fishing just a hop and a skip away, the guest house ended up being the perfect getaway to spend some quality time with my dad and make some great memories.

Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful home.

Owner's Response: We are so happy to hear your father/son trip was a huge success. Getting families together is one of the things we have enjoyed most about sharing our guesthouse. Your dad seemed to be really excited to catch those fish and see Yellowstone National Park. That was heartwarming!!

Amazing location! Peaceful scenery!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I recently stayed at the O'Neill Guesthouse for our fall honeymoon. The owners were so sweet and even left us a bottle of champaign! They were there if we needed them, but otherwise unobtrusive. The location is great - less than an hour from Yellowstone and ten minutes from Big Sky shops. (And Beehive Basin Brewery - try the Kaiser Rye Pale Ale!) The hot tub was essential after long days of hiking and we loved having the river right off the deck. Although this home was cozy for just the two of us, it would be an amazing place to bring a big family. This place has everything you're looking for - don't hesitate to book!

Outstanding guesthouse

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here in September this year and were delighted with the property. The guesthouse is generously equiped with all you need to self cater. The living areas are large and beautifully furnished. The large deck out back enables guests to relax beside the river. This property is in a great location to explore Big Sye and Yellowstone.

There was only my husband and I staying but could see how perfect the guest house would be for a family group or friends to stay

Cool mountain respite.

  • 5 of 5

If all you do is sit out on the back deck in the morning with a cup of hot coffee and listen to the music of the Gallatin river just feet away you would enjoy this beautiful getaway. But there are lots to do including fly-fishing, rafting, horseback riding and of course Yellowstone is 40 minutes away. This is a great place with all the amenities and wonderful hosts. One of our friends said this was a vacation of a lifetime and we all agreed. And don't forget you can have a cold beer in the hot tub at the end of the day!

Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This was our fourth visit to Carolyn and Terry’s fabulous house on the Gallatin River. We fell in love with this house and the perfect location a few years ago! The house has all the top notch amenities that you could possibly need. The house has the perfect layout for a group to enjoy each other but also has the privacy you would want.

We come here to fly fish. The house literally sits on the Gallatin River and has always produced nice trout! We love relaxing on the deck, enjoying the peace and quiet while we plan our adventure for the next day. A quick drive to Yellowstone National Park or to Big Sky for lunch or dinner if you don’t want to BBQ for yourself on the deck.

You won’t find nicer hosts than Carolyn and Terry! They have created a beautiful environment for all to enjoy – stress free! We are all looking forward to our next opportunity to spend another week in Montana. I highly recommend this home for your stay!
