About Carolyn & Terry ONeill

Terry and Carolyn O'Neill, Big Sky, Montana residents for 22 years.

Carolyn & Terry ONeill purchased this house in 1991

Why Carolyn & Terry ONeill chose Montana

Terry and I were on our way to Yellowstone National Park when we spent the night in Big Sky, Montana. Needless to say, the next day was a glorious July day and we immediately fell in love with Big Sky. After extending our stay another 4 days, we began planning our next trip to Montana to ski Lone Mountain. That January we knew it had won our hearts and we began our search for the perfect property. In 1991 we purchased our thirteen acre paradise on the Gallatin River. It was the best decision we have ever made!!

Guestbook comments from the manager

It will be hard to leave tomorrow!! This is definitely God's country!! Everyday has a highlight. My favorite part was early mornings in the nice, warm hot tub with my eyes shut listening to the river roar through and listening to the birds. Also, taking nap outside on the lounge chair wrapped up in a blanket. We also invited Carolyn & Terry over for dinner...being the gourmet chef my husband fixed an outstanding meal of salmon, shrimp, trout, chicken, potatoes, beans followed by a bottle of wine. It was such a blessing to have them over. Very, very beautiful people...loved the conversations...so down to earth and loving. This home is breathtaking. We hope to be back in the future.

Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This was our fourth visit to Carolyn and Terry’s fabulous house on the Gallatin River. We fell in love with this house and the perfect location a few years ago! The house has all the top notch amenities that you could possibly need. The house has the perfect layout for a group to enjoy each other but also has the privacy you would want.

We come here to fly fish. The house literally sits on the Gallatin River and has always produced nice trout! We love relaxing on the deck, enjoying the peace and quiet while we plan our adventure for the next day. A quick drive to Yellowstone National Park or to Big Sky for lunch or dinner if you don’t want to BBQ for yourself on the deck.

You won’t find nicer hosts than Carolyn and Terry! They have created a beautiful environment for all to enjoy – stress free! We are all looking forward to our next opportunity to spend another week in Montana. I highly recommend this home for your stay!

Wonderful home, great location

  • 5 of 5

This was our family's first trip to Montana and we could not have asked for a better place to spend a week vacation. We were able to take time visiting Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park, as well as, fishing the Gallatin and even sneaking in a round of golf at Big Sky Resort! It was nice being able to spend time relaxing by the river after a busy day, I just wish we there one week later after the water level came down a bit more for more fishing opportunity at the house. It was getting just about perfect when it was time for us to leave!

Such a great location for scenic views, wildlife viewing, and just getting away. It was nice knowing that Carolyn and Terry were just next door if something was needed, but honestly, we never knew they were there after check-in. Plenty of personal privacy for such a close location.

You will definitely not be disappointed with this home for your stay - highly recommended!

Breathtakingly beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We came to fish and relax. Check. We had a group of 5 non-family members, and the home was large enough to easily accommodate us. Everything you need was provided, and we got to act like it was 1916 instead of 2016 by catching and then cooking trout on the grill. Wait, did they have gas grills in 1916?

All 5 of us were saying "We HAVE to come back here". Now that we know the best fishing holes, it will be a slam dunk.

The O'Neill's have mastered the art of being accommodating, but scarce; there when you need them, but absent when you don't. I suppose decades of "practice" at this helps.

Finally, and I am sticking my neck out on this one; we also felt like we stole from the O'Neills. The rate was so inexpensive that we got to eat out at the finest restaurants in the area, and we fell in love with the locals. We came from California, Texas, Georgia, Florida and Ohio, but Montana now feels like home. Thanks for the great experience.

Owner's Response: It's great you and your gang had such a good time in Big Sky. We often hear that from our guests. I can't take credit for the perfect weather for fishing during your stay but I can thank you for all your nice comments about the ONeill Guesthouse. There are a few fish waiting for your return. Hope to see you soon. Carolyn & Terry

Guest house? No, Great house!

  • 5 of 5

We spent five fabulous nights at the O'Neill's beautiful guest house. We loved soaking our tired muscles in the hot tub overlooking the river after a long day of skiing at Big Sky. The beds are comfortable, the kitchen is well equipped and we used the gas grill every night to BBQ our dinner. We enjoyed the large dining room and living room to gather together the whole family.

Just wonderful!

Amazing. Quiet. Beautiful.

  • 5 of 5

Close to all of the Big Sky beauty and fun and just enough away from the action to feel a part of the grandiose beauty of Montana. My wife and I stayed with our 4 children ages 16 - 24 for our first ever white Christmas and winter fun. The O'Neill's are perfect hosts; there when you need them and doing their own thing the rest of the time.

The guest house is next door to their home but you would never know. Set next to the Gallatin River with mountains around you, this is a marvelous setting. The house fit all of us very comfortably. Everything you need is here, washer\dryer, excellent kitchen, comfortable beds, 2 fireplaces, a large dining room and plenty of outdoor relaxing area both front and back. Freezing your toes off to run to the hot tub and sit under the Montana sky is about as good as it gets. Just fabulous. This guest home just cannot be beat for the price. We would absolutely stay here again and most likely will.

Seeing moose tracks in the snow in the morning and even watching one late one night was quite amazing. The Big Sky Mountain area offered numerous activities aside from skiing if you want to explore. The best thing about the O'Neill guest house is that at the end of the day, worn out from playing in the snow, we felt like we were coming home. We have 2 days remaining on vacation and it's going to be difficult to leave.

Terry and Carolyn, thank you. You provided a memory of a lifetime and we will be forever grateful and are very blessed by your kindness and hospitality.

Owner's Response: WOW!!! What a wonderful review you have written about Big Sky and our guesthouse. Guests like you make it enjoyable for us to share our place. It was a pleasure to get to know all of you over a nice glass of wine and hear about all your Big Sky adventures. I don't think you missed out on much!!! The dogsled ride is my favorite and I was so happy you chose an incredibly beautiful day to go on it. Have a safe trip home and we hope to see you again soon.

What a dilemma ... unlimited winter activities or just sitting in front of a picturesque window watching it snow. Skiing is only minutes away at Big Sky Resort and with virtually no lift lines, you can ski to your heart's content. Cross-country ski on beautifully groomed runs at the prestigious Lone Mountain Ranch. Snowshoe out the back door on adjacent National Forest. Snowmobile trails are across the highway from our guesthouse with some of the most spectacular views you'll see anywhere. Flyfish the blue ribbon Gallatin River with 2000 feet of river frontage on thirteen acres. Call today for reservations.
