About Carolyn & Terry ONeill
Terry and Carolyn O'Neill, Big Sky, Montana residents for 25 years.
Carolyn & Terry ONeill purchased this House in 1991
Why Carolyn & Terry ONeill chose Gallatin Gateway
Terry and I were on our way to Yellowstone National Park when we spent the night in Big Sky, Montana. Needless to say, the next day was a glorious July day and we immediately fell in love with Big Sky. After extending our stay another 4 days, we began planning our next trip to Montana to ski Lone Mountain. That January we knew it had won our hearts and we began our search for the perfect property. In 1991 we purchased our thirteen acre paradise on the Gallatin River. It was the best decision we have ever made!!

There is a reason every review of this amazing space is so positive! We have done numerous VRBO's and this experience was by far the easiest and most true to what is depicted - and yet so much more. Almost hesitate to describe the beauty of Big Sky and the ONeil guest house because we plan on returning soon and are afraid it wont be available ;) but Carolyn and Terry deserve the accolades for the beautiful space they have made available. The house was exactly as pictured, and very clean! The bedrooms were perfect for our 2 families of 4 with the most comfortable bedding and sheets. We ate just about every dinner at the house and the kitchen was more than adequately stocked and with quality cookware and knives! Plus eating on the deck can't be beat - even with the snow in June! We divided our time between hiking, fishing and zip lining in the Big Sky area and touring Yellowstone. The attention to detail in the house (provisions , popcorn machine, decor, Bose speakers, quality bedding and towels, and well maintained deck and hot tub) and the natural beauty of Big Sky is quite simply one of the best experiences ever with VRBO and we were very sad to leave! Beware of the Vacation Blues after leaving here!
Terry and I certainly enjoyed meeting you, your family and your Texas friends. We are so happy to hear all the wonderful things you have said about the ONeill Guesthouse and Big Sky. We love sharing the things we have to offer with our guests and you were busy doing most of them the week you were here. There are still many more adventures to experience so do come back to visit us again. Have a great summer and thank you for taking such good care of our place. That is always appreciated and noticed!!
Our best fly fishing vacation ever!
Saying that the O'Neil guest house is amazing, is really a major understatement. Carolyn and Terry were great hosts, and available for the occasional questions.
For our trip there were five of us total. We're mostly fly fishermen, and we have been doing regular trips to SW Montana, and NE Idaho for a number of years. This is the first time that we've stayed in one location for the duration of our two week trip, and it was better than we could have possibly imagined.
Being directly on the riverfront gave us access to some really great fly fishing where we could walk out, either upstream or downstream on the Gallatin river, and fish for a few hours, or the morning or afternoon, with easy access back to the house for a break, should we want one. Also being near Big Sky, we could drive up towards Yellowstone, or further down below Big Sky for easy access futher afield.
We had booked the O'Neil place nearly a year before arrival, and as such, had a lot of time to anticipate the trip. Frequently in life, many things don't live up to expectations. In the case of the O'Neil Ranchhouse, this was definately not the case. We loved the stocked kitchen, a great bar area which turned into our hub to sit at chat for breakfast or coffee before a day out fishing, adn the living room for more casual relaxing or reading.
The desk, was wonderful! A great place to sit in the afternoons and have a drink, look out across the trees and listen to the river. Sleeping at night hearing the river was another bonus, and the grill on the deck was put to good use a number of times, as was the hot tub after long days wading the rivers and fishing. Leaving the O'Neil guesthouse left us immediately wishing we were starting our vacation all over again, and we've already made arrangements to come back again next year. We can all hardly wait.
Terry and I are so happy to hear we lived up to your expectations! A year to think about our place can make it difficult to measure up to. Glad we did. It's nice for us to see fly fishermen walking the Gallatin River early in the morning looking for that special spot of the day. In addition, we love to hear the success stories of catching rainbows and browns. Thank you for all your nice comments about our guesthouse and we look forward to your return next year.
Wonderful as always Our family has been coming to the O'Neill Guesthouse for several years and have never been disappointed! Always clean and well taken care of. Especially enjoy the Gallatin River and the sound as it flows by and the hot tub on the deck! Will be going back next year.
It was great having you and your family return to the ONeill Guesthouse. Thank your granddaughter for choosing Big Sky as the family vacation this year. It was flattering to think we were at the top of her list of places to go. You planned a week full of wonderful experiences for her and the rest of the family. We look forward to your visit next year.
Great place for 4 couples trying to get away! We enjoyed our time here and will be back soon!
I loved seeing your two motorcycles on the trailer behind your truck. I knew you would head up Buck Ridge for some awesome views. It's a real plus having the trail head so near our guesthouse. Looking forward to your return.
We had a wonderful time at the O'Neill guesthouse. The pictures do not do it justice! Lots of family memories made. Despite the rain. We still had a great time. We traveled back and forth to Yellowstone several times. Great hikes and lots of site seeing both in Yellowstone and Big Sky. Hot tub was amazing, nice and relaxing after a long day. The calming sounds of the river made it even more relaxing. The house it self was very spacious with great amenities. Lots of board games, popcorn maker with supplies, nicely equipped kitchen, great beds and comfy sheets. They even supplied bear spray!
This was our first time to the area, our family vacations usually are to the beach....so glad the kids asked to do something different this year!
Thank you so much Terry and Carolyn for having us.
Well, we are glad you changed your regular family trip from the beach to Montana. It was pleasure having you stay with us. There are still many more hikes and sites to see so maybe you'll return for another visit sometime in the future. You treated our guesthouse like your home. Thank you for that special attention. We appreciated it.
Big Sky Adventure
Our group of 5 travelers have skied at Big Sky annually for over 15 years. This is by far the best rental we have ever had. Not being slope side is a blessing! The pictures of this rental do not do it justice. The kitchen is superbly equipped, all bedrooms/bathrooms were great. Dealing with the owners was straight-forward and simple. Their visit during our stay was so kind! We had skiers and fishermen on this trip. The peace and beauty of this property is hard to translate until you experience the snow, the hot tub and the sound of the river. We prepared meals, were always able to get to the slopes before 9am. Free parking at Big Sky with a simple shuttle to the base access was perfect! Why pay the slope side rental premiums? We shopped at the grocery stores in the village, prepared the majority of our meals in the exceptionally equipped kitchen and ventured out for dinner in the valley. Fantastic, beautiful, affordable, and simple. We won't be staying slope side ever again!
Thank you for your review of our Guesthouse. It is always comforting to know that our guests enjoyed their time here and were able to do so without any glitches, as far as accommodations are concerned. While being slope side can have some attributes, it can also be busy with hustle and bustle. We have never had a complaint that the 12 miles to the ski base area is a hindrance. It's serene looking out and seeing the river and mountain vistas from where you're staying.
It was a pleasure meeting you and having you stay with us. Hope to see you again in the future.
What a dilemma ... unlimited winter activities or just sitting in front of a picturesque window watching it snow. Skiing is only minutes away at Big Sky Resort and with virtually no lift lines, you can ski to your heart's content. Cross-country ski on beautifully groomed runs at the prestigious Lone Mountain Ranch. Snowshoe out the back door on adjacent National Forest. Snowmobile trails are across the highway from our guesthouse with some of the most spectacular views you'll see anywhere. Flyfish the blue ribbon Gallatin River with 2000 feet of river frontage on thirteen acres. Call today for reservations.
I hope you are having a great time in Big Sky. We’ll try to see you before you leave but it is always helpful for our cleaning service if I can tell them what time our guests will be leaving. Check out time is 10:00 but if you will be leaving before then please email me the time you will depart so I can let them know. They clean three homes on Saturdays so that is real helpful for them to best schedule their time. Many guests ask what needs to be done to the guesthouse before they depart. It's helpful to have all the dishes in the dishwasher and trash taken to the blue trash can in the driveway. There is no need to strip beds, wash towels, clean fireplace or popcorn machine. Our cleaning service expects to do these choirs. Thank you for visiting our guesthouse and Big Sky, Montana. We hope to see you again. Carolyn & Terry
