I almost don't want to write this since I have NO interest in other people finding out about the place....but I felt I owed it to Mark since he is the MAN!! Cant say enough good things about this cabin and its proprietor..j.us the kind of place I want to stay when riding Powder!
We all had a great time at the Wirth property. Mark, the property owner, made sure we were prepared and was in contact a couple times during the weeks leading up to the stay. He also met us in Truckee and escorted us to the house, which was fortunate since it would have been difficult to find otherwise. The house was beautiful and situated just above the Truckee River, with a small sled run leading towards the river. The house is perfect for those skiing Squaw, with the turnoff from Highway 89 just 1.5 miles from the Squaw entrance. We did all our shopping in Truckee, which was about 10 minutes away if there was no traffic from skiers. Highly recommend having breakfast at least once at the Squeeze Inn in Truckee. Stopped there on the way home and it's what breakfast should be. Great stuff.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cabin. The owner was very considerate. He had everything ready for us. The cabin is clean and cozy. It has that true 'cabin in the woods' feel - that we have missed in other larger housing developments up here. It was truly beautiful being right on the river with a nice area to explore. Thank you!
In the winter, just be prepared/forewarned because there is no garage. But that wasn't a problem for us at all!
We really enjoyed staying at the cabin over the Thanksgiving weekend 2015. It had just snowed, so everything was extra beautiful. The cabin features a 3-story high window wall looking out to trees and the Truckee river. Upstairs two rooms with full beds and one shared bath, downstairs king bed with attached bath that is also open from the outside hallway. In the upper 3rd floor loft area has four twin beds for the kids. That room was a little cold at first and it took a while for the heat to rise. It might be worth putting an efficient space heater there so that guests don't crank up the heat and overheat the lower levels. The spiral staircase was really cool and enjoyed by the kids (ages 4 to 12). Kitchen was well equipped. Easy to get to, right in between Truckee and Tahoe City (about 15 min to either city for supplies). If you were there right after a really big storm, it might take a while for the bridge to be plowed. You should ask the owner how quickly they come. It was all cleared before we go there. We were worried that noise from Highway 89 would be annoying, but we didn't hear anything inside. Owner was very responsive and very helpful. Would love to stay there again!
I was only here for two nights with my family, but it was a great stay. The house is adorable and charming with a great back deck overlooking the woods along the Truckee River. Mark greeted me on arrival and showed me all around the house. Thank you! Hope to stay again soon.
I booked the cabin as a surprise weekend getaway for my husbands birthday, it was the 2 of us and our daughter staying, since the cabin easily sleeps 10, we had more than enough room....the furnishing and beds were all very comfortable and in great condition, the cabin was very clean...the cabin was well equipped with most everything we needed (could have used a larger variety of cooking utensils and mixing bowls) but we made do just fine with what was there (there is a wonderful supply of pans, cups, dishes, silverware and to our surprise and very nice set of sharp knives for our use - we've rented vacation destinations before and always needed to bring our own knives as the ones provided were never sharp)....I have to say, at first I was a little disappointed as the reason for renting this cabin was that it was advertised as on the river (my husband loves the river) and when we arrived we found the river to be more of a creek (nothing due to the fault of the owner, I should have realized that with the current draught conditions, the river would be very low)....overall, we very much enjoyed our stay and did spend some time at the river, which was enjoyable for all....we also very much enjoyed having breakfast on the fabulous back deck overlooking the river!
