Great place to stay
We were there for whitewater rafting. The cabin is awesome! Brenda is very friendly and her recommendation for restaurants is very helpful as well. All of us enjoyed the stay and I am sure we will come back!
Clean & cozy
Brenda was wonderfully attentive to our needs before & during our stay.
This is an older cottage (exactly like pictures show) but everything was very clean and there were plenty of linens & kitchen amenities for all 7 of us.
Be aware that there is no dishwasher, but there is a full-sized stove, refrigerator & microwave.
The hot tub was awesome!!! We had cool wet weather so we didnt get to use the firepit but there was plenty of firewood and a nice big forepit.
We had a dangerous rafting experience with New & Gauley Rafters, so I would not recommend them.
We went on a 3 hour horse ride with Gary at Horsecreek Riding Stables. He took us to a gorgeous waterfall spot but he called at the last minute to push back our start time and it was a 30 minute drove from the meeting spot to his home/stables. It's a one man operation so it took 30-40 minutes to get saddled up. Needless to say, it was a great ride but it did take up our entire day. And it's CASH ONLY even though he took our credit card to hold our spot.
A Wonderful place to stay!
My group and I enjoyed our stay at the Evergreen and are looking forward to returning! The cabin was clean, well equipped and had lots of room and a wonderful layout for enjoying time with family and friends. The property is beautiful and twice we saw deer.
Thank you Brenda & Fred!
Again, we have the best guests staying with us, ones who enjoy the property, the area and the adventures located very near the cabin. With the colder weather the fireplace is ready to light on your arrival, lots of dry firewood provided so that you can stay cozy and warm. The sparkling clean hot tub helps warm you up after a cool day of hiking or just enjoying the beautiful New River Gorge area.
The deer are out now eating in the newly mowed fields and the turkey are busy catching grasshoppers in those same fields. The property has not had any type of chemicals put on the fields or yards since 1987, I believe we have so much wildlife because they know it is very clean here inside and out.
Very cozy and private!!!
My family and my best friends family stayed at the Evergreen and we loved it!! It was very clean and plenty of room for all eight of us to sleep!! The teenagers loved the fire pit, the guys loved the grill, us mom's loved that the kitchen had every thing we needed in it, and we all loved the Hot Tub!!! Brenda provided towels for us each day we were there, we just put our dirty towels on the porch that morning and when we came back we had a basket of fresh clean towels!!! There is a nice big table that we were all able to sit at to start our mornings and a table and places to sit at on the back porch were we would all gather to eat and talk about all our adventures we had that day!!!! The one time I talked to Brenda she seemed very sweet and we never had any problems, but I'm very confident if we did, she would've been right there to take care of it!! I highly recommend staying at the Evergreen Historic cottage, we all loved it!! I hope the next time we stay, we will have more time to do some hiking on the trails here!! Thank you Brenda for an awesome stay!!!
The Smith's and Riffle's
Thank you Smith and Riffle Families for having chosen the Evergreen for your New River Gorge area visit and for leaving the cabin very nice. The Evergreen is a historic property where the driveway is part of the James River and Kanawha Turnpike, the main route from Virginia to points West during the Civil War. Inside the cabin are chestnut cupboards and mantle that have been there since before the Civil War. The cabin has plenty of room for eight people, a dining room table for eight, lots of seating on the covered, very private back porch where the hot tub is sparkling fresh for every guest visit. Firewood is provided for the fire pit and the fireplace is ready to light when booked in the colder months. The Evergreen has WiFi, premium cable and all the conveniences of home. The beds are made, the pillowcases ironed, flowers on the dining room table for each guest visit. A welcome note is on the cabin door when guests arrive with the telephone number where I can be reached for problems, information or other needs a guest may have. There are lots of adventures awaiting visitors in the area with most being within 12 miles of the Evergreen.
I inquired about boat parking 3 times and was told it was not an issue, IT was an issue!
The plumbing in the house bathrooms/showers need serious updating!
Was not worth the money.
Would not recommend or return!
The owner yelled at me for driving on the grass when I first arrived despite the driveway being nothing but gravel and potholes and barely wide enough for my F150?
Our party had 2 boats and parking was an issue.
I feel the owners were less than forthright about this situation.
There have been many boats, recreational vehicles including a 40 foot motor home that had no difficulty in turning around at the cabin. Obviously this man was not an experienced driver with a truck and boat that he could not handle. The driveway is part of the historic James River and Kanawha Turnpike and is not a super highway, he was just asked not to drive on the soft grass but to come up to the cabin where he could easily turn around on firm ground. We helped him turn around and park.
The plumbing issue was that they did not know how to operate a shower lever much like ones in hotels that you turn slowly to find the temperature that was comfortable. Except for the food thrown out on the lawn the cabin was left in good condition. The hot tub was popular and the firewood provided for the fire pit was definitely used.
Loved the cabin! It is an older place but loved it! Owner close but still very private and peaceful. Would rent again.
As always, we have the best guests visiting our cabin. The Evergreen is an older cabin, a section of it is pre-Civil War, inside it has original chestnut cupboards and mantle, it is very cozy and inviting. The back porch is very private with the porch having lots of comfortable seating, table and chairs for outdoor dining, sparkling clean hot tub, charcoal grill, picnic table and the fire pit with wood provided is just off the porch. The cabin has Wi Fi, air-conditioning, premium cable, is fully equipped so that all you have to bring is charcoal for the grill. The Evergreen is conveniently located within 12 miles of most activities in the New River Gorge area, there are hiking paths on the property with great views of the area. Attention to detail is important so that our guests have a great visit.
