|Minimum Stay||3 - 4 nights|
This is one of the few old houses in Greece. Old Nafplio itself is a unique historic quarter of modern Greece and is unique in its preservation of the old Veneitian architecture. Ours is one of the finest houses in Old Nafplio and one of the very few with a garden. You can sit in the garden under the shade of the orange trees and look out at the sea.
Despite its age the house is solid and well resourced. It was fully refurbished ten years ago and has modern pluming, wiring and utilities. It is air-conditioned throughout with the usual washer, dryer, fridge-freezer and television. Due to the ubiquity of wireless internet and the internet cafes so close in the square we don't keep an internet connection at the house, but it is free in a number of locations 100 yards away.
There are two double bedrooms and four single. You can easily sleep eight adults in the house and if you wish to can add a cot or two. There are two bathrooms, one with a bath and one with a shower.
The house is laid out over two floors with a connecting external staircase. The bedrooms are upstairs with one of the double bedrooms and the kitchen and living areas downstairs. Therefore it creates some additional privacy for parties with two separate families if required.
The garden is about 100 sqm and furnished with wooden tables and chairs. There is a hammock which you can rest in under the shade of the orange trees. This is a lovely area to rest, eat and socialize. You can be 100 yards away from the main square here and yet be in total peace and seclusion.
Once you decide you have had enough of relaxing in the charm of this old house, you have so many ways to spend your day. By foot you can walk to the local town beach, or 2 miles to the huge crescent sandy bay of Karathona.
The town itself is a treasure trove of bars, restaurants, shops and museums which you could easily spend a week or more exploring.
Then there are the cultural sights. Again by foot you can walk to all of the local churches and ruins, take a short boat ride to the castle in the bay, or even climb the alleged 999 steps to the top of the Palamidi castle on the hill behind the town.
By car you can drive to the old theatre at Epidavrous, the ruins at Tirinth, and down the coast to such other ports as Astros and Leonidi in the Argolida. Further inland the Peloponnese is a store of natural delights, with skiing and caves at Kalavrita and the wildernesses of the plateaus of Argolida taking you back centuries in time.
At home it is a sanctuary which you need not leave. On foot you can never get bored or run out of options. With a car, you are at the centre of one of Europe's great natural playgrounds. You can only enjoy yourself, whatever your mood, interests or resources.
We are a family of an English man and a Greek woman, who gradually filled this house with five children. The romance of Nafplio is entwined with the romance of our marriage, family and lives. We were married in the church next to this house and have taken almost every holiday with our growing children in Nafplio.
This house is our home and we present it as such to our guests. We have shared our happiest moments there and wish you a glimpse of the same pleasures.
Benjamin purchased this villa in 2000
We visited this house early in January 2000. It was shuttered, dark and dusty. We both knew we would buy it within moments of walking though the gate. Simply put it has a magic which is palpable. You can feel the special energy of the home on your arrival.
It has a unique position being so quiet and yet literally next to the main square, with views and a garden which are very rare in Old Nafplio.
It is a small reminder of the old Europe in a country which is mostly brand new. There is a pleasure here for those who value history and culture, but also the amenities of modern life. It is a perfect home for life and love.
This is one of the few genuinely old homes in an historic quarter in Greece. It is also fully refurbished and modern in use. Very few houses in Old Nafplio have a garden and the view over the bay is lovely.
We listed this house since 2009 on a different website. Please see the reviews at https://www.rentalsystems.com/Advert.aspx?ref=60996&tab=3
We have just spent a wonderful fortnight holiday in this house which was even more special than the description. The courtyard garden filled with citrus, pomegranate, and bougainvillea with its view over the houses to the port is very unusual in the old town, and a wonderful place to escape the heat and eat and read in. The house is really traditional greek but with great beds, and every kind of modern equipment including wifi and bathrooms. Spare towels and bedding also available. On The day it rained all day, the sitting room was a comfortable retreat. The drawn thread work curtains and other items are lovely. It was beautifully clean. Swimming is a short walk and all the lovely walks around Nafplio are just on your doorstep. We came from the airport and visited all the historic sites on the buses and through walking, including into the hills, just hiring a car for mistras. Finding the house was not difficult and we were made very welcome. We will definitely return.
The stay started off poorly with the mother of the owners still cleaning the house 2 hours after we arrived
It wasn't here fault the previous visitors trashed the place
The poor women was in tears if they booked through your website ban them
Great location great views needs a little updating but it is a family home not a holiday home
Don't expect lots of white goods lot of toys for young children
It was a really enjoyable experience to stay in a very old part of town and experience a garden setting with views and all the necessities. The upstairs is separated from the downstairs with key access, but everything you need is there. Great for smaller children as well. Our tween and teen enjoyed themselves though and had nothing bad to say either…surprisingly! We would recommend this location to friends and family. Lots of space!
We couldn't have been happier with the location! Right in the center of the old town, very easy to walk everywhere. Other reviews are correct that it's difficult to bring your car close to drop off luggage so pack light. The house itself is beautiful. Incredible courtyard and balconies with views of the castle, the harbor, and the town. This would be a great house for families because there are so many bedrooms - each has childrens' books and toys. We were a group of adults so we didn't end up using much of the house! But, the ability to close the courtyard gate was perfect for us because we brought our small dog. It doesn't have many modern amenities (no internet, small showers, etc.) but we would definitely stay here again. Thank you for the wonderful weekend!
Our family of 5 (kids ages 7, 7 and 10) stayed for 3 nights in late December 2015. The house was wonderful - it was great to be in a real old Greek house. It felt really comfortable and was nicely furnished. There are of course funky things that come with an old house, like having to go outdoors to get from one level to the other (bedrooms upstairs, kitchen and LR downstairs) but it wasn't a big deal. The kids loved being in a child-friendly house, complete with books and toys. The kitchen was well-appointed, had everything we needed (though we didn't ever really cook). The views were great, and the patio with lemon, orange and other citrus trees was marvelous. Benjamin was very helpful in advance, as were the local contacts, in spite of weak English. It's hard to get a car near it, so pack accordingly. Nafplio is a wonderful town - we enjoyed every minute of our stay. Also, if you want a local walking tour outside of town, contact Stavroula at Grecopaths.gr.
We stayed here for two nights and would have loved to stay longer! Slightly difficult to find and it's a little bit of a hike from your car to the house with your luggage but it was definitely worth it. The owners were very nice and easy to work with. The house was beautiful, clean, and well equipped. We were especially grateful for the air conditioning! We had our 16month old son with us and he loved all the kids toys and activities. Thanks for everything!
We fell in love with this house the moment we saw it. It has wonderful views but most of all a great sense of calm and warmth. We have spent lots of holidays with our family there going to the square for coffees, swimming in the nearby beaches, having delicious meals in town. In the evenings it is so nice just to sit in the garden and enjoy the fresh air and the orange trees or stroll by the see front with the Bourzi all lit up enjoy a drink in one of the many beautiful cafes, excellent place also for a nice breakfast by the seafront.
The town has great shopping and a wide selection of restaurants and cafes. There are two gorgeous castles in town one of them in the sea. From the house you can see the big castle on the hill all light up in the night. It is quite the site.
Of course by now we have our favourite restaurants that we are more than happy to share with you but most importantly the ice-cream shop own by our dear friend Marcelo and his sister Claudia. The best ice-cream in the world.
There are three beautifully made and well organised museums , a library and a Gallery with beautiful paintings from the Greek revolution. There is also a Harvard organised data base for old manuscripts well worth the visit.
Nearby is Tiryntha, Argos, Mykines and the famous old theatre Epidavros.
Once you are exhausted of the local culture, there are good beaches nearby, one with water-sports and facilities in the summer. You can rent cars, motorbikes, bicycles and even occasionally a sailing boat locally. It is a great base for sightseeing in the region.
Nafplio is a town that will stay in your heart for ever and our house will make this experience even so more warm and comfortable. Being situated in the heart of Old Nafplio you can walk anywhere and enjoy restful and stress free days.
