Piazza San Lorenzo, 5
“The Wing” apartment is part of the historical “Lotterenghi della Stufa Palace. Centrally located in Lorenzo il Magnifico’s Florence, the palace is only a few steps from the renown Piazza del Duomo (Cathedral Square) where it offers breathtaking views of the Church and of Piazza San Lorenzo. The apartment’s charm and unique character make it an ideal setting for a stay in Florence.
It can be easily reached on foot (10 minutes) from the Central Railway Station of Santa Maria Novella. Also within walking distance are the main museums and monuments as well as the famed Florentine shops, the small handicrafts shops, the characteristic “trattorie”, and the famous San Lorenzo market with its typical and varied products.
The apartment (approx. 100 sq.mt.) is on the second floor, with elevator.
It was completely refurbished in 2010. In keeping with the owner’s intentions and the prescribed laws meant to protect the palace’s historical value, the structure and original decorations have been entirely preserved.
Nonetheless, the bathrooms and kitchen, as well as the electrical wiring and the plumbing, have been totally renovated, and now provide all the comforts of modern life.
“The Wing’s” drawing-room and the bedroom windows afford a splendid view of the Square and the Church of San Lorenzo as well as a bird’s eye view of the top of the “Cupolone” and Giotto’s bell-tower. Large windows as well as the absence of any other nearby buildings provide a great deal of light in the rooms while the apartment’s location in a strictly quiet and pedestrian area offers peace and tranquillity.
In order to maintain a unique and characteristic ambience, the apartment has been furnished with antique pieces of furniture from the owner’s family.
The kitchen is fully equipped with all that is needed to cook a meal to be enjoyed at home.
The apartment’s large sitting-room has a sofa-bed (140 cm. wide) while the master bedroom has a king-size bed (160 cm. wide) and private bath (with bathtub). The double bedroom, instead, has two single beds, and its own bathroom (with shower).
Independent central heating, washing machine, dishwasher, hair-dryer, free wireless connection, microwave oven, iron. Bed, bathroom, and kitchen linen are also provided (changed weekly.)
PRICES will be calculated following the season and the needs of the guests; in case of air conditioning, the consumption will be calculated apart.

Almost a 'beginner' in this activity, the owner intends to offer a cosy apartment, easy to live in, with all the utilities necessary to make a comfortable holiday. The owner lives near the apartment and will be pleased to assist guests in their needs and programs.
Orsola di Serego Alighieri purchased this apartment in 2008
Even if not 'Florentine', the owners knows the city, especially its centre, very well. Thanks to its characteristics, its placement and its unique view, 'Apartment L'Ala' is an unique opportunity to visit Florence and all its monuments, museums with beautyful art collections and elegant shops.
The area of San Lorenzo is a mix of antique elegance and real Florentine daily life. Staying at 'Apartment L'Ala'offers the possibility of enjoying them both.
We received a warm welcome from Orsola, even though our train delayed our expected time of arrival. After explaining where everything was and how it worked we were left to enjoy our stay.
The location of the apartment is perfect, allowing us to return to drop purchases off then return to more shopping. The central market is just a few steps away. The station is only a few minutes walk away. The galleries and museums are all within a few minutes walk away.
We had a lovely time in this lovely apartment. I would highly recommend staying here.
We stayed in Apartment Ala for a week from 16 August 2016 with our two children aged 8 and 9. The apartment is a really good size with plenty of space to hang clothes in the dressing room. The air conditioning was important for us and it worked really well and wasn’t noisy. We weren’t bothered by noise from outside either. Orsola, the owner, could not have been more helpful, giving advice both before our trip and once we were there. We arranged to have a cooking lesson from a really lovely lady who lives upstairs. She took us to the market and we cooked enough food for three days.
The apartment is very central, just a few minutes’ walk from the Duomo, 15 minutes from Ponte Vecchio, 10 minutes from the train station and 2 minutes to a supermarket. We bought Firenze cards, 72 Euros for 72 museums etc over 72 hours (if you are European children go free with your cards). I was dubious whether we would actually get priority access but we really were able to skip all the queues and walk straight in everywhere we visited, including the Uffizi and Galleria dell’Accademia. We paid an extra 5 Euros or so and then got ‘free’ travel for 3 days (only stamp your ticket once to show the date you start using it on). There was a bus stop right outside the apartment and a phone App to tell you when the next bus was due. There are lots of air conditioned little buses which run very frequently and it saved our children from getting too tired walking around in the heat. We also caught a tram from the train station and went two stops followed by a walk through the park to a lovely outdoor swimming pool. All in all we had a fantastic holiday and would totally recommend this apartment.
Lovely spacious property, the owner was on the doorstep to meet us. The apartment has air conditioning and is looking out over the lovely San Lorenzo square with easy walking to all the attractions that Florence has to offer. Only a ten minute walk from the train station if you go the right way. We would highly recommend this as a great place to stay for a family of four. Everything you would need, ironboards washing machines and two bathrooms which was great with teenagers. All very clean and tidy and a lovely owner to offer any help or assistance during your stay.
My family and I stayed at this apartment for 9 nights while visiting Florence. The apartment is even larger than it looks in the photos. The location is truly perfect. We were walking distance to everything, including the Duomo, San Lorenzo leather markets, Ufitzi, and Sante Croce. It was over 90 degrees every day, and the apartment had 3 new AC units in each of the bedrooms and living room. This was a great amenity in the heat. The apartment wifi worked perfect and never disconnected. It was helpful to have a washing machine during our 9 day stay as well. Orsola was a gracious host, and provided us with food and shopping recommendations upon arrival. She also arranged the cabs for my family when we were leaving Florence. She kept in constant communication with my family from when we booked the VRBO to when we left the apartment. I highly recommend this property to anyone travelling to Florence.
The apartment was very clean. It sleeps 4: 1 bed for 2 people and 2 single beds. Two big bathrooms, one with a shower and the other has a tub. We would have preferred showers in both so we had to share the one bathroom for this purpose. The apartment was spacious. While we didn't spend much time there, our favorite part was hanging out in the living room with the windows open while listening to local musicians play below. We did this everynight before we ventured out to dinner. It was also nice to have a full kitchen so we could eat breakfast each morning before starting our daily activities. Apartment is a 1 minute walk to the world famous Duomo and we climbed over 400 stairs to the top. A 2 minute walk to the market where we bought fresh fruit for breakfast everyday and went twice for dinner. Restaurants are on the 2nd floor of the market and are open until 10pm. It's a great gathering place for locals. Shopping for leather goods is right outside your door with streets full of vendors. The apartment owner is available for anything you might need during your stay. On the last day, she came over to say goodbye and order us a taxi to the train station. The station is a 5 minute walk but we had lots of luggage that we didn't want to drag along the cobblestone streets. The only reason I didn't give this apartment a 5 was the the early morning noise of the vendors pulling their carts along the streets. In the big bedroom, you can't hear it as much but apparently in the 2nd bedroom (with the 2 single beds) the noise is more apparent. Other than the early morning noise, we loved the place. It has lots of Italian charm and character.
Terrific apartment, spacious..exactly as pictured on the website. Location is outstanding, overlooking San Lorenzo Piazza, lots of activity. Easy walking to entire city, restaurants, markets, attractions. Orsola is very helpful and quickly responds to any concern. We want to return!
