Pieve vecchia estate has been included inside the historical gazzette named 'Valdelsa Viva' among the forty cultural itineraries in the Valdelsa area, and it is located in the same site where once was the old Pieve(the name comes from the latin word plebs that means people's church).
The church had been consecrated Collegiata by Pope Innocenzo II in 1136, when , due to the schism, he was forced to leave Rome and was welcome by Pievano Bianco.
The property was partially ruined during the decades, then became a convent and was finally turned in to the priest's house during the 70th century, at that time,in 1706, they built the small curch,Cappella, that
is next to the main house,in memory of the Pieve.
The estate is one of the few that still keeps all the traces of the ancient times and its fascination.
It lies in the charming tuscan hills, sorrounded by cypresses, olive trees and vineyards.
The house has three floors: on the first floor there's a big kitchen with fireplace, living room , dining room and cellar.
On the second floor there's and ancient kitchen with a big fireplace, living room, library with fireplace and bed, two bathrooms(one with the thub, the other with the shower).
The third floor has four double bedrooms.
The owners live there now and then during the winter time, so it is completely furnitured with antique stuff.
The place is sorrounded by 30.000 square meters of land, in a very secluded and safe neighbourood, with a 6 x 12 private pool.
It is 2km from Castelfiorentino centre(Firenze) a nice town in the heart of Valdelsa, that has shops, supermarkets, a museum, hospital, railway station
with trains leaving for all the main destinantions(Siena30km.Firenze 45km,Pisa 45km,Livorno 55k)and all the tuscan coast.
We had a wonderful week at Casa Farsetti. The old traditional Tuscan house (with wonderfully ancient doors!) was charming and welcoming, the pool was nicely sized and Andrea, the host, was very nice and helpful with tips for restaurants and sites.
Andrea helped us organize a cooking class for the whole family one night, which was great fun.
We spent a very relaxing two weeks at this beautiful old home, which was an ideal spot to "get away from it all" while being able to do easy day trips to Florence, San Gimignano, Volterra, Siena and the secret gem that is Certaldo.
There's a Coop grocery store 10 minutes away in Castelfiorentino.
The house and pool feel very private, with lovely views and charming spots in the grounds for meals and picnics.
The pool has no fence but if your kids are swimming a bit it is fun for them as there is more shallow than deep.
The house feels very authentic and it's easy to imagine living there in another era - in a good way! The library was perfect for passing a few hours in the heat of the day.
The kitchen is well kitted out, but still enjoys a lovely old marble sink. Andrea, the host, arranged a cookery class at the house, which the whole family enjoyed. The chef was very sweet with the kids who lovely rolling out the pasta etc.
Comfortable beds and nice linen made sure we slept well.
Andrea, was relaxed and helpful and popped by every few days to check on us, clean the pool etc. but didn't interfere or feel intrusive.
He also booked us into a local agritourismo for a dinner one evening.
We were very sad to leave and definitely hope to return to what felt like the dream Tuscan holiday.
The Val d'Elsa is located in a strategic position, near the cities of Florence, Siena and Volterra. The development of this area in the past is due to the fact that then became an important crossroads of the Via Francigena and then the main artery of Tuscany. here is that often they fought the bloodiest battles between Florence and Siena, and it is here that we see monuments and villages not scratched by the passage of time.
The Val d'Elsa keeps countries like Monteriggioni, with its castle, the town of San Gimignano with its towers, as well as towns over time become important economic centers of Tuscany such as Poggibonsi and Colle Val d'Elsa. This area is not only art, culture and monuments, but can also be a destination for all those who love to eat well, enjoy fine wines such as Grenache, or appreciate that the vast landscapes of Tuscany and the whole Val d'Elsa in particular is can offer.
