About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, (4 w/basement) and 2 Baths, (Sleeps 10-12)

ONE CLOVEWOOD is in the town of High Falls. We are just a short drive to Main Street in High Falls and the Mohonk preserve. (The closest trailheads are the Clove Chapel or Spring Farm.)

The house is tucked away on the other side of Mohonk Mountain, nestled amidst towering trees and spacious lawn. Our custom-built home features high ceilings, skylights and big, open rooms. We love to cook, and our kitchen is equipped with high-end pots, pans and gear. The deck wraps around the back and side and connects to a perennial garden set within a flagstone path.

The home is 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths. [Note: 4th bedroom is in the basement and contains 1 queen and two twin beds]

Our house is ideal for:

1. weekends in the Gunks

2. bustling holidays with family and gatherings with friends,

3. quiet writing sessions

4. romantic getaways

It's a base for hiking, biking (kid + adult bikes available in the garage for your use) and climbing in the spring, summer and fall and makes for the perfect winter wonderland escape Jan-March.

It's a great home for cooking large family-style meals, playing games, swapping tales by the bonfire, and overall entertaining and creating memories. It's also very family friendly. We have two long rope swings, a baby swing, many board games, and a beautiful (and very popular) set of wood blocks and haba ball track.

The basement is the go-to spot for pre-teens and Dads. It contains a ping-pong table, Bonzini foosball table, upright piano, flat screen tv and 75-pieces of Brio train track and station accessories for our littlest guests.

The house is two miles from Mohonk Preserve and eight miles from Minnewaska Preserve, where you can enjoy world-class climbing, biking, running, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, cross-country skiing, ice-skating, and snowshoeing. Feel free to ask us about all the off the beaten track adventures we love, including waterfalls, remote cliffs, spectacular ridges with views of the Catskills and all the hidden pristine natural wonders. Downhill skiing at Hunter, Bell-Ayre, Wyndham & Plattekill is reachable through scenic backroads via Phonecia.

The house is equipped with a crib, child's twin, high chair, and a jogging stroller, a child's bike seat, children's bikes, children's swings, a baby swing and toys.

We're a short bike ride from the 330-year-old village of High Falls and ten minutes from the college town of New Paltz and Stone Ridge. Explore the area's charming historic towns, old stone homes, antique stores and abundant restaurants. There are also multiple bars, wineries in the area plus great antiquing, cafes, shopping, yoga centers, a climbing gym, movie theater.

We can direct you to local Historic sights in the immediate vicinity and surrounding Hudson Valley. And tip you off about our favorite farmer's markets to boot.

About Caroline Bollinger

I'm a former magazine editor and my husband is a professor of mathematics at New York City College of Technology. We live in Fort Greene, Brooklyn with our boys, 9 & 12. We appreciate our urban life all the more because we can get away. When in High Falls, we turn the kids roam and collect bugs; build labyrinths in the woods and roam the Preserve on their bikes. We hope (and believe!) you'll love our getaway as much as we do.

Caroline Bollinger purchased this house in 2006

Why Caroline Bollinger chose Hudson Valley

We became attached to the area in 1999, when we started traveling up together for a day of rock climbing. Two years later we were scouring local real estate ads. We looked for 22 months and were about to throw in the towel when we stumbled on the contemporary low-maintenance home we'd been seeking. It felt secluded, yet close to the preserve and friends in High Falls, New Paltz and Rosendale. So in spring of 2006 we purchased our place ONE CLOVEWOOD.

What makes this house unique

We like the comfort, openness and easiness of this house. It's hidden enough to feel like a weekend retreat. Yet it provides central access to all that we love in the area.

We come up with the kids to hike, bike, swim, fish, cook and relax and bbq with friends. The area offers so much of natures best that it's often hard to believe it's just 2 hours from NYC. Our giant tulip trees are home to orioles, finches and woodpeckers and owls. Our land also offers habitat to deer, woodchucks, frogs, a red fox--and one time even a black bear, to say nothing of our neighbors' free-ranging chickens! The house sits on several acres (as do others in the area), and the quiet is a nice antidote to the bustle of city life. Biking from the cliffs in the preserve back to our house, is a family favorite, there are carriage trails and gravel roads for all but about 1/4 mile. The hike to Bonticou is another must do.

We pick apples and pumpkins in the fall and let the kids get lost in the corn mazes and hay mazes at markets like the Wallkill, Jenkins and Calder Family Farm. Golfers will find a 9-hole course at Mohonk and 18 holes down the street at the Stone Dock Golf Course. Tennis players can play on a spectacular clay court with a view at Mohonk. There's also ample antiquing and even a vineyard.

We love to ski at Plattekill in winter. It's 15 minutes further than Hunter or Belleayre but we cherish the down home, old-school vibe. (It's hassle free and there's a great bar to boot!). My boys also love to ice skate up at Mohonk.

We take out-of-town guests to the DIA in Beacon, the FDR house and Vanderbilt mansions. We've also done cruises down the Hudson and trips to Red Hook and Hudson for antiques and enjoy the Hudson Valley culinary scene.

Had a wonderful stay. Could not ask for a better property. We have stayed at a lot of vacation properties over the years and this one has topped them all. Great job keeping the property in such great shape. Thank you!

Would definitely recommend

  • 4 of 5

Very beautiful clean and spacious. The kitchen was well supplied to cook, the queen beds were comfortable, and the living room was well suited to large gatherings. The foosball and ping pong tables were a very nice touch as well. Only concern was that the downstairs had a cement floor, which made it chilly in the winter time, but other than that it was wonderful.

Beautiful autumn get away!

  • 5 of 5

Really nice home in beautiful surroundings. Clean, comfortable, and well equipped with everything we needed (even ice packs for our lunch cooler). The 10 of us had plenty of space to relax after visiting Wallkill, Patterson & NYC. Although it is a bit of a drive to surrounding destinations, it was well worth it to be out of the city and in such a peaceful place. We are recommending this to our friends for sure!

Great Vacation Experience

  • 5 of 5

We had a very enjoyable, relaxing time staying at Caroline's house.

The house is nicely decorated, offers plenty of room, and the windows and French doors provide an abundance of natural light.

It’s situated in a secluded, quiet location surrounded by trees (If you’re arriving at night, bring a flashlight). The privacy and surrounding nature were some of the things we enjoyed most – in the morning we saw deer and roosters on the outskirts of the property.

Caroline, the host, was friendly and responsive. All correspondence was by email (we never met). She provided clear instructions for accessing the house and using the amenities. The area guide she wrote, provided electronically, with a hardcopy at the house, had helpful suggestions for nearby places of interest.

Even though the house is in a remote location, we had good cellphone reception with Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint (no one had an AT&T phone, so I can’t comment). When visiting surrounding areas, Verizon service was the best.

We're glad we chose ONE CLOVEWOOD and would definitely return the next time we’re vacationing in the area.

Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

Every room offers the perfect view......lush peaceful woods. The home was very organized, very clean. Beds were comfy. Our two boys loved the outdoor space, the basement and massive tub of Lego. Each morning and evening they looked for the family of deer who stopped by. We lounged and cooked and enjoyed the quiet. A visit to Westwind Orchard is a must, authentic and most delicious pizza. Don't want to leave....must come back!!!!

Very nice house, well equipped, roomy.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed ourselves and found the house comfortable and easy to gather in the living room or on the deck for socializing. Some improvements would be helpful:

1.It would be helpful for the mailbox to have a reflector number 1 so it can be seen in the day and night. The small black painted 1 isn't helpful.

2.It would be helpful to have the wifi password in the instructions. We never could get on the system.

3.It would be helpful to tell new renters in the instructions WHERE in the garage the key is. We had to call to find out it was on the left side of the small door frame.

4.It would be helpful to tell renters how to turn on the downstairs TV (Apple box) and the downstairs space heaters.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your feedback. We will look into a reflector for the mailbox. As for the other concerns: the wifi password, tv/apple tv instructions and access info is all clearly spelled out in the welcome letter I send. (note: this was emailed to the guest on Sept 21st). The wifi password/tv instructions are also listed in the hardcopy of my guide that's at the house.

We love the convenient access to all the hiking/biking trails, swimming and rock climbing in Mohonk Preserve and Minnewaska State Park. We also enjoy a bountiful selection of local food--both farmer's markets and restaurants and visiting the local towns on both sides of the Hudson.
