A wonderful find on sparkling Keuka Lake! East side, across from the Bluff. 90 feet of natural wade-in beach, and panoramic views of the lake from windows stretching the length of the cottage. Let the sound of the lake lull you into relaxation mode!
****See our website for many more photos and helpful links. The link to it is below, just below owner info.****
A large porch running the length of the cottage has an eagle view of the lake and the beach directly in front. It is perfect for reading, playing board games, watching the kids play on the shore, or just gazing at the lake. A queen bed nestled at one end of the porch lets you drift off to the sound of the waves, and wake to a glorious view of the lake. Inside find a cozy living room, a bedroom with queen bed, kitchen and bath (both recently updated). In the boathouse below you'll find an extra full-size refrigerator (perfect for your beach picnic needs), a washer and dryer, and a wide assortment of items for your convenience, from life jackets to water shoes.
All beds have mattress pads, pillows, launderable pillow covers, blankets, and comforters. Guests bring their own linens unless otherwise arranged.
Kitchen is fully equipped. For your outside enjoyment find a dock, picnic table, beach bonfire pit, and an anchored float.
Lazy, sunny summer days abound, but spring and fall on Keuka Lake are beautiful too. Curl up by the gas fireplace with a book, or visit nearby wineries, festivals, and attractions. Each season offers its own charm.
Activities and Attractions:
Fish from the dock, or bring your boat ... swim, boat, kayak, canoe, or just sunbathe on your floatable on the lake, on the dock, or on our large anchored float... Boats are acceptable and there is a launch very nearby. Dozens of wineries dot both sides of the lake, and don't miss gorgeous Watkins Glen State Park, just 20 minutes away.
Or visit the incredible Corning Glass museum; the Windmill (a large farm and craft market featuring Mennonite goods and crafts, 10 minutes away); the Glenn Curtiss museum in Hammondsport; and glider rides and the Soaring Museum at Harris Hill. Our website has a much more extensive list and links to the area.
This cottage was in our family for several generations before it was sold. The new owners carefully updated and improved that which needed it, while still retaining the laid-back cottage flavor. We were joyous when the opportunity came up to repurchase it, and wish to share the cottage, that great beach and view, and the whole Keuka experience with others.
Lisa purchased this cottage in 2013
Sunlight is our alarm clock (and if only that could be the case all year long rather than just this week), and it streams gently through the wall of windows that look out over the lake to the ‘Bluff’ beyond. I pad through the kitchen grabbing a cup of coffee from the Keurig (nice touch!) and make my way to the dock for my morning dip (I would have slept in a bathing suit if it were at all comfortable). The lake is crystal clear and refreshing and by the time I swim to the neighbor’s float and back I am alive and well and ready to face a full day of relaxation and rejuvenation.
Fully equipped (cable TV, wifi, non-motorized boats and kayaks) and just the right amount of rustic blend to create perfect authenticity and convenience. How I envy the lucky family that grew up here.
Evening cocktails accompany the grilling of epicurean meats from Morgan’s in Penn Yan and local corn. The meal is accompanied by the obligatory bottle of local wine (the list of wineries and varieties are extensive although we’re partial to Dr. Frank’s for chardonnay and Anthony Road for pinot noir).
Lather, rinse, repeat…has a week gone by already???? Sign us up for next year.
Having grown up in nearby Hammondsport, it was just natural to rent a cottage on Keuka Lake for our out of town guests. The Red Doors was nothing short of perfect for our needs. The cottage was up-to-date with all the modern amenities that you would ever need while holding onto the charm that goes along with lake living. From the spacious living quarters, the well equipped kitchen, the views of the Bluff from nearly every window in the house, the beachfront and dock, comfy lakeside chairs, fire pit, kayaks, and on and on, the Red Doors was like a little piece of paradise. One could tell that the owner had spent many a summer at the lake as she provided everything that would make your stay comfortable as well as memorable. The location was great - right in the middle of Wine Country. Area restaurants were either a short walk or a short drive away. There was plenty to do - or not do - but we always made it back to the lake for the most spectacular sunsets you can find anywhere! Our guests left feeling more relaxed than they had felt in a very long time. It was truly a wonderful vacation and many, many memories were made that will last a lifetime. We highly recommend the Red Doors!
The Red Doors cottage is a perfect, peaceful, private little cottage for a Finger Lakes vacation. It's well-located (easy and quick driving distance to Hammondsport and Penn Yan) and it's just lovely to have your own bit of beach-front. There's off-road parking for two cars, a fully equipped kitchen with everything you could need (more stuff than I have at home!) and two bedrooms with queen beds. We were the first visitors of the 2016 season (in mid-May) and while it wasn't sunny most of the time, we were able to have a fire on the beach (with smores) at night, and playing cards while sitting by the massive windows overlooking the lake is very relaxing.
There are so many wineries, distilleries, breweries, and creameryies in the region. Myer Farm Distillery was our favorite.
The hosts were VERY accommodating of our circumstances, very communicative, and very kind. You couldn't ask for better hosts.
We've stayed at the Red Doors for the last 3 summers. It is a perfect place to make memories. The beach is level and has a gradual slope into the water making it a perfect place for our young children to play and swim. The beach front is spacious enough for a family barbecue, and the downstairs fridge and storage area make cooking out a breeze. The cottage itself is clean and inviting. The owners always make sure we have everything we could possibly need. We've enjoyed sharing the lake with our children and plan to continue this family tradition. We always look forward to our Keuka Lake vacation!
Our stay at The Red Doors was awesome. The cottage was perfect. It had the classic lake cottage feel just like my grandparents' house when I was a kid. The location was excellent with wineries all around. We especially enjoyed the lake access and firepit right next to the water at night. We were there on our honeymoon and the owners were very thoughtful and even left a bottle of champagne for us. We highly recommend this cottage and would love to visit it again.
Having spent a lot of my youth here (since 1965) it was very comforting to return to the fold. Being there again with my own family and the owners making us feel like part of their family it felt as though we had never left. The cottage was warm, clean and cozy. The views and location as picturesque as I remembered. I have not been so relaxed in a long time. Kayaking with my son for the first time and fishing with my little niece are just a couple of the highlights. I look forward to coming back for years to come. WONDERFUL
So wonderful to be back here again! Keuka Lake was a magical place for our kids growing up, and that hasn't changed a bit. Can't say enough good things about this cottage and the owners. Very clean, comfortable and picturesque. The whole family was overjoyed with our stay here. So looking forward to coming back again next year.
