Four of us (all adults) spent a week at the home of Sondra and Diego in Rugarlo during May 2016. From the moment we booked, our hosts were extremely accommodating and remained easy to contact throughout.
Upon arriving we were greeted by a freshly cooked homemade lunch and wine (which was very welcome after an early start that morning!). Sondra and Diego’s house has a lot of charm. Once there, it feels like you are staying in the home of an old family friend rather than a typical vacation rental (which can often lack character).
The house has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The combined kitchen and sitting area (with small, satellite, TV) is very well equipped. The view from every window is outstanding.
The location of the house is rural, but this is part of its appeal. The beautiful nearby town of Bardi has several café/bars and restaurants (Il Pelicano and Due Spade) as well as a number of small (but excellent) shops.
Thank you Sondra and Diego for making our stay so special. It is a shame we had to leave!
We spent a lovely two weeks in the nice, characteristic house of Sondra and Diego in Rugarlo. The house is well-equipped: good kitchen, good bathrooms and good beds. There are a lot of beds but only two bedrooms so we sleept in the livingroom but that was no problem because the bed was good. Sondra and Diego are very coöperative, they agreed with a tent in the garden for extra guests for a few days. It is a very quiet place with a beautifull view over the mountains. We were very glad with the swimmingopportunity in the Ceno and the village Bardi very near. We can recommend this house for sure.

Dear Sondra and Diego
Thank you ever so much for a most friendly welcome to your beautiful house! (The cake and wine were delicious).
We enjoyed every minute of our vacation in the quiet and idyllic surroundings of Rugarlo; hope to go there again some day. Spectacular views from every window and every spot outside! We shall be recommending the place as an absolutely perfect holiday home for every member of any normal family. And the Thursday market in Bardi is second to none. Happy and smiling people all over the place.

i was there with my husband and three children. we bathed every day in the river ceno ( in varsi), we ate at Le vigne and Tosca excellent local tortelli and we hosted friends for barbecue or by the fireplace (the house has 10 real beds). incredible view on the mountains, exposure south east, a discreet Bambi and a fox paid us a visit in the garden. perfect, would suggest to anyone.
It was a wonderful stay at this lovely house with its fantastic view and the wonderful garden. My Girlfriend and me enjoyed it very much, as theres a lot to do and see in the surrounding area. If You want you can drive to the Seaside or go hiking in the hills or go to Parma or just stay at home and relax and enjoy the view. Its also nice that it doesnt get too hot there in the summer. Perfect holidays. Hopefully we can come back sometime.
The house is in a little village on the hill and enjoys sun and special breezes from the sea ( not too far from here it's about 80 km).It is far few kilometres from Bardi and Varsi. The summer in Valceno is a pleasant symphony: ,brightly days of sciented views and nights of singing crickets . You can start the day with a genuine breakfast in the garden, y can have yr lunch in the tree shade and if y wish your dinner at light candles under a romantic moon as the weather is mild in Summer . The clear river Ceno there down the hill , offers lots of fun and baths in its safe waters, small waterfalls and pools great for kids and adults. All around it's nature, on the other side of the valley, opposite the house raises mount Barigazzo with grazing animals and a mystery : Città d'Umbria of Celtic origins. To the North up there, y see the mountain Carameto full of strawberries and flowers , there you can see wild horses living there all the season. The Bardigiano horse is beautiful ! shy but confident , handsome in his bay coat and long wild mane. To the west of the house y see the fortress of Bardi with its ghost Moroello .The area is in the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza tourist route that counts dozen of castles and forts which you can all visit. Very close is the famous Via Francigena that, coming from France, brought pilgrims to Rome in ancient times.
This valley inhabitants are smiling and generous, they are Emiliani doc with international accent. In the restaurants that we call "Trattorie" you have homemade italian dishes every day.Tagliatelle, ravioli with wild herbs, Erbazzone , Potato pies . genuine meat and gamemeats , Porcini , our wood mushrooms , Prosciutto crudo and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese are always in menù.
Valceno is magic, in beeches and pines forests, covering all the around mountains, are plenty of deers, foxes, wild boars, hares and in last years somebody also see the Italian wolf tracks. The Apennines offer clear sunshining days and hills around lots of fun for kids and pleasant walks for adult. In this area a mild breeze comes from the sea and refreshes and makes pleasant the climate to enjoy the Summer time. What can you do here? Fantastic festivals and dances in country villages and historical castles are always up in Summer and Spring . Guided visits to cheese Parmigiano Reggiano factories/dairies . Parma is a place of art and culture exhibitions all the year long. Busseto is Giuseppe Verdi birthplace and his historical home is open to visitors. Medieval center of Castellarquato is rich in ancient towers and museums. Visits are greatly recomended to Compiano, Varano de' Melegari , Torrechiara castles. All to discover farmhouses and delightful charmy places all around . Expert local guides in Bardi organize exhiting trekkings to reach natural valleys and mountains.
Soon are the public swimming pools and Thermal resorts in Salsomaggiore , Sant'Andrea and Tabiano thermal centres . Not too far also the sea and the beaches of Liguria and Versilia in Tuscany ( 1h 45 min ) More other famous art localities Bologna,Ravenna, Pisa , Florence, Siena.
