3 Bedroom 2 Bathrooms With Stunning Ocean Views From Every Room
Swallow Cottage is luxurious architect designed 3 bedroom seafront stone/wood house with fantastic sea views from every room. The house is 10 metres from the sea with views of Galway, Connemara and the Aran Islands.
It is situated on the spectacularly beautiful Flaggy Shore, a national heritage site and one of the loveliest parts of the 'Wild Atlantic Way'. The spacious open living area has underfloor heating throughout the kitchen, dining room, the two bathrooms and lounge which also has a wood burning stove.
Our beautiful home has large french window/glass doors in every room with stunning sea views that open out into the garden just metres away from the ocean. Perfect to watch seals and dolphins in the bay and spectacular sunsets of Galway Bay with your BBQ.
Step outside the garden gate and a lovely sandy beach faces you. There are several family friendly sandy beaches in the area. A short walk along the coast is the highly rated seafront Linnanes Lobster Bar/Restaurant which serves deliciously fresh locally caught seafood and a great pint of Guinness. The local fisherman's wife sells fresh fish on the harbour just outside Linnanes.
General information. Swallow Cottage is located in the spectacular area of Ireland known as the Burren (irish meaning Great Rock) which is one of the finest examples of glacio limestone landscapes in the world. Formed 350 million years ago, the region is rich with historical and archeological sites. There are more than 90 megalithic tombs, dolmens older than 5600 years and ring forts including the exceptionally well preserved Caherconnell Stone Fort. It is also renowned world wide for its remarkable diversity of plants and animals.
The Cliffs of Moher is one of the most popular attractions of the area as are the Aillwee Caves, the most famous of the many thousands of ancient caves beneath the limestone mountains.
The Burren also has a long history of traditional Irish music which is played in many of the pubs throughout the area particularly in Doolin.
Swallow Cottage is midway (15 minutes drive) between the lovely coastal villages of Kinvarra, Co. Galway and Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare. Both offer a great choice in shops, restaurants, pubs and farmers markets selling locally produced produce.
The area has several excellent golf courses including the world famous Lahinch links course.

About Robert MacIver
My wife is an artist from the area and loved the unique location and wanted to live there since she was a child. We finally built our home in 2004 but we now live in England. We decided to rent to holiday visitors because we felt it was a waste to have such a beautiful home empty for most of the year.
Robert MacIver purchased this Cottage in 2004
Why Robert MacIver chose New Quay
Our house is a traditional stone cottage but is architecturally designed to have all the mod cons including underfloor heating as well as a wood burning stove. It has a top quality kitchen and furnishings. It is on the seafront with a safe walled garden and very short walk to a sandy beach, an art gallery and renowned seafood restaurant/pub.
What makes this Cottage unique
The stunning location overlooking Galway Bay. The house is near some fantastic coastal walks, beaches, prehistoric sites, castles and some of the world's finest golf courses.

We truly loved our stay at this cottage. It is in a breathtakingly beautiful location, beautifully decorated and well-equipped, and is perfectly situated for activities in and around the Burren. We truly enjoyed our walks along the shore and the local folks, to include Diane (who checked us in), were very cordial. Any future trips to Ireland would be sure to include Swallow Cottage.
So pleased you love the cottage and the breathtaking location. Hope to see you back soon!
Lovely Cottage with a Great View
Enjoyed a wonderful stay at Swallow Cottage. Quiet and peaceful, with a lovely view of the water. Plenty of room for our family of 6, with heated floors as a nice bonus. The kitchen was well stocked, to make preparing meals at home easy. Overall, a great place to call home while exploring the area around Galway and the Cliffs of Moher.
The view! The view! The view!!!!
We spent four nights in this little slice of heaven. We loved the heated floors, the wood burning stove, the large family dining table, the layout, glass doors in every room, the secluded feel of the cottage, the yard, and the view!
Diane, the caretaker was great-and had even set up a cot for us...which was much appreciated after a long day/night of traveling with 4 kids.
The area is amazing too-highly recommend Aillwee caves and birds of prey center, cliffs of Moher, and poulnabronne tolmen-all just minutes away.
So pleased you loved our house and area. You are welcome back anytime!
Perfect location, wonderful house
Swallow Cottage is a perfect family home with lots of space and great facilities – everything has been thought of by the owners, and the kitchen in particular is a cooks' paradise!
Easy to find, but in the most perfect tranquil location with awesome views of the Atlantic which is at the foot of the garden.
Great countryside location with Galway City less than an hour away too. Simply perfect. We'd love to stay again and would heartily recommend.
Thank you for your lovely review. You are very welcome to come back to stay whenever you want.
Very nice house. Clean and comfortable with a great view. Good place to sit out a hurricane.
A treasure on the flaggy shore
Swallow Cottage was our base to explore parts of county Clare and Galway with our friends from Barcelona. It was their 1st visit to Ireland and it didn’t take long for all of us to feel welcome to this very special home in a wonderful setting.
We loved the design of the house, the natural light and views from every room, especially the twinkling lights of Galway city across the bay at night. The kitchen is perfect for socializing and cooking. We delayed preparing our evening meals so we could climb down to the stony beach at the front of the house to watch the sunsets and amazing changes in light with golden color cast on the nearby cliffs and rocks.
There are plenty of scenic and quiet paths for walks from the house and a few hundred metres is the Russell art gallery where you can enjoy good coffee and treats and then wander around their lovely selection of books, cards and the work of local artists.
Each evening after a day of traveling around, we were very glad to return to the comfort of Swallow Cottage and unwind. Thanks to Diane for your help and welcome to a well loved home.
Thank you for your lovely review. We are so pleased you and your friends from Barcelona enjoyed your stay at our house and the very special Flaggy Shore.
There are so many things to do in the area. As the house is on the beautiful Flaggy shore and 'Wild Atlantic Way', one of Irelands best coastal walk starts right outside the house. The scenery is spectacular. On one side of the house is Galway Bay and the Altantic Ocean just a few metres from your feet. On the other are fields and limestone mountains, ideal to climb and have a picnic with 360 degrees of stunning views. The house is on the beautiful Flaggy Shore with a beach and rock pools which at low tide you can forage for sea life. If you like fishing just walk 10 metres to the sea, or if you prefer just slip into one of the many small coves for a bracing swim. The local villages of Kinvara and Ballyvaughan have markets selling fresh local produce as well as superb bars and restaurants. Galway City across the bay is full of modern shops as well as old cobble streets with Irish music coming from the many bars. The Aran Islands which are in view from the house can be reached by ferry from Doolin (an hour away). The islands are also great for walking and cycling around. The Doolin ferry also goes to the Cliffs of Moher. The extraordinary Ailwee Caves are well worth a visit and just a 10 minute drive away. The house is in the tiny village of Newquay which in my opinion has one of the world's best seafood bar/ restaurant. The nearby Russell Art gallery a few hundred metres from the house has very good teas, coffee, cakes and snacks.
