About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Enjoy breathtaking harbor views and the luscious Coral Bay breeze from this cheerful, friendly cottage located in slower-paced, historic Coral Bay. It's a comfortable, colorful, and spacious home with lush gardens, lots of privacy and an expansive deck. This is not a shared environment; it is completely private with your own house and gardens. Tracey, your wonderful host, prepares the house beautifully and provides you with a key to your own private paradise! Beautiful white sand beaches for sun bathing, swimming and snorkeling are just a few minutes away or you can stroll over to Crabby's, rent a kayak and snorkel gear and paddle over to a secluded beach not accessible by car. (Island Cottage is only a 15 minute drive to northside beaches and a couple of miles to Salt Pond Bay beach.)

In the evening walk down to the harbor and enjoy a romantic dinner at one of the wonderful Coral Bay restaurants or stop for groceries and have a romantic dinner at home on the deck.

The owners are artisans and this shows up in this home. This house has a paved access and great off the street parking. When you inquire and reserve Island Cottage you will work directly with the owner. We make sure your experience is personal and rewarding - all interactions will be with the owner or Tracey our on-island host. Air conditioning in the bedroom.

' I've stayed all around St. John and Island Cottage is by far the best; it offers more for the price than any place I've stayed - hotel, B&B, and other houses. When I first saw Island Cottage on the website, I thought the pictures were amazing; but after staying there; I realized the pictures don't do it justice. It's an inspiration and a work of art.' Joyce Robinson, 2009

As the book full of accolades at Island Cottage attests, your home was beyond any expectation we had. Sarah and I had a magical week there. The house is beautiful and I counted myself lucky indeed to have a week of spectacular sunrises. Local dining was great, the snorkeling was amazing and the sightseeing was wonderful as well. Thank you so much for opening your home to the huddled masses as you do, you have a jewel there. And speaking of jewels...Tracey was one of the warmest people I have ever met. You have a treasure in her. Mary, the gardener, was a cracker, we met on our next to the last day and could have spent the rest of the afternoon talking away. Everyone associated with this time away was wonderful.' Kevin and Sarah, Vermont. January, 2009

'One of the best uses of space, color and art we have seen. Complements the view - not sure which is prettier.. inside or out! We loved it!' Jean and Scott, August, 2008

'We've had a short, but wonderful stay at Island Cottage. Your place far exceeded expectations and your attention to detail most appreciated.' August, 2008 Beth and Dean, Georgia

'This is our honeymoon and we feel we picked the perfect island to enjoy it and couldn't be happier with Island Cottage. We absolutely loved Salt Pond Bay right here in Coral Bay. We've had a magical time here. Your place here is wonderful, and it is very obvious all the care you bestow on it so lovingly. We were touched by your attention to detail; the landscaping shows an artist's patience and loving hand at work. Thank you for sharing this wonderful, magical place with us. Maggie and Eric June 2008

'We were so pleased at how well this place 'works'. The fans and cross ventilation kept it really pleasant in mid-July. It could sound mundane to someone who hasn't taken a look at other driveways hereabouts but this driveway is primo. We really enjoyed the birds and anoles; the bananaquits put on such a show in return for a bowl of sugar water. We had a great vacation!' The Campbells

Cindy, Harry and Tracey -

What can I say but St. John was so much better than imagined. Island Cottage is a place we will NEVER forget... beautiful, peaceful and rich with memories. You have a treasure here!

Dennis and Leslie; October, 2008

'If you seek constant entertainment, pool parties, cocktails served all day, dancing in the club or nightly bar hopping, this is not for you! I have a high stress job and I found the perfect get away, not only St John, but this lovely 1 bedroom home. St John is a quiet, serene, laid back island. I found none of the usual Caribbean attitude here. My family takes a few trips every year and after visiting Hawaii, Aruba, St Kitts, Nevis, Nassau, St Lucia and Puerto Rico, this is, by far, the cleanest, friendliest and most beautiful of all the Caribbean islands. 3/4 of the island is a national park.

Now, for the home. To get to Coral Bay, it is a great drive through the hillsides, passing some of the most beautiful views I have ever seen. The home sits above Coral Bay, and juts out from the side of the hill. The breezes run through the house all day. Three glass sliding doors open in the living room bringing the outside in. The house is brand new, clean, comfortable, convenient and absolutely welcoming. We grilled out on the deck while enjoying some rum drinks, eating breakfast and dinner on the deck. We played dominoes while watching the ships in the bay, watched the sun rise with our morning coffee and felt like we were in a dear friends home on vacation. Anything you could want was here. 2 minutes to the local food market, 3 minutes to a local eatery called Skinny legs (great burgers and beer) and 2 minutes to a local breakfast eatery called the Donkey Diner The most amazing part of this house was its view, night and day. I can not tell you how peaceful it was to sit in the hammock, feeling the breezes from the bay, enjoying a good Belgian beer and looking up at the stars at night. It was intoxicating! The owners have thought of everything. If you need a place to connect with your wife and kids, this is it. No distractions. Pure family time in a magical place.' Scott from Jacksonville, Florida

Why Cindy chose St John

We chose this spot because of it's incredible view; but also because it was close enough to the village to walk to restaurants and shops, yet far enough up the hill for plenty of privacy

Guestbook comments from the owner

As I sit on the deck one last time it's easy to get lost in the memories of a great week here at Island Cottage. We are blessed to have found such a perfect spot to spend our time celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. Harry and Cindy - You have created such a wonderful get-away! I see and appreciate all the special touches and know how much love goes into them. We have a cabin in the North woods of Wisconsin that we too work to maintain and treasure our time there.

In summary - we couldn't have enjoyed the colors, sky, water, flowers, the sounds of music and birds and the warm tropical breezes, food, and rum any more than we did!

Great Little Cottage in a Great Little Spot

  • 5 of 5

Had a great stay at Island Cottage. It is exactly as pictured in the photos. Very well appointed and has everything you will need for a beautiful stay. We would return and we would send our friends as well.

A little piece of heavy. (oh, and you do kinda get used to the roosters)

Old Friends, New Places

  • 5 of 5

When our family thought of a Christmas vacation in a warmer climate I thought of Cindy Sauers' property on St. John. Cindy and I are old friends from her California days and I knew she'd "have my back". Island Cottage at Coral Bay was perfect for Ed and me, our daughter Cristina, and her partner Mike -- who joined us from Boston. We disconnected from the outside world as much as anyone possibly can. Snorkeling in the mornings, resting, reading, playing cards, and sightseeing in the afternoons. Excellent dinners withing walking distance of the house, and local events -- trivia night, open mic, and locally hosted pig roast. If you ask the locals "what's up" they'll often ask you to come along. Island Cottage was very clean, well furnished, and, comfortable for the four of us. We found the pace of Coral Bay to be just what we wanted, and were thrilled by the birds, goats, donkey, iguana, mongoose, frogs, and other wildlife. Christmas came and went without any of the Holiday hoopla. A lovely vacation.

Great location

  • 4 of 5

Easy drive and parking. quiet part of st john. Well stocked with utensils and linen. A lot of mosquitoes so place could use an outside ceiling fan though the electric zapper was helpful. It was very hot in main area so only request would be an a/c unit in main area

Island Cottage, St. John, Coral Bay

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is amazing! If you are interested in St. John definitely stay on the Coral Bay side and consider staying at Island Cottage. It is quiet and private and very well maintained. The photos are accurate and the real thing is even better than the photos. The views from the deck and master are amazing. The a/c is just enough to keep you cool inside and the outdoor shower is perfect after a day of snorkeling.

This cottage is just up the hill from our favorite place for dinner, Aqua Bistro, where Paul will take great care of you. Short drive to Skinny Legs where you can catch sports if you are having stateside withdrawals. No, TV in the cottage, which is fine by me.

We didn't do any cooking, but you could if you were ambitious. I found it more fun to go out to local places, I can cook at home.

Tracey, the onsite manager, is very helpful and responsive. All the locals on this island are amazing and kind and so helpful.

We can't wait to go back! I am already trying to find a time next year!

Amazing view in paradise!

  • 4 of 5

We had a fantastic experience at Island Cottage. The cottage is clean and beautiful and the view was unbelievably amazing. Although not secluded, it was very private. We stayed during the off-season so it was quiet, other than for the sounds of the island: chickens, dogs and donkeys. We could hear the music from the local restaurants in the distance on the weekends - it was like our own private concert out on the deck. The rooms are very spacious and beautifully decorated. It was exactly the retreat we had hoped for. Our island contact person was very attentive and helpful.

Excellent location for a real get away!

  • 5 of 5

Although, the title "Walk to Water " is misleading, we absolutely loved Island Cottage. Coral Bay is a great place to stay on Saint John, and the cottage had everything we needed. Loved the outside shower, the hot tub, the beautiful view of the bay. The double bed took some getting used to, (we have a king) but otherwise. fabulous vacation!

Place was clean and pretty well stocked with items left in the cupboard from other guests. And Pebbles the neighbor dog, was a darling.

Owner's Response: We are so happy that you loved Island Cottage; it has a special place in our hearts too. I hae to say, though, I am completely puzzled by two things - it is only about 1/8th of a mile (Harry says ''about 200 yards'; to beautiful Coral Bay Harbor. We walk to the harbor regularly. Everyone is different about their ability to walk, but usually anything less than 1/2 mile is not misleading at all. Also, the bed is a Queen; not a Double. Best to you and I hope we will see you at Island Cottage again. Cindy
