Here's what some of our guests have had to say:

Hi Jan,

We've just returned from your house in Asheville......How wonderful!!! The house was great, the firepit was so enjoyable, but without a doubt,,,,,the most wonderful part of the property was the guest house! Our family enjoyed the pool table, and gas logs, but the porch was absolutely fantastic! How great to sit out on the porch and listen to the creek with our family. The time we spent was unforgettable. Our parents are getting a little older, and our family time is limited, and with part of us in S.C, and part of us in Kentucky we seldom have time when all of us are together,,,,, We will treasure this time for many years to come.

This was such a blessing!

Thanks again...

More Comments...: 'This has been a great family vacation! We hiked almost everyday...the most beautiful and fun for the kids was hiking 'Graveyard Trail'. We visited the N.C. Arboretum, Black Mountain, Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, The Grove Park Inn...just to name a few! Had dinner at the Pisgah Inn - it was good, but really enjoyed cooking steaks here on the grill. We had a campfire each night and read ghost stories from a book we left for you to enjoy! We'll be back!' The Wilkens Family

About Jan Stephenson

Keith and Jan have called Central Florida 'home' since 1984, where we established a custom sign manufacturing business. Designing and creating signs has been a great way to use our God-given talents and also has lead us down the road to renovating and restoring houses through the years..

Jan Stephenson purchased this house in 1992

Why Jan Stephenson chose Asheville Area

We absolutely fell in love with this property and the whole area in the Pisgah National Forest when first laying eyes on it! There are 8 homes on a total of 77 acres that were notched out of the Forest back in 1930's and little by little most of these homes were constructed by Bob Dowtin who built our house in 1952.

Home renovations and decorating has been our joy and given us much satisfaction, so it was a natural fit for us to find such a unique opportunity and begin a renovating process again. Our latest project completed was tearing down an old garage and building a wonderful gameroom/guesthouse (Creekside finished in 2007) re-using the beautiful rough-sawn oak boards to make kitchen cabinets and a dining table for the new structure!

We began sharing this amazing property with friends and family many years ago and it only gets to be more fun with each ensuing year (thanks to VRBO and HomeAway)! Words cannot begin to say how much God has blessed us with this place and what a privilege it is to 'meet' all the new travelers who contact us to stay here in our 'little piece of heaven'!

What makes this house unique

2 beautiful mountainside acres with oaks, ironwoods, poplars and hemlocks towering over the wild rhododendron, mountain laurel and creek.

Though we have a few neighboring homes, none are in view of our property.

Privacy and serenity are key.

Fire pit down by the creek.

Dear Jan and Keith,

Thanks so much for sharing your gorgeous place with us. You did a fantastic job with Creekside! And the area is gorgeous. We had a fabulous day hiking Mt Pisgah and seeing a few of the waterfalls of Transylvania County. And the kids enjoyed Sliding Rock, though I didn't fare so well there! : )

Also had a great day at the Biltmore, visited Cherokee, and had time to explore Asheville. Loved Malaprops!

And your beautiful home was the perfect way to start and end each day. From a relaxing breakfast next to the creek, with hummingbirds all around us, to an evening around the fire, we will never forget it.

All in all a fantastic trip. One we plan to repeat for sure!

Thanks again,

Home Sweet Home

  • 5 of 5

This is our third visit to Keith and Jan's lovely place. We visited in 2010 and again in 2011. Each time we stayed for four weeks, so when we arrived in 2016 we immediately felt at home. The place is well maintained and even has new flat screen TVs.

We enjoyed sitting on the screened in porch with coffee and a good book, cooking with friends, and relaxing in Mountain High (we called this our "sleeping house").

We did some of the local hikes, one starting ½ mile down highway 151 and one starting ½ mile up highway 151. We also hiked Mt. Pisgah, Catawba Falls, Pink Buds, Living Waterfalls, and Looking Glass Falls.

We went to Canton for dinner at the Southern Porch and Friday night Pickin in the Park. We visited West Asheville several times for great meals at Nine Mile, Westville Pub, Isis Theater, and the WALK. We went to Shindig and lots of restaurants in Asheville. We also tried many of the local restaurants and really enjoyed: Botanas and Beer, Rejavanation, Country Pride (at the TA Truck Stop) and Four Brother Pizza and Artisan Café both in Enka.

There is a lot to do from this wonderful location and it is a great place to return to when the day is done.

Wonderful family together time

  • 4 of 5

An Asheville wedding brought our family of ten to this lovely home. All were immediately drawn to the creek hunting salamanders & following the beautiful butterflies. We adults enjoyed sitting around the pit while the young ones played. Ten year old cousins loved the Bunny Hutch room & wrote a song about their stay,; we enjoyed meals on the screened porch & guitar playing in the evenings. Grandpa, dads & teens enjoyed many evenings at the pool table after days tubing the French Broad & discovering the many waterfalls in Dupont state park. My husband fished & we drove the BRP seeing another waterfall & shopping the Craft store. We enjoyed shopping in Asheville & delicious meals at 67 Biltmore, White Duck Tacos & Chestnut. Each evening we played games & worked on a puzzle before falling into the comfy beds and dreaming of our next days' adventures. Thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us, we will cherish the memories created there. We'll certainly recommend this property to family & friends, a little off the beaten track but worth the drive .

Great Mountain Getaway!

  • 4 of 5

Comfortable house with great amenities! We loved the large backyard, fire pit in the front yard, and especially the roomy screened in porch overlooking the brook! Easy drive from Asheville, although with spotty GPS near the cottage it was a little difficult to find the place at night. Most of the bedrooms are in the main house, so you'll probably spend most of your time in Creekside which has a large open area, kitchen, pool table, and wonderful screened in porch. The reservation process was a bit more difficult then I would have liked, but overall it was a wonderful trip!

Fantastic Mountain House

  • 5 of 5

This rental property met and exceeded all of our expectations. It is a fantastic mix of secluded mountain living with Asheville still being easily accessible (25 minute cab ride to the heart of downtown). There is a very nice Ingles located close by to stock up on food and drink. The house itself couldn't have been better. There are plenty of comfortable beds and two full kitchens. We spent most of our time in the game house playing pool and out on the screened in porch. Outdoors they have a horseshoe pit, hot tub and fire pit which we unfortunately didn't have time to use. You don't have to worry about neighbors, there are no other houses visible from the property and we only saw one car drive by the whole weekend. Thanks again Jan and Keith, we had a blast and can't wait to come back in the future!
