Perfect and cozy

  • 5 of 5

My one vacation this summer was to Terry's cottage and it was a perfect getaway. My boyfriend and I stayed for 3 nights and it was so relaxing and just what we needed. Just steps away (literally) from the lake where we kayaked and swam, and a short drive into town. We ate breakfast on the screened in porch every morning and at night we rented movies from the nearby Redbox and did one of the puzzles that is on the bookcase.

So nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of your every day life and allow yourself to enjoy peace and quiet. We would absolutely recommend this cottage as a vacation spot, it was clean, simple and cozy. Oh and while you're there, be sure to eat at Xicohtencatl mexican restaurant- it's on my list of top 5 restaurants ever!

Cozy Cottage For a Great Berkshires Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 loved our stay at this cottage - where we also stayed for a week in December. The location is very convenient for skiing at Butternut. The cottage includes everything a family might need: kitchen basics, washer/dryer, extra linens, etc. The gas fireplace is excellent and "hit the spot." The cottage is very comfortable with an overall charming and lovely feel. A great value in the Berkshires!

Couldn't ask for more

  • 5 of 5

The property is rustic but the amenities include all that is needed for a perfect vacation. We found the cabin in excellent condition and we were able to use the provided canoe to enjoy the lake. Looking forward to returning.

This cottage is quaint and comfortable!

  • 4 of 5

This cottage definitely met expectations! The gas fireplace was also a cozy nice tough. The reclining chairs were also incredibly relaxing. The property is a very brief walk to a gorgeous lake and not a long drive from surrounding towns. Terry is very responsive and kind - i'd recommend this place to anyone.

Delightful Escape During Heat Wave

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was clean and well appointed with almost anything needed for basic cooking. We really appreciated the air conditioner during the heat wave. With a 14-year-old dog who could not take off her fur coat, it was very helpful to us all.

Terry was very responsive the couple times we called with questions. He does not live nearby but you might not notice because he is so attentive.

While the cabin does not have a lake view, the short walk there introduced us to several of the locals who were all friendly and offered valuable suggestions for places to go in Great Barrington.

We enjoyed a lovely canoe ride on the lake with our dog, and got some fishing in. When it was too warm to go for a hike on one of the many trails withing a short driving distance, we chilled out in the cabin with books or a game of scrabble on my tablet. The internet connection is very helpful. Cell phones do not work there but the landline is available.

The easy drive to Great Barrington introduced us to a happening little city. There are so many art shows and plays going on we almost regretted bringing our dog because we did not want to leave her in the cabin if there was a thunderstorm and we could not leave her in the Outback in the heat. We were able to bring her to the Farmer's Market, which was fun. They have music and it is a great festival atmosphere.

South of the cabin, on the way to one of our hikes, we discovered the New Boston Tavern at the intersection of Rt 57 and Rt 8. We asked the proprietor if we could sit outside on the patio with our dog and she invited all of us in to the historic building. We ate yummy food in the authentic colonial tavern and she brought us a water bowl for the pooch. I wanted to go back later for the recipe because she gave our dog homemade dog biscuits that finally got our dog to eat in the heat. Fabulous! She gave us several free and then we bought some.

When a cool front came in with some rain, we did eat out without the dog at a really nice Mexican place, Xicohtencatl. There seemed to be many authentic dishes on the menu, not Tex-Mex.

We really enjoyed our introduction to the Berkshire's and look forward to staying at Terry's cabin this fall.
