Bedrooms 1
Space sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 4 - 7 nights

About the property

Amazing setting at water's edge, 2nd floor, 1 Q Bedroom + Q Sofa bed Sleeps 2-4

Osprey's Nest provides you with peace and quiet and is a perfect home-base for exploring Mid-Coast Maine. Relax and enjoy the views, watch the lobster boats and recreational boating, and coastal wildlife including seals, eagles and water birds. Launch your kayak directly from our yard. We have a number of islands that are fun for kayakers to explore, and the our waters are generally calm and perfect for kayaking.

Osprey's Nest is a spacious 2nd floor "home away from home" with a 10 by 25-foot deck right at the water's edge looking toward Hopkins Island and Dingley Cove and the picturesque Maine coast. Watch the tides come and go over the rocks below you. Bright and sunny....enjoy the beautiful sunrises; summer evenings are lazy and long and can be enjoyed from the deck or sofa.

You enter into the kitchen and a generous eating area. There is a nice sized bathroom with stall shower. The bedroom has a quality queen-size bed. The spacious living room has a queen-size sleeper (pull-out) sofa and two comfortable lounge chairs.

Walk into Cundy's Harbor and buy your lobsters at Watson's General Store, which has been featured on TV, and have your dinner in the pot in minutes. Cundy's Harbor is a little gem. It is an unspoiled active fishing harbor and village. From late May to mid-september you can eat at the restaurant (byob) on the wharf. They offer all sorts of fish dinners/lunches, ice cream, etc. And there is a cute gift shop and general store to explore. Public boat ramp is two blocks away.

We are located right between the Portland/Casco Bay area just to our south and the Midcoast Maine area just to our north. Offers tons of day trip opportunities. Bath, Boothbay, Camden, Wiscassett, Portland, Freeport, etc, etc. Museums, hiking, beaches, antiquing, shopping, eating, exploring villages and seacoast.

PLEASE NOTE: We have optional fees for use of our sheets and towels if you would prefer not to bring your own, and we offer post-stay cleaning if you would rather not do the cleaning as described in our Rental Agreement. (Renters are asked to leave Osprey's Nest as clean as they found it unless they pay the cleaning fee.) During your inquiry, please let us know if you are interested in the linens or cleaning option; if not, we can remove those fees from the Quote.

VISITOR REVIEWS - We have lots of visitor reviews on our web site. Go to OWNER INFORMATION below and 'Links to More Information' near the bottom of this VRBO information.

Sweet sweet haven

  • 5 of 5

If you love nature and everything it offers, plus the best people around, this abode is the place to visit. We enjoyed the Giant Stairs and Potts Point, watched eagles, herons, seals, meteor showers, rock formations and so much more. We stayed in osprey's nest with above deck for excellent view. The cottage was charming and well stocked from books and binoculars to wonderful decor. We especially enjoyed peninsula map, original artwork, the deck and overall comfort.

Vacationers who stayed on lower portion of cottage were wonderful people who shared both good conversation and showed us the the art of gathering periwinkles and how to prepare them. Also went on a lobster boat excursion with Captain Jay and learned about the lobster trapping industry along with the anatomy and biology of the lobster itself. We most definitely would come back if the opportunity should ever arise ! Cynthia Ivy

Really lovely, peaceful spot

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a peaceful, very comfortable pied-a-terre with a fantastic view over the water, stay at Osprey's Nest. This small first floor apartment is in a lived-in residential neighborhood, but at the quiet end of a cul-de-sac -- sitting on the porch, you'll feel like you're on a private estate. The apartment is perfect in size for two people, but might feel crowded with four. The facilities (kitchen, bathroom, etc) are excellent and kept in good condition.

Very helpful service from the owner, all by email.

Eat fantastic seafood at Holbrook's in Cundy's Harbor. There are plenty of other choices on the peninsula and in and around Brunswick.

We would definitely rent here again!

Perfect family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful setting! If you like to catch a gorgeous sunrise and sunset, this is the place to go! We rented all three places and had an awesome family vacation. We could cook right there or travel to restaurants close by. Purchasing local and fresh seafood was a simple task. Traveling to local beaches is also an easy task - and rewarding for both children and adults. We will be back for sure!

Cute place with a superb view!

  • 3 of 5

The location was the nicest part of this place. It is cute but dated, decorated nicely but not quite up to our standards. There was a closet that smelled of mold, where the beach chairs are, so we couldn't use them. The shower was the smallest we have ever seen and we are smaller than average size. Don't drop your soap! There is no AC or W/D, my fault for not clarifying this up front. Luckily, we did not need AC but could have used the W/D. The drive in from the main road was depressing as you will pass several run-down shacks. All in all, we made the best of it and ultimately enjoyed our 5 day stay.

Owner's Response: We are pleased these visitors ultimately enjoyed their stay and we certainly appreciate their feedback. We want to meet expectations. Ours is a genuine coastal Maine setting, in an active fishing/lobstering village....Cundy's Harbor.

Tranquility plus!!

  • 5 of 5

We tend to seek out low-key, non-touristy destinations when we venture away from our bustling DC-area, and Osprey's Nest in Cundy's Harbor more than met our goals. While it's an easy drive to places like Portland and Boothbay Harbor if you feel more action beckoning, Cundy's Harbor is meant for the meandering stroll or kayak outing and the deck at the Osprey's Nest is the perfect perch for watching the tide's ebb and flow, enjoying sunrises or sunsets, or just losing yourself in a good book. The only sounds heard during our week were that of gulls, lobster boats, and the gentle lapping of the water. We walked a block down a dirt path to pick lobsters from the local boat's afternoon arrival, then strolled back to our cottage to steam them in the lobster pot provided. YUM! It doesn't get much better or more affordable! We strolled about a mile to the small, well-stocked village library, with its bright cheerful interior and beautiful backyard water view. We listened to locals sharing stories in Watson's General Store (run by the same family since 1856!) and received very helpful advice on off-the-beaten-path places to explore.

We shared homemade treats with a delightful family renting the cottage next door and there was no one in the unit below us until the owners - also delightful - arrived at the end of the week. We lucked out with good weather and no loud music or voices nearby. We loved visiting Bailey Island and Harpswell, again, just poking into nooks and crannies and chatting with locals. Amazing geological formations along the Giant's Stairs path and at the end of the island at Land's End. A truly lovely, welcoming way of life found on our jaunts! Be sure to try the lobster salad at Morse's Cribstone Grill at the bridge on Bailey Island and morning munchies at the Schoolhouse Cafe! Both were hits. And don't overlook the wonderful grounds of Bowdoin College campus in nearby Brunswick...the campus itself is gorgeous, but the live theater, museum on Admiral Peary's arctic exploration and one on Civil War General Joshua Chamberlain (former president of the college) were also treats.
