Lovely, peaceful spot

  • 4 of 5

This is a very peaceful villa. The villa is comfortable and the pool is delightful. The owners are very good at responding to emails and special requests. For example, we felt we needed some more shade around the pool and within a few hours of asking an extra pool-side umbrella was delivered to the door. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation spot with a beautiful view, this is the place for you.

a let down

  • 1 of 5

having stayed in 50+ villas this was only the second we disliked. Poorly equipped, just one tea mug! not a single egg cup. no instructions on how to use anything. the iron leaked water (a real hazard) .the drive from the road would have put the Land Rover test ground to shame. it was not possible to eat outside as there were hundreds of wasps. then the lack of any shade untill 4.30 was a real no shower dribbled water, the other was not able to be fixed on the wall (this i repaired with a tube of glue) you only get local tv. so take lots of books. if none of the above worries you then book it, the air is fresh up there.

Owner's Response: Guests of all ages are welcomed personally on arrival by the owner Encarne & this couple of 71 and 73 years of age were no exception. During their stay of 9 nights these guests made no contact with Encarne, Ant or Carl ( available in person, by phone or online) to say they were unhappy about anything at the villa. Our customer service is high but we cannot put right any shortfalls if we only receive a complaint via a very disappointing review after the guests have left. Our comments: There were 3 mugs as well as 6 English tea cup & saucer sets, 8 coffee cups and over 30 assorted glasses. No eggcups. Apologies, there are now 6. Unbeknown to Encarne the iron was broken. Apologies. A new one now provided within one hour. There are 3 sunshades & bases! Both showers work perfectly. Land Rover drivers need not get excited; the owners both own VW Golfs and drive to the villa all year. A TV, music system, DVD and WiFi is provided. Yes, there is fresh air in the countryside! This review is at best unfair and unbalanced & at worse not factual. Villa is as described & reviewed by all other guests. May not be suitable for Victor Meldrew.

Stunning scenery, quiet and very comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Seven of us stayed for two weeks at this stunning little jewel in the mountains. We ranged from

age 14 to 50 and we all thought the place was amazing. The scenery around about the Villa is breathtaking and it's a perfect place to relax and unwind. We loved it so much that we are intending to go again next year. We were a 5 minute drive to the wee village of Comares where there's a little shop for the essentials and in Los Ventorros there are 2 little restaurants that are quite different with their food but equally as good as each other. Velez- Malaga is about a 30 minute drive away which is certainly not a weary drive as again the countryside is stunning and there is always something new to see no matter how often the road is travelled! You can find all your larger shopping outlets and lots of restaurant etc in Velez- Malaga and Torre del Mar (which merge into each other) as well as the beach. We love the rural setting but if you want something a bit more lively then this wouldn't be for you. The swimming pool was a real asset and I'm not sure what we'd have done without it as it was extremely hot at times so it was perfect for colling off and having a bit of fun! The only downside which isn't really a problem when you get used to them is the mountain roads...definitely not for the faint hearted!! An amazingly stunning place....well worth a visit

Owner's Response: A well written & informative review that should be helpful for potential visitors considering a holiday at Villa La Cruz. I am pleased that the 2 bar/restaurants in Los Ventorros, walking distance from the villa, were appreciated. Handy for tapas, lunches and serving dinner until late. Thanks for taking the time to write Norman and we hope you will visit again.

Very enjoyable return visit

  • 5 of 5

Two years ago we said we would be back, and so we did this June. Everything I said in my review back in 2014 remains true and can recommend Villa La Cruz without hesitation. Extensive stretches of the higher mountain roads appear to have been resurfaced within the last 2 years which makes for an even more pleasant drive on and off the hills for day trips. We were fortunate to be here for Noche de San Juan and joined in the fun on the beach at Torre del Mar. We also made return visits to Granada, Seville, Cordoba and Ronda which are easily reached using the free-flowing motorways - in 2 weeks we did not see a single traffic cone. This year we spent more time relaxing around the pool feeling very much at home. I am sure we will be back yet again.

Great location, everything you could wish for.

  • 5 of 5

We spent a long time researching rental properties in Andalucia for a family holiday and this one delivered in every respect. Great location, well equiped, clean and comfortable. Very friendly people. We alternated quiet days at the villa (and pool) with trips to Granada, Cordoba, Sevilla, Ronda, Nerja (superb caves - makes Cheddar Gorge look like a rabbit warren), Garganta del Chorro and even a day trip to Tangier organised via a travel agent in Torre Del Mar. No hesitation to recommend this villa to anybody and we hope to return at some point in the future.

Owner's Response: A number of our guests have used villa La Cruz as a base for exploring Andalucia and Douglas and his party were no exception. Whether you want a "chill out by the pool " holiday or plan to go traveling around Southern Spain, La Cruz is a comfortable place to stay. Love the comment re Nerja caves! Thanks, Ant & Carl

We had a wonderful Stay

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely villa a lot. Everything at the villa is as advertised, and it is in a very private location, close enough to town but down a drive-way that takes you off the road so that you feel quite alone when you are here. As it was winter we did not swim, but we really enjoyed sitting on the pool terrace and on the sunny days the temperatures rose up to 20 degrees and we even got a bit of a sun tan! The kids loved playing badminton and exploring the immediate vicinity. We liked both the local villages Comares and Los Ventorros for tapas and other needs. Comares itself is a pretty hilltop town with a small, but well stocked grocery store where we were able to buy all our supplies. We enjoyed walking in the area and there are a number of well marked and interesting "Ruta's" to explore. We were able to leave the villa to visit Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada on overnight trips as all were within reach by car. Malaga is quite close and is reached under an hour and has many interesting things to explore as well. Our hosts Loli and Juan-Miguel were vey welcoming and helpful, and extremely nice. They provided a welcome pack to get us started, and they stopped by a few times to make sure everything was okay - one day they brought us a big bag of local oranges from Juan-Miguel's family orchard as they were in season! We enjoyed fresh orange juice by the pool fro the next few days. The manager of the property is Carl, and he handles all the communications which is great as we do speak much Spanish. Carl was very prompt in his replies and helped answer all of our question before arrival and after. We are very glad we stayed here and would recommend this villa to any other family as a pleasant place to stay.

Owner's Response: This is the first time we have let the villa for a month in Winter and we are so pleased that this family enjoyed their experience. The location is ideal for soaking up some sunshine early in the year as the villa and terrace benefit from the sunshine all day. Country walks are plenty although in Summer most guests only go on foot to the local village, Los Ventorros and its 2 welcoming bar/restaurants! Spring & Autumn are perfect for enjoying the longer marked walks around Comares as this family did. Plenty of routes for Mountain bikes also. We hope to see you again...Carl
