About Jane Asher

We are a small family business that is dedicated to providing high quality boating holidays and boat cruises on the River Thames. Because we are a small buisness, we take personal attention to detail and have high standards in all our boats. Boat gema is the newest addition to our fleet. We began with one boat, 'Ginetta' 5 years ago and since then have expanded our fleet with Boat Geanna arriving in 2011. Geanna was our first houseboat and features in the Channel 4 TV programme 'Four In A Bed, ' a competition between bed and breakfast owners as to who has the best accommodation, which we are proud to be the winners. A year later in 2013 Boat Gina was added to the fleet as a self drive narrowboat holiday. This proved to be really popular and so we are now introducing Boat Gema, a bigger version of Gina but the sisterboat.

Jane Asher purchased this boat in 2014

Why Jane Asher chose South Oxfordshire

People always ask us: 'How did you come up with the names: Ginetta, geanna, Gina and Gema?' Our first boat Ginetta was a newbuild. While the boat builders were building her, we desparately tried to come up with a name for the boat. Everyone in the family, my daughter and 2 sons all 'chipped' in but we simply couldn't come up with a name we all liked. It was by chance that we were watching on TV 'Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares' and during the show, Mr Ramsey exclaimed (in his typical manner)' If it wasn't for the chef Ginetta, the restaurant would be in chaos.' We all immediately loved the name 'Ginetta' and that was it. The other boats were easy to name as we looked up similar italian girls names on the internet: Geanna, Gina and Gema. We are running out of Italian girls names begining with 'G' though so maybe we'll stop with Gema!

What makes this boat unique

Boat Gema is a real trooper. She is modern but still retains the quint essential English charm of a narrowboat. Her interior is finished to a high standard and we are sure you'll love her. We get to know our guests and many come back annually to explore different partys of the Thames or revisit favourite places. The boat offers charm but is still practical with wifi, TV /DVD and all the creature comforts of home, but on a boat.

Our boat is a luxury 4 star Canal narrowboat, fitted to an exceptionally high standard, an ideal narrowboat holiday for families or groups of friends holidaying together. Pets are welcome too. The boat is a self drive holiday or can be used as a base moored in Henley-on-Thames. Tuition is provided by a qualified instructor prior to you taking the boat out so that you are happy and confident in driving the boat and can enjoy a stress free holiday. A narrowboat holiday gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace the many delights the River Thames and English countryside have to offer, whether it's Wallingford, Abingdon, Henley or Windsor, the choice is entirely yours.

There is nothing quite like waking up to the sounds of wildlife and seeing herons, swans and other birds. All stress is forgotten as you enjoy the freedom of cruising at your own pace, choosing where you will moor up for the night and which pubs you'll visit along the way.

Visit the famous Henley Royal Regatta in July /June or why not cruise to Windsor and visit Windsor Castle?

The annual 80's rewind Music festival in Henley is always popular and you can be moored within easy walking distance to the festival.

The River Rowing Museum in Henley provides interest for all the family. The parks on the banks of the Thames at Henley provide ample space for children to play, family picnics or dog walking. All amenities are within walking distance.

For those of you wanting to try something a bit different, why not . take a short drive and visit the local winery or Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey) or the Harry Potter Studios film set. You can moor up in Reading and walk to Reading train station where there are frequent trains to London(28 minute train journey). The choice is yours.

For the more adventurous who really want to improve their boat handling skills, why not combine your holiday with the Inland waterways Helmsman Course which is a one day course you can take on the boat during your holiday?

The holiday is suitable for all age groups and no previous boating experience is necessary as we provide 2 hours tuition. This includes going through a Thames Lock with am isntructor (all locks are manned with lock keepers who are happy to assist) and mooring up and turning the boat around. We want you to be confident on the water so that you can then enjoy a stress free holiday.
